  • Phillies' Jesus Luzardo: Terrific again Thursday

Luzardo (8-4) earned the win over Cincinnati on Thursday, allowing two hits and issuing two walks while striking out 11 batters over seven scoreless innings. Luzardo allowed only one baserunner to reach scoring position and racked up 20 whiffs en route to 11 punchouts. The left-hander completed seven frames for just the third time this season while recording his 10th quality start. Luzardo has won four of his past six outings, posting a minuscule 1.45 ERA with a 52:14 K:BB across 37.1 innings during that span. In the very likely event that he doesn't pitch again this weekend, he'll wrap up a strong first half with a 3.51 ERA, 1.22 WHIP and 136:35 K:BB across 110.1 frames spanning 19 starts. The strikeout total currently ranks fourth in the majors.

  • Phillies' Jesus Luzardo: Dominates Royals in victory

Luzardo (7-4) earned the win over Kansas City on Saturday, allowing one run on four hits and no walks while striking out nine batters over six innings. Luzardo overwhelmed KC batters with 19 whiffs en route to nine punchouts. The left-hander recorded his third quality start over his past four outings and kept the ball in the park for the third consecutive appearance. Luzardo has surrendered five or more earned runs five times this season, but in his other 13 starts he's given up two or fewer earned runs. Collectively, that's added up to a 3.75 ERA, 1.27 WHIP and 125:33 K:BB over 103.1 innings.

  • Phillies' Jesus Luzardo: Fans six in five strong innings

Luzardo took a no-decision Sunday against the Mets, allowing one run on four hits and three walks in five innings. He struck out six. Luzardo mostly cruised through four scoreless innings to begin the afternoon, but the Mets were able to scratch a run across during the fifth frame. Sunday also marked four consecutive starts with two earned runs allowed or fewer for the hard-throwing southpaw, who has also accomplished that feat in eight of his last nine outings. Luzardo will take a 3.88 ERA, 1.30 WHIP and 116:33 K:BB over 97.1 innings into his next scheduled start against the lowly Royals.

  • Phillies' Jesus Luzardo: Strikes out 13 in no-decision

Luzardo did not factor into the decision in Tuesday's 14-9 win against the Nationals, allowing five runs on six hits and three walks with 13 strikeouts over 6.2 innings. Luzardo struggled through a four-run fourth inning but was otherwise electric, generating 19 whiffs on 104 pitches and matching a career high with 13 strikeouts. It continued an uneven June for the 28-year-old, who's had two five-run outings while yielding three earned runs combined in his other two starts this month. He'll carry a 4.39 ERA, 1.31 WHIP and 110:30 K:BB across 92.1 innings this season into a road matchup against the Mets this weekend.

  • Phillies' Jesus Luzardo: Fans nine in Tuesday's win

Luzardo (6-4) picked up the win in Tuesday's 8-2 victory over the Marlins, allowing two runs on five hits and two walks over seven innings. He struck out nine. The southpaw blanked the team that traded him to the Phillies ahead of the 2025 campaign for six innings before Esteury Ruiz touched him up for a two-run homer in the seventh. Luzardo has won three straight decisions, posting a 3.00 ERA, 1.30 WHIP and 31:12 K:BB through 30 innings over five starts since his last defeat, and Tuesday's quality start was his seventh of the season. Luzardo will look to keep rolling in his next outing, which is set to come on the road early next week against the Nationals, the team that originally drafted him in 2016.

  • Phillies' Jesus Luzardo: Works around trouble in win

Luzardo (5-4) earned the win Wednesday against the Blue Jays, allowing one run on four hits and four walks in 5.2 innings. He struck out eight. Although Luzardo tied a season high in walks issued, he was still able to hang in there for a strong outing overall. The 28-year-old southpaw turned in his most punchouts since his May 3 start in Miami, and he gave up fewer than three runs for the fifth time in his last six appearances. Luzardo still has an underwhelming 4.35 ERA, 1.33 WHIP and 88:25 K:BB over 78.2 innings, but he's set for a favorable home matchup against Miami his next time out.

  • Phillies' Jesus Luzardo: Escapes with no-decision Friday

Luzardo didn't factor into the decision in Friday's 8-6 win over the White Sox, giving up five runs on seven hits and two walks over six innings. He struck out two. The ball was flying out of Citizens Bank Park on Friday night, and three of the seven hits off Luzardo left the yard, including a pair of solo shots by Randal Grichuk. Even so, the southpaw left the mound in line for his fifth win of the season, but Chicago was able to tie it up in the top of the seventh inning. Luzardo hadn't served up a homer in any of his prior four starts, but erratic performances are nothing new for the 28-year-old. He'll take a 4.56 ERA, 1.33 WHIP and 80:21 K:BB through 73 innings into his next outing, which is scheduled to come on the road in Toronto.

