  • Rockies' Sterlin Thompson: Sitting after three straight starts

Thompson is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Athletics.

The left-handed-hitting Thompson will retreat to the bench while the Athletics send southpaw Jeffrey Springs to the hill for the series finale. Thompson started in each of Colorado's last three games and went just 1-for-10 with six strikeouts.

  • Jake McCarthy CF | COL

Rockies' Jake McCarthy: Remaining on bench Sunday

McCarthy (illness) is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Athletics.

It's the fifth straight game out of the lineup for McCarthy, who was scratched Wednesday due to an illness. The 28-year-old may not have been in lineup Sunday regardless, with lefty Jeffrey Springs on the mound for the A's. McCarthy entered as a pinch runner and was caught stealing in Saturday's contest, so he should be back in the lineup soon.

  • Jimmy Crooks C | STL

    Cardinals' Jimmy Crooks: Idle Sunday

Crooks is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Twins.

Crooks will be held out of the lineup for a second straight day, with Ivan Herrera and Pedro Pages both drawing starts behind the plate in his absence. Since being called up from Triple-A Memphis on May 29, Crooks has gone 5-for-25 (.200) with one home run, four RBI and two runs.

  • Masyn Winn SS | STL

Cardinals' Masyn Winn: Taking seat Sunday

Winn is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Twins.

Rookie JJ Wetherholt will slide over from his usual spot at second base to make his first MLB start at shortstop. Winn had started the last five games, going 3-for-20 with a double, a stolen base, two walks, four runs and two RBI during that stretch.

  • Luis Rengifo 3B | SD

Brewers' Luis Rengifo: Losing out on playing time

Rengifo will start at third base and bat fifth in Sunday's game against the Phillies.

Though he'll be part of the starting nine Sunday while southpaw Cristopher Sanchez toes the rubber for Philadelphia, Rengifo was out of the lineup the previous three games when Milwaukee faced right-handed starters or bulk relievers. Rengifo has gone just 4-for-24 (.167 average) over his last nine games and appears to have faded into a utility role, with the Brewers having prioritized Joey Ortiz and David Hamilton ahead of him on the left side of the infield.

  • Joseph Ortiz SS | MIL

Brewers' Joey Ortiz: Playing time trending up

Ortiz will start at shortstop and bat eighth in Sunday's game against the Phillies.

Ortiz will stick in the starting nine for the seventh time in eight games while he's maintained a serviceable .280/.357/.400 slash line thus far in June. With Ortiz's playing time on the upswing, Luis Rengifo has been the odd man out on the left side of the infield.

  • Sal Frelick RF | MIL

Brewers' Sal Frelick: Idle against southpaw

Frelick is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Phillies.

Frelick will be joined on the bench by fellow left-handed hitters Brice Turang, Jake Bauers and Christian Yelich while the Brewers go with a right-handed-heavy lineup to counter Phillies lefty Cristopher Sanchez. Blake Perkins will step in for Frelick in right field and will bat seventh.

  • Jarlin Susana SP | WAS

Nationals' Jarlin Susana: Throws from mound

Susana threw from a mound this week for the first time since undergoing lat surgery last September, Jessica Camerato of MLB.com reports.

The Nationals' pitching prospect still has a long way to go in his recovery, however. Susana will continuing his throwing progression at the team's spring training complex in Florida, and as yet there's no target date for him to return to game action.

  • Brewers' Christian Yelich: Sitting against tough southpaw

Yelich is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Phillies.

Yelich will be joined on the bench by fellow left-handed hitters Brice Turang, Jake Bauers and Sal Frelick while the Brewers go with a right-handed-heavy lineup to counter Phillies lefty Cristopher Sanchez. William Contreras will serve as the Brewers' designated hitter in place of Yelich.

  • Jake Bauers 1B | MIL

Brewers' Jake Bauers: Idle against lefty

Bauers is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Phillies.

After starting in each of the last five games, the left-handed hitter will take a seat while the Phillies send southpaw Cristopher Sanchez to the rubber. Andrew Vaughn will get the starting nod at first base in place of Bauers and bat second.
