Dodgers' Paul Gervase: Recalled by Dodgers

The Dodgers recalled Gervase from Triple-A Oklahoma City on Wednesday.

Gervase will join the Dodgers' bullpen while Alexis Diaz was optioned to Triple-A in a corresponding move. Gervase was acquired by the Dodgers from the Rays in late July and has appeared in five games for Oklahoma City, where he's posted a 2.08 ERA and 0.85 WHIP over 8.2 innings. He pitched in five major-league games for Tampa Bay before being traded and had a 4.26 ERA and 1.74 WHIP across 6.1 frames.

  • Chase Shugart RP | PHI

Pirates' Chase Shugart: Sent to Triple-A

The Pirates optioned Shugart to Triple-A Indianapolis after Wednesday's win against the Blue Jays.

The right-hander has been a quality bullpen piece for Pittsburgh this year with a 3.50 ERA, 1.15 WHIP and 29:17 K:BB across 43.2 innings, but he'll lose his place on the big-league roster with top prospect Bubba Chandler set to be promoted. • Kyle Karros 3B | COL

Rockies' Kyle Karros: Dealing with back tightness

Rockies interim manager Warren Schaeffer said that Karros is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Dodgers due to back tightness, Patrick Lyons of JustBaseball.com reports.

The injury doesn't appear to be severe and Karros should be considered day-to-day for the time being. He'll be available off the bench as an emergency option while Orlando Arcia starts at third base and bats eighth. Karros has gone 10-for-37 (.270 average) with one home run, five RBI and 10 runs in 12 games since being called up from Triple-A Albuquerque on Aug. 8.

Brewers' Chad Patrick: Returns to Triple-A

The Brewers returned Patrick to Triple-A Nashville on Wednesday.

The right-hander started Game 1 of Tuesday's doubleheader against the Cubs and was charged with the loss after giving up five runs (three earned) across five innings. Patrick has a respectable 3.61 ERA, 1.30 WHIP and 99:33 K:BB across 99.2 innings this season, but he isn't likely to see more than a spot start or two for the Brewers down the stretch if the big-league rotation stays healthy.

  • Brewers' Carlos Rodriguez: Rejoins big club

The Brewers recalled Rodriguez from Triple-A Nashville on Wednesday.

Rodriguez made one appearance for the Brewers earlier this season and surrendered three earned runs over 3.1 innings, and he's back with the big club ahead of Wednesday's game against the Cubs. He's worked out of the rotation with Nashville this year and has a 4.10 ERA, 1.41 WHIP and 70:30 K:BB across 63.2 innings.

  • Padres' Xander Bogaerts: Sitting Wednesday

  • Padres' Jackson Merrill: Still out of lineup

Merrill (ankle) is not in the Padres' starting lineup against the Giants on Wednesday.

Merrill will be out of the Padres' lineup for a third consecutive game while working through a left ankle injury that he has been dealing with since Friday. Gavin Sheets, Ramon Laureano and Fernando Tatis will start in the outfield from left to right in Merrill's absence.

  • Tobias Myers RP | NYM

Brewers' Tobias Myers: Sent to Triple-A

The Brewers optioned Myers to Triple-A Nashville on Wednesday.

Myers covered two scoreless frames out of the bullpen in Game 1 of Tuesday's doubleheader and will head to the minors in favor of a fresh relief arm. The right-hander made three appearances in long relief since a spot start Aug. 9 against the Mets, and he's likely to continue working out of the bullpen if he rejoins the Brewers later in the season.

  • Mookie Betts SS | LAD

Dodgers' Mookie Betts: Taking seat Wednesday

Betts is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Rockies.

Betts started the previous 21 games and has an .865 OPS in his past 54 at-bats, but he will receive Wednesday off in Colorado, Miguel Rojas will step in at shortstop and bat eighth versus Rockies righty Tanner Gordon.

  • Caleb Durbin 3B | BOS

    Brewers' Caleb Durbin: Sitting Wednesday

Durbin is not in the Brewers' starting lineup against the Cubs on Wednesday.

Durbin -- who has started each of the Brewers' last six games -- will be on the bench for the beginning of Wednesday's contest while Anthony Seigler starts at third bast and bats sixth. Durbin has a .671 OPS with three steals, six doubles, three homers and 10 RBI over 101 plate appearances since the All-Star break.
