  • Willy Adames SS | SF

Brewers' Willy Adames: Sitting after elimination

Adames is not in Tuesday's lineup against the Pirates.

It's fitting that Adames, who leads Milwaukee's position players in fWAR (4.6) by a wide margin, will get the day off after they were eliminated from the postseason mix Monday. Luis Urias is starting at shortstop and batting cleanup.

  • Ezequiel Tovar SS | COL

Rockies' Ezequiel Tovar: On bench Tuesday

Tovar isn't starting Tuesday against the Dodgers.

The young shortstop's major-league career has gotten off to a slow start, as he has just a .483 OPS through his first eight games. Tovar will take a seat Tuesday, which moves Jose Iglesias to start at shortstop, C.J. Cron over to designated hitter, Michael Toglia to first base, Randal Grichuk to right field and Garrett Hampson into the lineup to start in center field.

  • Miguel Rojas 2B | LAD

Marlins' Miguel Rojas: Heads to bench

Rojas will sit Tuesday against Atlanta, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports.

Rojas has been playing through a wrist injury since late July and will undergo surgery Wednesday morning. He was in the lineup Monday and went 0-for-2 with a walk in what may end up being his final appearance of the year. Joey Wendle will start at shortstop Tuesday.

  • Jon Berti 3B | CHC

Marlins' Jon Berti: Swipes bag No. 40

Berti went 2-for-4 with a run scored and a stolen base in Monday's 4-0 win over Atanta.

The veteran utility player will almost certainly be the only player in the majors this season to reach the 40-steal plateau. Berti's also set a new career high in the category at the age of 32 -- his previous best was only 17 in 2019 -- but his .236/.319/.328 slash line indicates how one-dimensional his fantasy value has been. With MLB making rule changes that should boost the running game league-wide in 2023, he could be overvalued at draft tables if his SB total no longer stands out from the pack.

  • Tommy Edman LF | LAD

Cardinals' Tommy Edman: Sitting again Monday

Edman is out of the lineup for Monday's game in Pittsburgh, John Denton of MLB.com reports.

Edman is on the bench for the third time in five games while Paul DeJong steps in for him at shortstop. Though he's limping to the finish line of the regular season with a .100/.229/.133 slash line over his last nine games, Edman may not be fully secure in an everyday role as the postseason approaches.

  • Miguel Rojas 2B | LAD

    Marlins' Miguel Rojas: Starting Monday

Rojas is starting Monday against Atlanta, Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reports.

Although Rojas will undergo surgery on his right wrist Wednesday, he'll be available for the Marlins' games against Atlanta on Monday and Tuesday. He's starting at shortstop and batting eighth Monday and shouldn't have any significant restrictions since he's been playing through the issue since late July.

  • Jose Barrero SS | BAL

Reds' Jose Barrero: Playing time on rise

Barrero will start at shortstop and bat eighth in Monday's game against the Cubs.

Before resting in Sunday's 8-1 loss to Chicago, Barrero had started in each of the past five games. He'll be back in the lineup as the series with the Cubs shifts to Cincinnati, but the 24-year-old hasn't done much to prove that he's deserving of a full-time role heading into 2023. Over his last 12 games, Barrero has gone 5-for-41 with a 48.8 percent strikeout rate.

  • Dansby Swanson SS | CHC

Braves' Dansby Swanson: Enjoys huge weekend vs. Mets

Swanson went 1-for-3 with a solo home run and a walk in Sunday's 5-3 win over the Mets.

Swanson and Matt Olson were the offensive stars of Atlanta's series sweep of New York, with both players leaving the yard in all three games and driving in nine runs between them. The shortstop is two home runs behind last season's personal-best total (27), but Swanson is otherwise in the midst of what has been a career-best campaign in his seventh year in the majors. He's currently holding down career-high marks in batting average (.277), RBI (96), runs (99) and stolen bases (18).

  • Miguel Rojas 2B | LAD

Marlins' Miguel Rojas: Set to undergo wrist surgery

Rojas is scheduled to undergo surgery on his right wrist Wednesday, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports.

Rojas sustained the wrist injury July 21 versus the Rangers and has been playing through it ever since. The Marlins aren't yet placing Rojas on the injured list, so he could still play Monday and Tuesday against Atlanta before he undergoes surgery the morning of Miami's season finale Wednesday. For the season, Rojas has produced a .237 average with six homers, 19 doubles, 36 RBI, 34 runs and nine stolen bases over 139 games.

  • Paul DeJong SS | DET

Cardinals' Paul DeJong: Mired in deep slump

DeJong has gone 4-for-36 (.111) since the start of September.

He's played in 20 games in that span, recording just one extra-base hit -- an RBI double in Sunday's 7-5 loss to the Pirates. DeJong has started to regain some playing time since the Cardinals clinched a playoff spot, starting three of the last four games at shortstop. The 29-year-old is still slashing a meager .152/.241/.288 with six home runs, 25 RBI, 17 runs scored and three stolen bases through 74 contests this year, with his defense likely the only thing between him and another demotion.
