  • Rockies' Ezequiel Tovar: Two homers in win Friday

Tovar went 2-for-4 with two home runs, four RBI, one walk, a stolen base and three runs scored in Friday's 8-6 win over the Giants. Tovar stuffed the stat sheet in a big way during the come-from-behind win. He walked and stole home in the second inning, belted a two-run homer in the eighth and then swatted a walk-off, two-run homer in the ninth. They were Tovar's third and fourth homers of the season. It's been a tough month at the plate for Tovar, whose average bottomed out at .186 on May 6. Since then, he's 18-for-62 (.290) with three home runs, 11 RBI, eight runs scored, two stolen bases and a 6:14 BB:K across 19 games. He's pushed his season average to .220 with a .614 OPS in what has been a disappointing 2026 campaign for the 24-year-old shortstop. Tovar has an ugly second-percentile 43.9 percent chase rate.

Tovar went 2-for-3 with a solo home run and an additional RBI in a loss to the Dodgers on Monday. Tovar gave Colorado its first lead with a sacrifice fly in the fourth inning. He tacked on a solo homer to provide an insurance run in the seventh, but the Dodgers staged a late comeback to pull off the victory. Monday's long ball was just the second of the season for Tovar through 52 games. The shortstop has had a precipitous power drop, as he went deep 26 times over 157 contests in 2024 and nine times across 95 games last year.

Willi Castro is shifting at shortstop while Brett Sullivan enters the lineup at catcher for Colorado in Sunday's series finale.

Willi Castro is drawing the start at shortstop in Tovar's stead Saturday.

Tovar went 1-for-4 with two RBI and a run scored Wednesday against the Reds. Tovar has had a forgettable start to the season by hitting only .195 with a 29.4 percent strikeout rate. This also marked only the second time in his last eight starts that Tovar managed to record a hit.

Tovar went 2-for-4 with a double, a solo home run and an additional run in a 4-3 win against the Dodgers on Monday. Tovar had both of the Rockies' extra-base hits -- a seventh-inning homer that tied the score and a ninth-inning pop-fly double that led to him crossing the plate with the winning run one batter later. The long ball came against Dodgers All-Star hurler Yoshinobu Yamamoto, who Tovar has pestered to the tune of a 7-for-10 line and two home runs in their head-to-head matchups. Tovar also snapped a 19-game homerless stretch Monday, though he hit well enough with a .276 average and eight doubles during that span.

  • Rockies' Ezequiel Tovar: Kicks off rehab assignment

Tovar (oblique) played five innings at shortstop and went 0-for-3 with two strikeouts in a rehab game with Triple-A Albuquerque on Saturday. According to Manny Randhawa of MLB.com, Tovar is scheduled to play again for Albuquerque on Sunday and Tuesday, but the Rockies haven't mapped out his rehab schedule beyond that. Depending on how he fares with Albuquerque over the next few days, Tovar could return from the IL in advance of the Rockies' final series before the All-Star break next weekend in Cincinnati.

He has not yet resumed taking batting practice and will need to show he can hit pain-free before being cleared for a rehab assignment, but it sound like that should come soon. Tovar has been sidelined since early June with a strained left oblique.
