  • Rangers' Jakob Junis: Reinstated from injured list

The Rangers reinstated Junis (thigh) from the 15-day injured list Saturday. Junis went on the injured list July 30 due to a left adductor strain. He was on the IL for just beyond the minimum and didn't need to embark on a rehab assignment. He'll join the Rangers for the rest of the team's weekend road series against the Athletics, to which he'll bring a 2.70 ERA and 1.08 WHIP across 40 innings this season. Marco Gonzales was designated for assignment in a corresponding move.

  • Rangers' Jakob Junis: Completes bullpen session

Junis (adductor) completed a bullpen session Tuesday, Shawn McFarland of The Dallas Morning News reports. Junis was able to throw roughly 20 pitches during Tuesday's session, and he announced that he will throw another bullpen Thursday. The team is expected to reassess the right-hander's status after Thursday, as he continues to work his way back from a left adductor strain that has sidelined him since July 30. Junis is eligible to be activated from the 15-day injured list Thursday, but a return in late August now appears to be a more realistic goal.

  • Rangers' Jakob Junis: Throws from 90 feet Friday

Junis (adductor) threw out to 90 feet Friday and expects to toss a bullpen session Monday, Shawn McFarland of The Dallas Morning News reports. Junis landed on the 15-day injured list July 30 due to a left adductor strain. The fact that he's throwing suggests that the issue isn't severe, and Junis has said that he's hoping for a quick recovery. However, it's unclear at this point if he'll be ready to return when first eligible Aug. 13.

  • Rangers' Jakob Junis: Shelved by adductor strain

The Rangers placed Junis on the 15-day injured list Thursday with a left adductor strain. It's unclear when or how Junis was injured, but it will cost him at least the next two weeks of action. Junis has been one of the Rangers' best relievers this season, logging a 2.70 ERA and 30:7 K:BB over 40 frames. His spot on the roster and in the bullpen will be taken by Winston Santos.

  • Rangers' Jakob Junis: Activated from IL

The Rangers activated Junis (hip) from the 15-day injured list Saturday. Junis will make his way back after recently being placed on the injured list July 4. Before missing time, the 33-year-old posted a 2.80 ERA, 1.02 WHIP and 27:6 K:BB through 35.1 innings. To make room for Junis on the active roster, Texas optioned Gavin Collyer to Triple-A.

  • Rangers' Jakob Junis: Expected back Saturday

The Rangers are expected to reinstate Junis (hip) from the injured list ahead of Saturday's game against Atlanta, Evan Grant of The Dallas Morning News reports. Junis hasn't pitched since June 29 because of a right hip impingement, but he was with the team during Friday's loss and is now set to rejoin the bullpen Saturday without first heading out on a rehab assignment. The 33-year-old has been one of the most reliable members of Texas' pitching staff this season, posting a 2.80 ERA and 1.02 WHIP across 35.1 innings. He figures to resume working as a setup man for closer Jacob Latz.

  • Rangers' Jakob Junis: Receives injection

Junis received an injection Saturday for the hip impingement that landed him on the injured list, MLB.com reports. Junis, who was bothered by the issue over the prior week, was placed on the injured list Saturday retroactive to July 1. The club is hoping he will be able to return immediately after the All-Star break.

  • Rangers' Jakob Junis: Lands on IL with hip injury

The Rangers placed Junis on the 15-day injured list Saturday, retroactive to Wednesday, due to a right hip impingement. Junis allowed six earned runs across his last seven outings (6.2 innings), and those struggles may have been caused by a lingering hip issue. He won't be eligible to return from the IL until after the All-Star break, though it remains to be seen whether Junis needs a longer stint on the shelf. Right-hander Chris Martin (shoulder) was activated from the 15-day IL in a corresponding move.

  • Rangers' Jakob Junis: Locks down fourth save

Junis earned the save Tuesday against the Cardinals, allowing one hit while striking out one in a scoreless ninth inning. With Jacob Latz working the last two days, Junis was called upon in the ninth inning with a three-run lead and worked around a two-out single by Nelson Velazquez to secure his fourth save of the season and first since April 12. The veteran right-hander continues to provide steady production out of the bullpen, allowing just two runs over his last 17.2 innings. On the year, Junis owns an impressive 1.69 ERA, 0.79 WHIP and 17:5 K:BB across 26.2 innings.

  • Rangers' Jakob Junis: Logs 2.2 innings as opener

Junis (0-1) took the loss Monday, allowing one run on two hits and no walks over 2.2 innings against Arizona. He struck out two. With Nathan Eovaldi (side) scratched, Junis was called upon to start the bullpen game. The right-hander allowed back-to-back one-out doubles to Corbin Carroll and Geraldo Perdomo in the first inning, leading to the lone run in a low-scoring loss. Monday marked just the second appearance this season in which Junis allowed a run, snapping a streak of seven consecutive scoreless outings. Overall, the 33-year-old owns a 1.89 ERA and 0.79 WHIP with a 9:5 K:BB across 19 innings and figures to return to a high-leverage role moving forward, though he hasn't been called upon for a save since April 12 with Jacob Latz seizing the closer role.

  • Rangers' Jakob Junis: Working as opener Monday

Junis will serve as the Rangers' opening pitcher for Monday's game against the Diamondbacks, Jeff Wilson of AllDLLS.com reports. Junis will be called upon to start on short notice after Nathan Eovaldi (side) was a late scratch for his scheduled turn through the rotation. Though he's made 116 career starts in the big leagues, Junis has worked exclusively as a reliever since the start of the 2025 season and may not be asked to cover more than 1-to-3 innings Monday. Cal Quantrill will be available out of the bullpen on two days' rest and could be an option to cover multiple innings once Junis exits the game.

