Padres' Xander Bogaerts: Notches steal in loss
Bogaerts went 1-for-4 with a stolen base in Tuesday's 4-3 loss to the Phillies.
Bogaerts has logged four steals over his last eight games despite going 4-for-28 (.143) in that span. The shortstop's strong April has given way to a shaky May -- he's been held hitless 12 times in 23 contests this month, batting just .203 in that span. For the season, he's hitting .245 with a .685 OPS, seven home runs, nine steals, 24 RBI and 22 runs scored over 52 games.

Padres' Ramon Laureano: Lifts solo shot
Laureano went 1-for-3 with a solo home run in Tuesday's 4-3 loss to the Phillies.
Laureano's last two hits have been long balls, a welcome improvement after he went 14 contests without a homer earlier in May. The outfielder is up to seven homers, 21 RBI, 22 runs scored, five stolen bases, five doubles and two triples while hitting .211 with a .676 OPS over 50 contests this season. He is just 4-for-27 (.148) over nine games since his last multi-hit effort.

Padres' Manny Machado: Hits long ball in loss
Machado went 1-for-3 with a two-run home run and a walk in Tuesday's 4-3 loss to the Phillies.
Machado is still struggling with consistent contact. He has just three hits over his last seven games, but all three have gone over the fence. The third baseman's extended slump -- 21 games without a multi-hit effort -- has him at a .173 batting average and .616 OPS this season. He's added nine homers, 27 RBI, 27 runs scored and a stolen base over 52 contests.

Padres' Randy Vasquez: Tagged for three homers in loss
Vasquez (5-3) allowed four runs on eight hits and a walk while striking out two over 5.2 innings to take the loss versus the Phillies on Tuesday.
Vasquez gave up three solo home runs in this outing over the first three innings, and that was too much for the Padres to recover from. He's given up at least one long ball in just five of his 11 starts, but he's yielded seven homers across his last six outings. The right-hander still has a 3.28 ERA despite a pedestrian 1.23 WHIP and 47:17 K:BB through 60.1 innings this season. Vasquez is projected to make his next start in a rematch in Philadelphia.

Padres' Nick Castellanos: Idle Tuesday
Castellanos is not in the lineup Tuesday versus the Phillies.
Castellanos had started in six of the last seven games for the Padres since May 18, but did appear in all of them. He recorded just two hits across 22 plate appearances in that span, with one of those hits being a home run. The Padres' outfield Tuesday is composed of Gavin Sheets, Jackson Merrill and Ramon Laureano.

Padres' Fernando Tatis: Reaches base four times Monday
Tatis went 2-for-2 with two walks and a stolen base in Monday's loss against the Phillies.
Tatis followed up his three-hit performance Sunday by reaching base four times Monday, though both came in losing efforts. The 27-year-old is still searching for his first homer of the campaign, but he has swung the bat much better of late, going 10-for-24 (.417) across the past seven contests while reaching safely in nine consecutive games. His stolen-base total is now up to 13, tied for third-best in the National League.

Padres' Griffin Canning: Logs 6.2 innings in third loss
Canning (0-3) took the loss Monday, allowing three runs on three hits and three walks over 6.2 innings against the Phillies. He struck out five.
Following a first-inning solo homer by Kyle Schwarber, Canning settled in nicely through the middle innings, though his outing ended on a sour note when Brandon Marsh blasted a two-run shot with two outs in the seventh frame. After posting a 12.27 ERA and 2.09 WHIP across 11 innings over his previous three appearances, Monday's outing can be viewed as a step in the right direction for Canning. The right-hander will carry a 7.54 ERA, 1.54 WHIP and 24:13 K:BB through 22.2 innings (five starts) into his next outing, tentatively scheduled for Sunday against the Nationals.

Padres' Gavin Sheets: Sitting out versus southpaw
Sheets is absent from the lineup for Monday's game versus the Phillies.
The lefty-swinging Sheets has been seeing playing time versus lefty hurlers lately as he swings a hot bat, but he will begin Monday's series opener on the bench. Ty France is at first base and hitting seventh for the Padres.

Padres' Fernando Tatis: Tallies three hits in loss
Tatis went 3-for-5 with a double in Sunday's loss to the Athletics.
Tatis logged a trio of hits, though he was thrown out attempting to stretch a single into a double in the third inning, while his fifth-inning double was squandered after Ty France was cut down at home plate, with both instances ending the inning. Nonetheless, it was a step in the right direction for Tatis, who has gone 9-for-27 (.333) with an RBI, four runs and three walks across the past seven contests. He's still searching for his first homer of the year, as the 27-year-old is slashing .247/.326/.289 with six doubles, a triple, 16 RBI, 19 runs and 12 stolen bases across 51 games.

Padres' Ty France: Goes yard in Sunday's loss
France went 2-for-4 with a solo home run in Sunday's 5-2 loss to the Athletics.
France blasted an opposite-field solo shot in the seventh inning to cut into the deficit, though the Padres were unable to rally for a victory. Sunday marked France's seventh multi-hit effort across 32 appearances in 2026. He hasn't been a staple of San Diego's everyday lineup, but the veteran infielder has been productive when called upon, slashing .279/.311/.535 with five homers, three doubles, two triples, 16 RBI, 10 runs and a stolen base across 90 plate appearances.

Padres' Michael King: Ineffective in third loss
King (4-3) took the loss Sunday, allowing four runs on five hits and four walks over 3.2 innings against the Athletics. He struck out four.
King wasn't at his sharpest, surrendering a leadoff homer to Carlos Cortes and never settling into a rhythm before losing the zone and being lifted in the fourth inning. Sunday's shaky outing came on the heels of a dominant three-start stretch in which King posted a 0.96 ERA and 0.91 WHIP across 18.2 innings. Overall, the right-hander owns a 2.76 ERA, 1.15 WHIP and 63:28 K:BB through 62 innings (11 starts) and will look to get back in the win column his next time out, which is tentatively scheduled for Saturday against the Nationals.

Padres' Nick Castellanos: Heading to bench Sunday
Castellanos is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Athletics.
Castellanos will head to the bench for the series finale after he started in each of the Padres' last five games while going 2-for-16 with a solo home run, a walk and and an additional run. With Castellanos taking a seat, the Padres will make room in the lineup for Ty France at first base while Gavin Sheets and Ramon Laureano occupy the corner-outfield positions.

Padres' Freddy Fermin: Receiving rest Sunday
Fermin is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Athletics.
Fermin will get a breather for Sunday's day game after he had started behind the plate in three of the Friars' last four contests. Rodolfo Duran will handle catching duties in the series finale.
