  • Cubs' Alex Bregman: Given day off

Bregman is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Rangers. The third baseman will get a breather a day after the Cubs' 10-game winning streak came to an end. Bregman didn't contribute much to the club's heater by batting just .222 with seven runs and three RBI during the streak before going 0-for-4 with two strikeouts Saturday. Matt Shaw will handle the hot corner in Bregman's place.

  • Cubs' Alex Bregman: Cleared to play through sore toe

Bregman (toe) will start at third base and bat third in Wednesday's game against the Padres. Though he was in some pain after fouling a ball off of his foot in Sunday's 6-0 loss to the Dodgers, Bregman remained in the lineup for Monday's series opener in San Diego before heading to the bench Tuesday. He still ended up making an impact in a reserve role in the Cubs' 8-3 win, entering the game as a pinch hitter and going 2-for-2 with a pair of base knocks, an RBI and a run while playing three innings in the field. Despite the quick turnaround Wednesday as the Cubs and Padres wrap up their series with a day game after a night game, Bregman looks like he's made enough progress with the toe injury to play a full nine innings.

  • Cubs' Alex Bregman: Dealing with toe injury

Bregman was not in the lineup for Tuesday's win over the Padres due to a sore toe, Patrick Mooney of The Athletic reports. Bregman fouled a ball off his foot in Sunday's loss to the Dodgers. He was in Monday's lineup before getting his first day off Tuesday, though he came off the bench to deliver a two-out RBI single in the seventh inning. Given that Bregman was able to enter mid-game Tuesday, he has a good chance to return to the lineup for Wednesday's matinee.

  • Cubs' Alex Bregman: Getting first night off Tuesday

Bregman is not in the starting lineup for Tuesday's game against the Padres. Bregman started the first 29 games of the season for the Cubs, so this will be his first night out of the starting lineup. Matt Shaw is making the start at third base and batting ninth for Chicago. Bregman is 0-for-10 at the plate over the last three contests after hitting safely in 14 of the previous 16 games.

  • Cubs' Alex Bregman: Ties game with homer

Bregman went 2-for-5 with a solo home run in Friday's 6-4 win over the Dodgers. This was his first homer since March 29 versus the Nationals. Bregman's blast tied the game at 4-4 in the eighth inning to help the Cubs in their comeback effort. While he hasn't been hitting for much power, he's gotten on base in 13 of the last 14 games, batting .328 (20-for-61) with a 7:11 BB:K in that span. Bregman is up to three homers, 10 RBI, eight runs scored, three doubles, one triple and a stolen base while batting .266 with a .735 OPS through 26 contests on the year.

  • Cubs' Alex Bregman: Tallies three hits in win

Bregman went 3-for-5 with a triple and a run scored in Wednesday's 7-2 win over the Phillies. Bregman recorded his third three-hit game of the season and also tallied his first triple since 2024 in a productive performance Wednesday. The veteran third baseman is starting to get going after a slow start to his first campaign with the Cubs. Bregman was hitting just .188 through his first 12 games of the year, but his season average is now up to .263 after batting .333 over his last 12 contests.

  • Cubs' Alex Bregman: Drives in three Tuesday

Bregman went 3-for-5 with three RBI in Tuesday's 10-4 win over the Phillies. All three of Bregman's hits were singles, but fantasy managers won't complain about the third baseman's fourth multi-hit effort of the year through 17 games. Overall, Bregman is batting .243 with only a .659 OPS. He posted an .822 OPS last season in Boston, and his bat will likely continue to heat up as the year progresses. Bregman has also played in all of Chicago's games so far, making his playing time look very secure.

  • Cubs' Alex Bregman: Snaps slump with three-hit game

Bregman went 3-for-5 with a double and a run scored in Tuesday's 9-2 win over the Rays. Bregman snapped an 0-for-12 slump across his last three games with his first three-hit effort in a Cubs uniform. The veteran third baseman has yet to really get going for his new team, as he's batting just .200 with two home runs, three RBI and three runs scored through 11 games. Bregman's MLB track record suggests he'll heat up at the plate, and fantasy managers should remain patient, as he's in no real danger of losing playing time.

  • Cubs' Alex Bregman: Goes deep twice Sunday

Bregman went 2-for-4 with a pair of solo home runs in Sunday's 6-3 loss to the Nationals. Bregman came into the contest with just a single and a walk through two games with his new team, but he broke out in a big way with his first two home runs of 2026. The third baseman went deep 18 times last regular season, which was the first time he was under 20 homers since 2021. Bregman should have the chance to produce excellent stats this year as a key piece of a strong Chicago lineup.

