  • Reds' Noelvi Marte: Swats homer in loss

Marte went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Friday's 5-2 loss to the Diamondbacks.

Marte gave Cincinnati an early lead with his second-inning homer. It was the first homer of the season for Marte, who was recently recalled from Triple-A Louisville. He's hit safely in all five starts and appeared in seven contests since returning to the majors, going 6-for-19 with two extra-base hits, one RBI, three steals and three runs scored.

  • Reds' Emilio Pagan: MRI scheduled

Pagan (hamstring) is scheduled to undergo an MRI on Saturday, MLB.com reports.

This is expected to be a check-in for Pagan to see how much healing has taken place. The Reds really need their closer back, as the bullpen lost another game Friday. Pending the results of the MRI, Pagan could begin a rehab assignment next week.

  • Reds' Elly De La Cruz: Hamstring 90 percent healed

Reds manager Terry Francona said Friday that an MRI showed De La Cruz's right hamstring strain to be 90 percent healed, Charlie Clifford of NBC 5 Cincinnati reports.

The Reds will make a decision Sunday on the next steps for De La Cruz, who could need a brief rehab assignment before returning to the active roster. De La Cruz has been sidelined for all of June with his hamstring injury, but fantasy managers could get him back at some point next week.

  • Reds' JJ Bleday: Homers in loss

Bleday went 1-for-3 with two walks, a solo home run and an additional run scored in Wednesday's 5-4 loss to San Diego.

Bleday gave the Reds a lead in the seventh inning with his solo blast, but the team's bullpen coughed it up in the final two frames. The homer was the 11th for Bleday, who's become the Reds' primary left fielder since being called up in late April. Along with his 11 homers, Bleday has driven in 29 runs over 39 contests.

  • Reds' Spencer Steer: Ends hitless stretch

Steer started at second base and went 1-for-5 with a two-run home run in Wednesday's 5-4 loss to the Padres.

Steer snapped an 0-for-17 stretch with his two-run shot in the fourth inning, his 10th of the season. Steer started the season as an outfield regular but has been deployed mostly as an infielder since early May. Wednesday marked his his ninth start at second base and 10th overall at the keystone. He's also appeared in games at both corner-outfield spots, first base and third base.

  • Reds' Eugenio Suarez: Homers Wednesday

Suarez went 2-for-4 with a solo home run in Wednesday's 5-4 loss to the Padres.

Suarez extended the Reds' lead to 4-2 in the eighth inning with his solo shot off Ron Marinaccio, his fifth long ball this year and just his second in his last 24 games. Suarez has gone 3-for-9 with a pair of extra-base hits in his last two contests after going just 3-for-36 (.083) in his previous 10 games. Overall, the veteran is slashing .211/.282/.354 with 18 RBI and 14 runs scored across 163 plate appearances this season.

  • Reds' Brady Singer: Sharp in no-decision

Singer did not factor into the decision Wednesday against the Padres, allowing two runs on six hits and a walk over six innings. He struck out five.

While Singer remains without a win since April 25, Wednesday's outing was certainly a step in the right direction, as he logged his first quality start in his last eight outings. Coming into the day, Singer had struggled to a 6.92 ERA while giving up 12 homers in 26 innings across his previous six outings. Overall, Singer has a 2-6 record with a 5.61 ERA, 1.64 WHIP and 47:20 K:BB in 13 starts (61 innings) this season. He's tentatively lined up to face the Mets at home his next time out.

  • Reds' Elly De La Cruz: Set for infield work, MRI on tap

Reds manager Terry Francona said Wednesday that De La Cruz (hamstring) is scheduled to take part in infield drills for the second day in a row and will undergo a follow-up MRI on Friday, C. Trent Rosecrans of The Athletic reports.

If the MRI reveals that De La Cruz has healed from his right hamstring strain as anticipated, he could increase the intensity of his workouts beginning next week. When De La Cruz was first placed on the shelf June 1, Francona indicated that the star shortstop would likely miss around 2-to-4 weeks, and there's little to suggest that his timeline has changed. Matt McLain has taken over as the Reds' primary shortstop since De La Cruz landed on the shelf, which has opened up more work for Edwin Arroyo and Spencer Steer at the keystone.

  • Reds' Chase Petty: Rejoins Reds in relief role

The Reds recalled Petty from Triple-A Louisville on Wednesday, Gordon Wittenmyer of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports.

Petty will give the bullpen some length after the Reds needed to use six relievers in Tuesday's extra-innings victory over the Padres. The righty has made two starts for Cincinnati this season, yielding seven runs with a 2:3 K:BB over 10.2 innings.

  • Reds' Blake Dunn: Receiving afternoon off

Dunn is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Padres.

The Reds will give Dunn a breather for the day game after a night game, paving the way for Dane Myers to pick up a start in center field. Dunn had started in all 18 of the Reds' games dating back to May 19, slashing .284/.318/.383 with one home run, three stolen bases, nine runs and four RBI during that stretch.

  • Reds' Zach McCambley: Demoted to minors

The Reds optioned McCambley to Triple-A Louisville on Wednesday, Gordon Wittenmyer of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports.

After turning in scoreless showings in his first two major-league appearances, McCambley was touched up for three runs in an inning of work in his last outing Monday in San Diego. His spot on the roster and in the bullpen is being absorbed by Chase Petty.

  • Reds' Edwin Arroyo: Taking seat Wednesday

Arroyo is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Padres.

Since being called up from Triple-A Louisville on June 1, Arroyo has started in six of the Reds' ensuing nine games but hasn't gotten going at the plate. Spencer Steer will get the nod at second base Wednesday over Arroyo, who has begun his big-league career by going 5-for-22 (.227 average) with no extra-base hits and a 2:9 BB:K. He'll need to raise his production if he hopes to stick around with the big club once Elly De La Cruz (hamstring) is ready to return from the injured list.

Stephenson is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Padres.

After starting behind the plate each of the last three days, Stephenson will get a breather while the Reds wrap up their series in San Diego with an afternoon game after a night game. P.J. Higgins will step in at catcher, forming a battery with starting pitcher Brady Singer.