  • Phillies' Jesus Luzardo: Escapes early jam in fourth win

Luzardo (4-4) earned the win Monday, allowing four hits, two walks and a hit batsman over six scoreless innings in a 3-0 victory over the Padres. He struck out six. Luzardo found himself in a bases-loaded jam with no outs in the first inning, but he escaped unscathed by striking out Manny Machado and Jackson Merrill before inducing a weak groundout from Nick Castellanos. From there, Luzardo was able to navigate the remainder of the outing effectively en route to his third scoreless start of the season. The southpaw will carry a 4.38 ERA, 1.28 WHIP and 72:17 K:BB across 61.2 innings (11 starts) into his next outing, tentatively scheduled for Sunday against the Dodgers.

  • Phillies' Jesus Luzardo: Stuck with loss in quality start

Luzardo (3-4) took the loss Tuesday as the Phillies fell 4-1 to the Reds, allowing two runs on five hits and two walks over six innings. He struck out five. The southpaw tossed 95 pitches (58 strikes) en route to his second straight quality start and his fifth of the year in 10 trips to the mound, but Luzardo got little run support with Chase Burns pitching just a little bit better opposite him. After a rough start to the season, Luzardo has a 2.73 ERA, 1.21 WHIP and 36:10 K:BB over his last 33 innings. He'll look to get back in the win column for the first time since May 3 in his next outing, which lines up to come on the road early next week in San Diego.

  • Phillies' Jesus Luzardo: Fires six scoreless in no-decision

Luzardo did not factor into the decision Thursday against the Red Sox, allowing four hits and one walk while striking out four over six scoreless innings. Luzardo turned in one of his sharper outings of the season, throwing 59 of 92 pitches for strikes while matching former teammate Ranger Suarez in a pitchers' duel that featured five-plus scoreless innings from both sides. Although Luzardo recorded only four strikeouts Thursday, the left-hander still owns an impressive 30 percent strikeout rate through nine starts this season. He has now logged three quality starts in his last four outings and owns a 5.07 ERA, 1.33 WHIP and 61:13 K:BB across 49.1 innings.

  • Phillies' Jesus Luzardo: Melts down again Friday

Luzardo didn't factor into the decision in Friday's 9-7 extra-innings loss to the Rockies, surrendering six runs on six hits and three walks over three-plus innings. He struck out six. The volatile southpaw got tagged for one run in the first inning but seemed to steady the ship until the fourth, when the first seven Colorado batters reached base before Luzardo mercifully got the hook after 95 pitches (59 strikes). It's the third time in eight starts this season he's failed to last five innings, and the fourth time he's coughed up five or more runs, leaving him with a 5.98 ERA and 1.40 WHIP over 43.2 frames despite a seemingly elite 57:12 K:BB. Luzardo will try to regain his form in his next outing, which lines up to come on the road next week in Boston.

  • Phillies' Jesus Luzardo: Dominates in third win

Luzardo (3-3) earned the win Sunday against the Marlins, allowing two runs on eight hits and no walks in 6.1 innings. He struck out 10. The hard-throwing left-hander worked aggressively Sunday, tallying double-digit strikeouts for the second time this year while throwing 66 of his 102 pitches for strikes. Although the eight hits allowed were his second most of the year, Luzardo also registered an impressive 16 whiffs on the afternoon. He's been inconsistent overall in 2026, as evidenced by a 5.09 ERA and 1.28 WHIP over 40.2 frames, but Luzardo is set to carry a stellar 51:9 K:BB into a favorable home matchup versus the Rockies his next time out.

  • Phillies' Jesus Luzardo: Eight punchouts in scoreless outing

Luzardo (2-3) earned the win against the Giants on Tuesday, allowing two hits while striking out eight across seven scoreless innings. He did not issue a walk. It was a dominant effort from Luzardo, with Tuesday's start highlighted by four consecutive strikeouts from the third to fourth innings before the lefty retired the last 11 batters he faced. This marked the third time in six starts that Luzardo gave up one run or zero, but he has also yielded five runs or more in those other three starts and sits at a 5.50 ERA, 1.28 WHIP and 41:9 K:BB across 34.1 innings this season. Luzardo's next start is lined up for this weekend against the Marlins in Miami.