  • Cubs' Alex Bregman: Hits first spring home run

Bregman went 2-for-2 with a walk and a solo home run in Sunday's Cactus League game against the White Sox. Bregman connected for his first Cactus League home run as a member of the Cubs, and he's now slashing a robust .455/.571/.909 this spring. The talented third baseman will next play for the United States in the World Baseball Classic before returning to camp. Bregman dealt with a quadriceps strain last year that limited him to only 114 regular-season games for the Red Sox, his fewest in a season since 2021. He's fully healthy now and should slot into the heart of Chicago's lineup to begin the year.

  • Cubs' Alex Bregman: Moving to Chicago on five-year deal

Bregman signed a five-year, $175 million contract with the Cubs on Saturday, Jeff Passan of ESPN.com reports. Bregman played his first nine major-league seasons with Houston before spending last year with Boston. Over 495 regular-season plate appearances with the Red Sox, the third baseman slashed .273/.360/.462 with 18 home runs, 62 RBI, 64 runs and a stolen base. Bregman's .822 OPS was his highest mark since 2019, and he demonstrated his usual excellent eye at the plate with a 14.1 strikeout rate and 10.5 percent walk rate. Bregman should take over as Chicago's starter at the hot corner, which calls into question what the Cubs' plan will be for youngster Matt Shaw.

  • Alex Bregman: Becomes free agent after opting out

Bregman became a free agent after opting out of his contract Monday, Peter Abraham of the Boston Globe reports. Bregman's decision to pass on his $40 million player options for the 2026 and 2027 seasons had been considered a foregone conclusion. He is not going to net that amount on an annual basis on the free-agent market, but the 31-year-old has eyes on a lucrative long-term contract. Bregman slashed .273/.360/.462 with 18 homers over 114 regular-season games in 2025 with Boston. The Red Sox are likely to be aggressive in their efforts to re-sign the third baseman, but Bregman will have many suitors.

  • Red Sox's Alex Bregman: Plans to opt out of deal

Bregman is expected to opt out of his contract with the Red Sox in the offseason, Jon Heyman of the New York Post reports. Bregman signed a one-year $40 million contract with Boston last winter that included $40 million player options for the 2026 and '27 campaigns. The 31-year-old will now forgo his two option years and pursue a multi-year contract in free agency. After slashing .273/.360/.462 with 18 homers, 62 RBI and 64 runs scored over 114 regular-season games during his first season in Boston, he will likely have plenty of suitors vying for his services.

  • Red Sox's Alex Bregman: Ready for Game 1 despite illness

Red Sox chief baseball officer Craig Breslow said Monday that Bregman should be fine to play in Game 1 of the American League Wild Card Series on Tuesday versus the Yankees despite missing the final two games of the regular season due to illness, Tim Healey of The Boston Globe reports. Bregman was kept away from the club for most of the past two days and traveled separately from the team to New York, but he worked out on the field at Yankee Stadium on Monday and will be ready to roll for Game 1. The 31-year-old stumbled a bit to the finish line in slashing just .216/.310/.330 in September, but his full-season OPS of .821 was his highest mark since 2019.

  • Red Sox's Alex Bregman: Resting for second straight day

Bregman is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Tigers. Bregman will rest up for the second day in a row while the Red Sox prepare for a wild-card matchup against a yet-to-be-determined opponent. Nick Sogard will draw the start at third base in place of Bregman, who looks set to finish his 10th regular season in the majors with a .273/.360/.462 slash line, 18 home runs, one stolen base, 64 runs and 62 RBI in 114 games.

Bregman went 1-for-3 with two walks and a solo home run in Friday's 11-7 win over the Rays. Bregman homered for the second time this week, but he's struggled at the plate over the last several weeks. He has a .597 OPS with two homers and 10 RBI over the last 33 games.

  • Red Sox's Alex Bregman: Launches homer in loss

Bregman went 1-for-5 with a solo home run in Saturday's 5-3 loss to the Yankees. Bregman put the Red Sox on the board with his fifth-inning homer, reducing the deficit to 4-1. The blast was his first one since Aug. 12, ending a drought of 27 games. During that span, Bregman slashed .214/.305/.262 with seven RBI.

Bregman went 2-for-4 with a double, two RBI and a run scored in Friday's 10-5 loss to the Diamondbacks. Bregman's two-run double was part of a four-run eighth inning that pulled the Red Sox within a run before Arizona ran away in the bottom of the frame. He's slumped since his last multi-hit game on Aug. 22; Bregman entered the night batting .104 (5-for-48) with two RBI over the previous 12 games.

  • Red Sox's Alex Bregman: Receiving Sunday off

Bregman is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Marlins. Bregman will check out of the starting nine for the first time since July 30 in what appears to be a routine day off. Abraham Toro will cover third base in Bregman's stead Sunday.