  • Rangers' Jakob Junis: Secures third save

Junis picked up the save in Sunday's 5-2 victory over the Dodgers. He allowed no hits and a walk while striking out two over a scoreless inning. Junis was called upon to close Sunday's contest and did so successfully, allowing just a one-out walk to Will Smith en route to securing his third save of the season. It's been a stellar start to the campaign for the veteran right-hander, who has yet to allow a run through eight innings of work. The Rangers have been operating with a closer-by-committee approach, but Junis is emerging as a top ninth-inning option, converting a save in each of his past three appearances.

  • Guardians' Jakob Junis: Avoids injury

Junis allowed one hit and struck out one over two scoreless innings in Monday's 11-1 loss to the Twins. Junis, who entered after starter Gavin Williams lasted just two innings, took a comebacker off his left quad in the third inning. He was down for a brief time while trainers assessed the right-hander and was deemed fit to continue. He got out of that inning and set down the side in order in the fourth. Junis has been a useful arm out of the bullpen, posting a 1.93 ERA with just one walk over 14 innings.

  • Guardians' Jakob Junis: Adds versatility for CLE

Junis signed a one-year, $4.5 million contract with the Guardians on Thursday, Kiley McDaniel of ESPN.com reports. Junis has worked primarily in relief for each of the last two seasons and was particularly impressive across 67 innings in 2024 by maintaining a 2.69 ERA and 0.85 WHIP. He's unlikely to crack the Guardians' rotation to begin the season, but he's likely to see some spot starts while primarily filling a multi-inning relief role.

  • Reds' Jakob Junis: Allows two runs in no-decision

Junis did not factor into the decision in Wednesday's 5-2 loss to the Guardians, allowing two runs on four hits and one walk with three strikeouts over five innings. Junis shook off a leadoff homer by Steven Kwan and mostly pitched well, throwing 48 of 72 pitches for strikes. The 32-year-old has completed at least five innings while yielding two earned runs or fewer in each of his last four starts. He'll finish the season with a 2.69 ERA, 0.85 WHIP and 51:8 K:BB across 67 innings with the Brewers and Reds.

  • Reds' Jakob Junis: Start pushed back to Wednesday

Junis has been scratched from Tuesday's start versus the Guardians due to personal reasons and will start Wednesday's series finale in Cleveland instead, Charlie Goldsmith of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports. Carson Spiers is now scheduled to start Tuesday, with Junis getting an extra day in between starts. Junis has been terrific over the last month for the Reds, allowing just three runs with an 18:1 K:BB over 23.2 innings covering four starts and one relief appearance.

  • Reds' Jakob Junis: Sharp again in no-decision

Junis didn't factor into the decision Thursday against the Cardinals, allowing one run on three hits over five innings. He struck out three. Masyn Winn's home run in the third inning was the lone mark on Junis' line Thursday. The right-hander's been excellent in his last two starts with Cincinnati, allowing just one run on four hits over 10 innings, though he's ultimately come away with no-decisions in both outings. Overall, Junis is 4-0 on the season with a 2.73 ERA, 0.89 WHIP and 42:7 K:BB across 56 innings between the Reds and Brewers. He's currently lined up for a home matchup with Atlanta next week.

  • Reds' Jakob Junis: Strong start wasted Saturday

Junis came away with a no-decision in Saturday's 4-0 loss to the Mets, allowing one hit and one walk over five scoreless innings. He struck out five. The veteran right-hander was locked in a pitchers' duel with Jose Quintana, but the Reds bullpen fell apart as soon as Junis exited the game. His 73 pitches and five innings both represented high marks this season, and Junis has been exceptional in his swingman role lately, posting a 1.23 ERA, 0.50 WHIP and 17:1 K:BB in 22 innings over his last nine appearances (two starts) since Aug. 7. Junis will look for his first win since July 28 in his next trip to the mound, which lines up to come on the road next week in St. Louis.

  • Reds' Jakob Junis: Piggybacks Williamson on Sunday

Junis covered 3.2 innings in relief in Sunday's 4-3 win over the Brewers in 11 innings, giving up one earned run on two hits and no walks. He struck out one batter. Junis tossed four scoreless innings in his first start as a member of the Reds his last time out Tuesday against the Athletics, but he shifted back to the bullpen Sunday while the Reds added Brandon Williamson (shoulder) to the rotation. Since Williamson (66 pitches, 3.1 innings) wasn't fully stretched out in his return from the 60-day injured list, Junis (62) ended up taking on a similar workload while piggybacking him. Even with Williamson's return, the Reds still have only four healthy starters at the moment, so Junis could be needed for a spot start or bulk-relief appearance during next weekend's series with the Mets.
... See More ... See Less
  • Brewers' Jakob Junis: Scoops up win in relief

Junis improved to 3-0 on the season after striking out a batter and working around one hit and one walk over three scoreless innings of relief in Wednesday's 3-2 win over the Cubs. The Brewers essentially deployed two bulk relievers as part of their bullpen game Wednesday. Opening pitcher Rob Zastryzny covered the first inning and gave up one run, with Bryse Wilson following him with four innings of one-run ball before Junis took the hill in the bottom of the sixth. With the Brewers breaking a 2-2 tie on Willson Contreras' RBI double in the top of the ninth, Junis was credited with the win when Joel Payamps came on in the bottom of the inning to close the game. Junis has now scooped up wins in three of his last four multi-inning relief appearances, but the Brewers don't seem compelled to have him fill the open spot in their five-man rotation. Instead, the club looks content to get by with bullpen days when a fifth starter is needed until one of Joe Ross (back) or DL Hall (knee/forearm) is ready to return from the 60-day injured list.