  • Phillies' Jesus Luzardo: Limits damage against Cubs

Luzardo did not factor into the decision Tuesday against the Cubs, allowing one run on five hits and four walks while striking out three over 4.2 innings. Coming off a rough stretch in which he allowed a combined 13 earned runs over his last two starts, Luzardo showed some improvement Tuesday despite pitching through consistent traffic. He allowed a runner to reach third base in multiple innings, but the only damage came in the fifth after a leadoff walk and single forced him out, with an inherited runner eventually scoring. While the left-hander was able to limit runs, his command remained inconsistent, as he issued a season-high four walks and allowed five hits for the fifth straight start. Luzardo owns a 6.91 ERA, 1.54 WHIP and 33:9 K:BB across 27.1 innings but he should receive a chance to improve his numbers with his next scheduled outing set against a weak San Francisco lineup.

  • Phillies' Jesus Luzardo: Shelled again in loss

Luzardo (1-3) took the loss Wednesday against the Cubs, allowing nine runs (eight earned) on 12 hits and one walk while striking out four over 5.1 innings. Luzardo was prone to big innings once again, as after two scoreless frames to begin the game in which Chicago managed only one hit, the Cubs posted a three-spot in the third and then chased the the left-hander from the contest with four runs in the sixth. Luzardo's performance Wednesday continued a troubling early-season trend, as he has now allowed five or more earned runs in three of his first four starts, ballooning his ERA to 7.94 through 22.2 innings despite a 30:5 K:BB. While there's still plenty of time for Luzardo to turn things around, it's been a concerning start after Philadelphia committed to him long term with a five-year, $135 million extension this spring.

  • Phillies' Jesus Luzardo: Melts down in fifth inning Friday

Luzardo (1-2) took the loss Friday as the Phillies fell 5-4 to the Diamondbacks, coughing up five runs on five hits and three walks over 4.2 innings. He struck out eight. The southpaw had a no-hitter going through four innings, but the wheels came off quickly for Luzardo in the fifth after a leadoff single by Jose Fernandez. His tendency to lose focus in key moments continues to hold Luzardo back despite his obvious talent -- he has a 1.15 WHIP and 26:4 K:BB in 17.1 innings through three starts to begin the season, but somehow that's led to a 6.23 ERA. He'll try to rebound in his next outing, which lines up to come at home next week against the Cubs.

  • Phillies' Jesus Luzardo: Fans 11 in victory

Luzardo (1-1) earned the win over Colorado on Saturday, allowing one run on five hits and no walks while striking out 11 batters over 6.2 innings. Luzardo was roughed up for six runs across six frames in his season debut against the Rangers last Sunday, but he turned things around impressively against the Rockies. The left-hander not only limited Colorado to one run, but he also racked up a whopping 23 swinging strikes en route to 11 punchouts. Luzardo had seven double-digit strikeout games and a career-high 216 punchouts during the regular season last year, so he certainly has the ability to mow batters down when he's on his game. He's slated to make his next start at home against Arizona.

  • Phillies' Jesus Luzardo: Inks five-year contract extension

The Phillies signed Luzardo to a five-year, $135 million contract extension Monday, Jim Salisbury of NBC Sports Philadelphia reports. Per Robert Murray of FanSided.com, the deal also includes a $32.5 million club option for 2032. Luzardo had been set to reach free agency after the upcoming season, but he's now locked in with the Phillies at least through the end of the 2031 campaign. The left-hander finished seventh in the National League Cy Young voting in his first season in Philadelphia after posting a 3.92 ERA and 216:57 K:BB over 183.2 innings covering 32 starts.

The Phillies and Luzardo avoided arbitration by agreeing to a one-year, $11 million contract Thursday, Ari Alexander of 7 News Boston reports. Luzardo will nearly double his salary from 2025 after posting a 3.92 ERA, 1.22 WHIP and 216:57 K:BB over 183.2 regular-season innings covering 32 starts in 2025 in his first season with the Phillies. The left-hander is slated to reach free agency next offseason.

  • Phillies' Jesus Luzardo: Hit with tough-luck loss

Luzardo was saddled with the loss in Game 2 of the National League Division Series against the Dodgers on Monday after allowing two runs on three hits and one walk while striking out five across six innings. Luzardo dealt with traffic in the first inning, surrendering a hit and a walk, but he managed to escape without giving up a run. He would proceed to fire four perfect innings, striking out four along the way. Luzardo again found trouble in the top of the seventh, giving up a pair of base knocks before being lifted from the game. Both of those runners would score later in the inning, holding Luzardo accountable for the loss. The southpaw is unlikely to be available for a start until Game 5, though it's possible he could eat an inning later in the week in LA.
