Twins' Yoendrys Gomez: Pockets 17th save
Gomez walked one and gave up a solo home run in the ninth inning Wednesday but still recorded his 17th save of the season in a 7-5 win over the Orioles.
Leody Taveras launched a first-pitch fastball into the right-field seats to open the top of the ninth, but Gomez was able to escape the frame with no further damage. The homer was the first the right-hander had served up since June 29, and since joining the Twins in early May, Gomez has delivered a 2.00 ERA, 1.19 WHIP and 37:18 K:BB through 36 innings while converting all 16 of his save chances.

Twins' Zebby Matthews: Comes away with win Wednesday
Matthews (6-8) picked up the win in Wednesday's 7-5 victory over the Orioles, giving up four runs on six hits and two walks over five innings. He struck out four.
The right-hander wasn't particularly sharp, tossing 60 of 94 pitches for strikes, but Matthews got enough offensive support to land in the win column. He also served up another homer, a three-run shot in the third inning by Dylan Beavers, and over seven starts since the beginning of July, Matthews has been taken deep seven times in 34.2 innings to help fuel a 7.27 ERA and 1.70 WHIP. With Joe Ryan (lower body) still lacking a target date for his return, Matthews will remain in the rotation for now, and he's set to make his next start at home early next week against Atlanta.

Twins' Byron Buxton: Might be activated Thursday
Twins manager Derek Shelton said Wednesday that "[Thursday] is a possibility" for Buxton's (hip) activation from the 10-day injured list, Jack Azoulay-Haron of ELEmergente.com reports.
Buxton has been sidelined since late July with a right hip impingement, but he went through a full workout at Target Field on Tuesday and his activation is imminent. As long as he doesn't report any lingering soreness following Tuesday's workout, it sounds as though Buxton will be back in the lineup for Thursday's "Field of Dreams" game against the Phillies.

Twins' Ryan Jeffers: Exiting starting lineup
Jeffers is not in the lineup for Wednesday's contest versus the Orioles.
Jeffers will grab a seat for Wednesday's matinee after starting behind the dish in the first two games of the series. Victor Caratini will do the catching for the Twins.

Twins' Kaelen Culpepper: Taking seat Wednesday
Culpepper is absent from the lineup for Wednesday's game versus the Orioles.
It's a routine day off for the rookie after he started the first two games of the series. Ryan Kreidler will step in at shortstop in Culpepper's stead.

Twins' Zebby Matthews: Available to start Wednesday
Matthews (foot) is listed as the Twins' probable starting pitcher for Wednesday's game against the Orioles.
Called up from Triple-A St. Paul on Friday to replace the injured Joe Ryan (glute) in the rotation, Matthews picked up a win over the Brewers while striking out four and giving up six runs (three earned) on seven hits and two walks before exiting after five innings due to a right foot blister. The right-hander was apparently able to complete a between-starts bullpen session without incident and won't end up having to miss a turn through the rotation.

Twins' Bailey Ober: Done in by long ball in loss
Ober (7-4) took the loss against the Orioles on Tuesday, allowing five runs on eight hits and one walk with four strikeouts over six innings.
Ober allowed five runs over the game's first three innings, all of which came via three Orioles home runs. It comes on the heels of back-to-back quality starts by the 27-year-old, who suffered his first loss in six outings since returning from the injured list July 9. He owns a 4.64 ERA, 1.23 WHIP and 67:25 K across 99 innings this season and lines up for a difficult home matchup with Atlanta next week.

Twins' Joe Ryan: Playing catch
Ryan (glute) threw on flat ground Monday, Aaron Gleeman of AaronGleeman.com reports.
The right-hander landed on the injured list Friday due to a left glute strain, but it's encouraging that he was shut down from throwing for only a few days. Ryan will be eligible to be reinstated for the Aug. 21 matchup with the Padres, though it remains to be seen if he'll be ready to go at that point.

Twins' Byron Buxton: Goes through full workout
Buxton (hip) went through a full workout at Target Field on Monday, MLB.com reports.
Working his way back from a right hip impingement, Buxton ran the bases and took batting practice on the field as part of a "very encouraging" workout, per Twins manager Derek Shelton. The club will wait to see how Buxton recovers from the workout before determining next steps, but Shelton noted that the outfielder won't need a rehab assignment before being activated from the 10-day injured list. Buxton's return appears to be imminent, but the Twins could offer more clarity on the center fielder's status later Tuesday.

Twins' Austin Martin: Stuffs stat sheet in win
Martin went 4-for-5 with a home run, a double, a stolen base and two additional runs scored in Monday's 9-5 win over the Orioles.
Martin was a thorn in the side of Baltimore pitching out of the leadoff spot, showing off both power and speed Monday. It was his first four-hit attack of the campaign as well as the first time he's homered and swiped a bag in a game this season. Martin has an .809 OPS in 120 at-bats versus left-handed pitchers as opposed to a .587 OPS over 157 at-bats against right-handers, and his lack of success against righties should continue to inhibit his fantasy upside.

Twins' Dean Kremer: Dominates former team in win
Kremer (2-4) earned the win against the Orioles on Monday, allowing one run on one hit and one walk in seven innings. He struck out seven.
Facing the team that traded him away a bit over a week ago, Kremer looked very comfortable on the mound against his former Baltimore teammates. The right-hander poured in 60 of his 89 offerings for strikes, putting together his longest outing of the year in his first quality start since July 1 versus the White Sox. Kremer has conceded just a pair of runs in his first 12 innings for the Twins, and he'll try to further improve his 5.25 ERA, 1.17 WHIP and 47:14 K:BB over 48 frames in 2026 this weekend against Philadelphia.

Twins' Emmanuel Rodriguez: Set to rejoin Triple-A lineup
Triple-A St. Paul reinstated Rodriguez (thumb) from the 60-day injured list Monday, Theodore Tollefson of ZoneCoverage.com reports.
Rodriguez is poised to return to the St. Paul lineup Tuesday for what will be his first appearance at the Triple-A level since May 1, as he's been shelved for more than three months while recovering from left thumb surgery. The 23-year-old outfielder proved his health in an extended rehab assignment between the Single-A and High-A levels, during which he slashed .267/.421/.367 with two extra-base hits and seven walks over nine games.

Twins' Austin Martin: Handling leadoff role Monday
Martin will start in left field and bat leadoff in Monday's game against the Orioles.
Martin has now made seven of his last eight starts out of the leadoff spot, as the Twins continue to deploy him as their table setter versus left-handed starting pitchers. The 27-year-old has produced an impressive 124 wRC+ in 150 plate appearances versus lefties, but his struggles against right-handed pitching (.224/.303/.276 slash line, 67 wRC+ over 175 plate appearances) will hinder his efforts to break out of a short-side platoon role.
