Cubs' Ethan Conrad: Moving up to High-A
Conrad was promoted to High-A South Bend on Sunday, Chase Ford of MiLB Central reports.
Conrad will move up a level in the Cubs' minor-league system after batting .245 with four home runs, 21 RBI and 14 runs scored over 110 at-bats in 29 contests with Single-A Myrtle Beach. The 22-year-old is considered to be one of Chicago's top overall prospects, and he will now have a chance to prove himself at a higher level before the end of the 2026 campaign.

Cubs' Miguel Amaya: Pops homer in loss
Amaya went 1-for-3 with a solo home run and a walk in Sunday's 11-4 loss to the Cardinals.
Amaya has homered twice over his last four games, going 4-for-14 in that span. The catcher has started three of the Cubs' last four contests as he starts to take a chunk out of Carson Kelly's playing time versus right-handed pitchers. On the year, Amaya is batting .241 with a .726 OPS, five homers, 22 RBI, 30 runs scored and nine doubles over 203 plate appearances.

Cubs' Pete Crow-Armstrong: Goes yard Sunday
Crow-Armstrong went 1-for-5 with a two-run home run in Sunday's 11-4 loss to the Cardinals.
Crow-Armstrong has gone just 5-for-39 (.128) over his last nine contests, adding a 5:15 BB:K in that span. He has also supplied two homers and six RBI. The outfielder is well on his way to a second straight 30-30 year -- he's now at 28 homers and 30 steals while adding a .276 average, .907 OPS, 75 RBI, 87 runs scored, 24 doubles and seven triples over 125 contests.

Cubs' Edward Cabrera: Limited by blister during start
Cabrera was dealing with a blister on his right middle finger during Sunday's start against the Cardinals, Jesse Rogers of ESPN.com reports.
Cabrera made his return to the major-league rotation Sunday after missing nearly two months with a left hamstring strain. The right-hander struggled out of the gates, surrendering a two-run homer to Alec Burleson in the first inning, and the rest of his outing followed suit. In total, Cabrera pitched 3.2 innings, allowing seven runs on six hits and three walks while striking out just two batters. The 28-year-old now owns an inflated 5.68 ERA and 1.45 WHIP with 67 strikeouts over 76 innings in 15 starts with the Cubs this season. Following Sunday's contest, manager Craig Counsell was non-committal on if Cabrera would get another turn in the rotation, or if he may be moved to the bullpen.

Cubs' Dansby Swanson: Set for IL stint with oblique injury
Swanson (oblique) is set be placed on the injured list, Taylor McGregor of Marquee Sports Network reports.
Swanson was removed from Sunday's 11-4 loss to St. Louis in the bottom of the third inning after torquing the left side of his body on a first-pitch swing in his only at-bat of the day. The severity of the oblique injury is currently unknown, and Swanson will undergo an MRI on Monday. The 32-year-old is likely looking at a lengthy absence, and in his absence, Nico Hoerner will likely slide over to shortstop for the time being.

Cubs' Dansby Swanson: Exits with side injury
Swanson was removed from Sunday's game against the Cardinals due to left side discomfort reports.
Swanson left the game without making an official plate appearance, as he was lifted during his first trip to the dish of the afternoon in the bottom of the third inning after he was in pain following a swing. The Cubs will likely send Swanson in for further testing and potentially an MRI before determining his availability for the start of their three-game series with the White Sox on Monday. If Swanson needs to miss time, Nico Hoerner would likely slide over from second base and take over as the Cubs' primary shortstop.

Cubs' Dansby Swanson: Leaves game early Sunday
Swanson was removed from Sunday's game against the Cardinals midway through his first at-bat in the bottom of the third inning due to an apparent injury, Andy Martinez of Marquee Sports Network reports.
Following his first swing of the afternoon, Swanson immediately felt discomfort and left the game with a trainer by his side. James Triantos came on to pinch hit for Swanson and will likely cover second base for the remainder of the contest while Nico Hoerner shifts over to Swanson's spot in the field at shortstop. The Cubs should provide official word on his injury later in the day.

Cubs' Miguel Amaya: Earning more opportunities vs. RHPs
Amaya will start at catcher and bat ninth in Sunday's game against the Cardinals.
Amaya will crack the lineup for the third time in four games, with each of those starts coming against right-handed pitching. He's produced a .720 OPS and 105 wRC+ in 138 plate appearances versus righties this season, putting him well ahead of what fellow backstop Carson Kelly (.594 OPS, 72 wRC+ in 211 plate appearances) has done in that split.

