Rays' Jesse Scholtens: Tagged for five runs in loss
Scholtens (1-1) took the loss Monday versus the Reds after allowing five runs on seven hits and no walks across 5.2 innings. He struck out six.
After surrendering two runs during the opening frame, Scholtens settled down pretty well with just one run allowed over the next four innings, but he was unable to make it through the sixth and gave up two more runs on two hits and a hit-by-pitch. The right-hander entered Monday's contest with 9.2 scoreless frames though his first two outings of the campaign, so he should have a decent chance of sticking in Tampa Bay's banged up rotation. Scholtens has a 2.93 ERA, 0.98 WHIP and 13:3 K:BB through three appearances and tentatively lines up to pitch against the Twins this weekend.

Rays' Gavin Lux: Ready to resume rehab assignment
Lux (shoulder/ankle) is expected to resume his rehab assignment with Triple-A Durham on Tuesday or Wednesday, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.
After opening the season on the injured list due to a right shoulder impingement, Lux kicked off a rehab assignment with Durham on April 2 and slashed .103/.297/.172 with a 27 percent strikeout rate over nine games before being shut down after rolling his left ankle April 11. Lux has apparently made good progress following a week-and-a-half-long layoff and is ready to rejoin the Durham lineup, though he'll likely need to show some improvement at the plate before the Rays are ready to activate him from the IL. Tampa Bay has gotten by with a timeshare of Richie Palacios and Ben Williamson at second base through the first three-plus weeks of the season, but Lux should settle in as the primary option at the position once he's reinstated.

Rays' Joe Boyle: Return not imminent
Boyle (elbow) is playing catch from 90 feet, MLB.com reports.
The Rays are hopeful that the right-hander will be able to throw a bullpen session by the end of April. Boyle is on the 15-day injured list due to a right elbow strain, and he may need a minor-league rehab assignment before being cleared to rejoin Tampa Bay's rotation. Fantasy managers shouldn't expect him to be available until sometime in May.

Rays' Jadher Areinamo: Returns to health at Double-A
Areinamo (hamstring) has gone 4-for-18 with two home runs and three RBI in four games since being activated from Double-A Montgomery's 7-day injured list Tuesday.
Areinamo didn't see much action during spring training before suffering a hamstring injury in late February, but he's put on a power display since being cleared to make his 2026 debut for Montgomery. He's already halfway to his home-run total from last season at Double-A, as Areinamo slugged four long balls in 37 games for Montgomery following his acquisition from the Brewers last July.

Rays' Edwin Uceta: Shut down with new shoulder injury
Rays manager Kevin Cash said Monday that Uceta will be shut down for 2-to-3 weeks after being diagnosed with a right shoulder strain, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.
Uceta began the season on the injured list with a right shoulder impingement, and he suffered a new shoulder injury during his last rehab appearance with Triple-A Durham on Wednesday. The righty reliever will need time to get built back up once he does resume throwing, so Uceta will be out for several more weeks even in a best-case scenario. He's a candidate to be moved to the 60-day IL when/if the Rays need to free up a spot on their 40-man roster.

Rays' Ryan Pepiot: Not progressing as hoped
Rays manager Kevin Cash said that Pepiot's injured right hip felt "unstable" while the pitcher played catch Monday, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.
Pepiot suffered a setback with his right hip last week when he threw a bullpen session, which resulted in him being shifted to the 60-day injured list. He was given an injection and shut down for a few days, and it seems the hip issue is still lingering. It's unclear whether Pepiot will be shut down again, but clearly the righty isn't progressing as well as hoped. He won't be eligible to make his season debut with the Rays until May 24.

Rays' Michael Grove: Shifted to 60-day injured list
The Rays transferred Grove (shoulder) from the 15-day injured list to the 60-day IL on Monday.
The transaction frees up a 40-man roster spot for right-hander Trevor Martin, who was called up from Triple-A Durham. Grove was signed last week as he continues his recovery from right shoulder surgery, and it's unclear when he might be ready to pitch in a game.

