Adon (biceps) was transferred to the 60-day injured list Friday.

The right-hander landed on the injured list in late August due to a biceps strain, and he won't be eligible to return for the final stretch of the season. Adon made one start in eight appearances with the Nationals this year and posted a 6.75 ERA, 1.50 WHIP and 6:4 K:BB over 10.2 innings.

Young (shoulder) is not in the lineup for Friday's game against the Cubs, Mark Zuckerman of MASNSports.com reports.

Young had to be removed from Thursday's contest after banging up his left shoulder on a slide. The good news is that while the shoulder remains sore, there is no structural damage, so consider Young day-to-day. It's unclear whether the speedy outfielder will be available off the bench. Dylan Crews will shift over to center field for the Nationals on Friday, while Joey Gallo draws the start in right.

The Nationals optioned Brzykcy to Triple-A Rochester on Friday, Mark Zuckerman of MASNSports.com reports.

The rookie reliever is clearing out to make space on the roster for Trevor Williams, who is back from the injured list to start Friday's game against the Cubs. Brzykcy was roughed up for nine runs over 5.2 innings during his brief first stint in the big leagues.

The Nationals activated Williams (elbow) from the 60-day injured list Friday, Mark Zuckerman of MASNSports.com reports.

Williams will rejoin the Nationals' rotation Friday with a start against the Cubs after missing nearly four months of action with a right flexor strain. He threw 73 pitches in his most recent rehab start, so Williams should be only slightly limited Friday from a workload perspective. The veteran righty collected a nifty 2.22 ERA, 1.08 WHIP and 47:16 K:BB across 56.2 innings before getting hurt.

Amaya is not in the lineup for Friday's contest against the Nationals.

Amaya caught each of the last two games but will get a breather during Friday's afternoon tilt. Christian Bethancourt will be behind the dish and bat ninth for the Cubs.

Paredes is not in the lineup for Friday's game against the Nationals.

Paredes was spiked on the left hand in the third inning of Thursday's win over the Nationals. He stayed in and finished the game, but it's possible he's feeling the after effects and that's why he's absent from Friday's lineup. Patrick Wisdom is filling in at third base for the Cubs.

The Cubs designated Armstrong for assignment Friday, Meghan Montemurro of the Chicago Tribune reports.

The Cubs claimed Armstrong after he had been jettisoned from the Cardinals' 40-man roster and the veteran reliever will now go through the waiver process again. Armstrong yielded four runs with a 4:4 K:BB over 7.1 frames during his brief time with the Cubs.

The Cubs activated Wesneski (foreram) from the 15-day injured list Friday, Meghan Montemurro of the Chicago Tribune reports.

Wesneski has been sidelined since late July with a right forearm strain but has been cleared to return after making four rehab appearances with Triple-A Iowa. He's pegged for a multi-inning relief role with the Cubs down the stretch.

Gray said he pitched through some "lingering" soreness during Wednesday's start against the Pirates, Derrick Goold of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports.

Gray didn't divulge any specifics regarding where he's feeling sore, only saying that he "didn't feel great in general, physically" due to "some lingering things just kind of going on through the week." The righty struck out eight and was charged with four runs over 5.2 innings versus the Pirates in Wednesday's outing. Gray will throw a bullpen session this weekend before it's determined whether he'll make one more start or shut things down. If he does make one final start, it's tentatively lined up to come at Coors Field.

Gallo went 1-for-3 with a three-run home run Thursday's loss to the Cubs.

Gallo jumped on a hanging sinker from Drew Smyly in the top of the sixth and launched it into the stands for a three-run shot to give Washington a 6-5 lead. It marked the veteran slugger's third home run this month and the second in his last four games. However, he's still batting a putrid .086 (3-for-35) in September with seven RBI and three runs scored.
