  • Astros' Ronel Blanco: Nearing rehab assignment

Blanco (elbow) tossed 40 pitches in a simulated game Saturday and will soon start a rehab stint in the Florida Complex League, Brian McTaggart of MLB.com reports.

Blanco has been sidelined all season while continuing his recovery from last June's Tommy John surgery with an internal brace. The right-hander has been throwing bullpens for a few months and progressed to facing live hitters in late May. Blanco now appears ready to return to game action in the FCL, though he isn't expected to be ready to pitch for the Astros until after the All-Star break.

  • Astros' Yainer Diaz: Could return early next week

Diaz (oblique) could rejoin the Astros during the team's series versus Detroit that begins Monday, Brian McTaggart of MLB.com reports.

Diaz has been sidelined since early May due to a left oblique strain. He began a minor-league rehab assignment June 9 and has gone 2-for-11 with a walk through three games with Triple-A Sugar Land. Diaz figures to reclaim his role as Houston's No. 1 catcher upon his return.

  • Astros' Yordan Alvarez: Homers twice Friday

Alvarez went 3-for-5 with two home runs and six total RBI in Friday's win over the Royals.

Alvarez slugged both homers as part of the Astros' nine-run first inning. He launched a two-run shot off Luinder Avila and later belted a grand slam off Mason Black. Alvarez is up to 24 homers on the season, and he snapped a four-game home-run drought with this impressive performance. Alvarez also owns a blistering 1.092 OPS in 70 games and 305 plate appearances this season.

  • Astros' Nate Pearson: Earns win Friday

Pearson (1-0) earned the win Friday against the Royals with two scoreless innings. He allowed one hit and struck out one.

Pearson did a good job finding the strike zone with 13 strikes on 15 pitches, and he made quick work of the seven batters he faced despite allowing a single to Salvador Perez in the sixth inning. Pearson hasn't allowed any runs in six of his seven outings this season and figures to continue as a middle reliever for Houston. He owns a 3.12 ERA across 8.2 innings and seven outings so far.

  • Astros' Tatsuya Imai: Gets just two outs Friday

Imai didn't factor in the decision Friday against the Royals after allowing five runs on four hits and a walk across two-thirds of an inning. He struck out one.

Imai tossed his first pitch holding a nine-run lead after the Astros' offensive explosion against Luinder Avila, but Imai wasn't much better and failed to complete the first inning. This was Imai's shortest outing of the season excluding the April 10 start against the Mariners in which he departed due to a right arm injury after recording just one out. Imai will carry a 6.43 ERA and 1.51 WHIP across nine outings into his next start, scheduled against the Tigers at home.

  • Astros' Josh Hader: Second save of season

Hader recorded his second save of the season while pitching a perfect inning in Friday's 10-8 win over the Royals. He didn't record a strikeout.

Hader has gone 2-for-2 in save chances this season, and he looks as dominant as ever despite not making his season debut until June 3 following a left shoulder strain that kept him sidelined for the first two-plus months of the campaign. Hader owns a 7:1 K:BB in five appearances in 2026 and has yet to allow a run or a hit.

The Astros designated Weiss for assignment Friday.

Given his $2.6 million salary, he will likely clear waivers and remain at Sugar Land.

For the season, Whitcomb is batting just .130 with a .558 OPS, two homers, five RBI, two runs scored and a 1:11 BB:K over 24 plate appearances. • Astros' Cam Smith: Lifts seventh homer

Smith went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Wednesday's 3-2 extra-inning loss to the Angels.

Smith had gone 10 games without a homer before lifting a solo shot off Chase Silseth in the eighth inning to tie the game at 2-2. During that power drought, Smith still had three extra-base hits and four RBI. The outfielder has endured a bit of a sophomore slump in 2026, batting .220 with a .675 OPS, seven homers, 26 RBI, 27 runs scored and eight stolen bases over 69 contests. While his numbers aren't particularly impressive, he continues to handle a starting role in right field.

Nick Madrigal hit a groundball in the seventh inning that bounced up and struck Lambert's right hand, leading to the latter's removal. The 29-year-old righty said after the game that he feels fine, per Brian McTaggart of MLB.com, but the Astros will likely monitor his health leading up to his next turn through the rotation, which is lined up to come next week against Detroit. He gave up two runs on five hits with six strikeouts and no walks over 6.1 frames prior to his exit.