Rays' Trevor Martin: Added to bullpen
The Rays selected Martin's contract from Triple-A Durham on Monday.
He'll be absorbing the roster spot vacated by Mason Englert (forearm), who was placed on the 15-day injured list. Martin earned his first-ever big-league promotion after allowing just two unearned runs with an 11:6 K:BB in his first 9.1 innings with Durham.

Rays' Mason Englert: Sidelined by tight forearm
The Rays placed Englert on the 15-day injured list Monday due to right forearm tightness.
Englert had appeared in each of the Rays' last two games and was charged with one run over 2.1 frames in Sunday's loss to the Pirates. Though it's unclear whether Englert still needs to undergo imaging, manager Kevin Cash told Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times that the right-hander's forearm injury isn't viewed as a long-term concern.

Rays' Jesse Scholtens: Drawing start Monday
Scholtens will be the Rays' starting pitcher in Monday's contest against the Reds, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.
Scholtens had been expected to take the ball Monday in some form, and the Rays have decided to deploy him as a traditional starter rather than a bulk reliever. The right-hander's first two appearances this season came in bulk relief, and he's fared well in tossing a combined 9.2 shutout innings with a 7:3 K:BB.

Pirates' Spencer Horwitz: Slugs pinch-hit homer
Horwitz went 1-for-2 with a solo home run Sunday against the Rays.
Horwitz began the game on the bench with a lefty on the mound, though he entered as a pinch hitter in the sixth inning. He slugged his second homer of the season in his first plate appearance, both of which have come in his last seven appearances. He's gone 6-for-18 with three RBI and four runs scored in that span.

Pirates' Jake Mangum: Two hits from leadoff spot
Mangum went 2-for-5 with a double, a run scored and a stolen base Sunday against the Rays.
Mangum hit leadoff for the fourth time this season, all of which have come against lefties. He jump-started the offense with a double in his first at-bat, and he later reached base on a bunt single before stealing third. Mangum draws only sporadic starts, but he's hit .283 with three stolen bases and 10 runs scored across 17 games on the camapign.

Pirates' Nick Yorke: First home run of 2026
Yorke went 1-for-4 with a solo home run Sunday against the Rays.
Yorke's playing time has fluctuated quite a bit early this season, though he did start for the fourth time in Pittsburgh's last five games Sunday. He made his lone hit of the contest count, slugging his first home run of the campaign in the eighth inning. After a hot start to the year, Yorke has just three hits across his last 28 at-bats.

Rays' Garrett Cleavinger: Kicks off rehab assignment
Cleavinger (calf) began a rehab assignment with Triple-A Durham on Sunday, walking three and giving up a three-run home run in one-third of an inning.
Cleavinger, who's recovering from right calf tightness, wasn't sharp in his first game action since March 30. The Rays will presumably want the southpaw to get a few rehab outings under his belt to knock off the rust before they consider reinstating him from the injured list, likely positioning Cleavinger for a return in late April if all goes well in his subsequent appearances at Triple-A.

Rays' Shane McClanahan: Hit around in second loss
McClanahan (1-2) took the loss Sunday against the Pirates, allowing four runs on eight hits and no walks in 4.1 innings. He struck out five.
While he did keep the ball in the yard Sunday, McClanahan was touched up for a season-high eight knocks and a season-worst four runs allowed. It was encouraging to see the left-hander throw a season-high 90 pitches, but he's still yet to work past the fifth inning in any of his first four starts of 2026. Although he boasts an excellent .191 opponent batting average over 18 frames so far this year, McClanahan will be looking to improve upon his 5.00 ERA, 1.33 WHIP and 18:11 K:BB his next time out versus the Twins.

Pirates' Mitch Keller: Seven strong innings in second win
Keller (2-1) notched the win Sunday against the Rays, allowing two runs on five hits and no walks in seven innings. He struck out five.
It was perhaps a season-best performance by the right-hander, who recorded season-high figures in innings and strikeouts. Keller has done a fine job of providing length for the Pirates so far in 2026, tossing at least six innings in four of his five starts. He'll bring a strong 2.79 ERA, 1.10 WHIP and 19:9 K:BB over his first 29 frames into his next outing, which is currently projected to come against the division-rival Brewers.