Cubs' Michael Busch: Sitting out Sunday
Busch is absent from the Cubs' lineup against the Cardinals on Sunday.
Busch will ride the bench for Sunday's rubber match with St. Louis despite recording at least one hit in seven of his last eight games. Pedro Ramirez will man first base and bat sixth for the Cubs.

Cubs' David Peterson: Shifting to bullpen role
The Cubs announced that Peterson will be moved to the bullpen after Edward Cabrera (hamstring) was reinstated from the 15-day injured list Sunday, Patrick Mooney of The Athletic reports.
Rather than shifting to a six-man rotation, manager Craig Counsell will send Peterson to the bullpen to provide the club with a multi-inning arm to replace Javier Assad, who was optioned to Triple-A Iowa on Sunday. After a disastrous run with the Mets to begin the season, Peterson had pitched more credibly since being acquired by the Cubs in late June. Over eight starts with Chicago, Peterson has gone 4-1 with a 4.19 ERA, 1.37 WHIP and 31:16 K:BB across 43 innings.

Cubs' Carson Kelly: Taking seat Sunday
Kelly is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Cardinals.
Kelly will hit the bench for a second consecutive game and for the third time in the last four contests. He appears to be moving into more of a timeshare at catcher with Miguel Amaya, who will receive another turn behind the plate Sunday.

Cubs' Javier Assad: Dispatched to Triple-A
The Cubs optioned Assad to Triple-A Iowa on Sunday, Jesse Rogers of ESPN.com reports.
Assad lost his spot in the rotation in the aftermath of the Aug. 3 trade deadline and shifted to the bullpen, and he'll now end up losing his spot on the roster entirely after the Cubs reinstated Edward Cabrera (hamstring) from the 15-day injured list Sunday. Assad is expected to get stretched back out at Triple-A to offer insurance in case injuries test the big club's starting depth down the stretch.

Cubs' Edward Cabrera: Activated ahead of start
The Cubs reinstated Cabrera (hamstring) from the 15-day injured list ahead of his scheduled start Sunday versus the Cardinals at Wrigley Field, Jesse Rogers of ESPN.com reports.
Chicago optioned right-hander Javier Assad to Triple-A in a corresponding move. Cabrera will be making his first appearance since June 23 after recovering from a left hamstring strain, and the right-hander was sharp during a three-start rehab assignment, firing five no-hit innings for Double-A Knoxville on Tuesday. He built up to 64 pitches in that outing and will likely have a light workload restriction in place Sunday.

Cubs' Michael Conforto: Smacks 10th home run Saturday
Conforto went 1-for-2 with a three-run home run in Saturday's 8-4 loss to the Cardinals.
Conforto took St. Louis starter Michael McGreevy deep in the second inning with two runners on, giving him 10 long balls and 30 RBI through 81 games this season. The veteran outfielder is still seeing occasional playing time against right-handed pitching, but Chicago's addition of Tyrone Taylor before the trade deadline has added more depth to the outfield, which has cut into Conforto's role. He'll have reduced fantasy appeal unless there's an injury that pushes him into the lineup more regularly.

Cubs' Matthew Boyd: On wrong end of history Saturday
Boyd (8-2) took the loss Saturday as the Cubs fell 8-4 to the Cardinals, coughing up seven runs on five hits -- including four home runs -- and three walks over 5.1 innings. He struck out two.
It's the first time since 2019 that Boyd has served up four homers in the same game, and three of them came off the bat of rookie Joshua Baez, who became the first player in MLB history to go yard in his first three plate appearances. This also marks the first time since June 30 that Boyd has failed to complete six innings, and since the beginning of July he's produced a 3.33 ERA, 1.13 WHIP and 31:16 K:BB over 51.1 innings. Incredibly, the loss was his first since Opening Day. Boyd will try to shake this one off in his next outing, which lines up to come on the road next weekend in Seattle.

Cubs' Dansby Swanson: Resting up Saturday
Swanson isn't in the lineup for Saturday's game against the Cardinals.
Swanson will move to the bench Saturday after going 1-for-3 with a steal and a run scored during Friday's victory. His absence will cause Nico Hoerner to move over to shortstop, opening up second base for Pedro Ramirez.

Cubs' Carson Kelly: Getting rest Saturday
Kelly isn't in the lineup for Saturday's game against the Cardinals.
Kelly will get a day off after beginning the series by going 1-for-3 with two strikeouts Friday. Miguel Amaya will handle catching duties and bat ninth.
