  • Mets' Brett Baty: Hitting bench against righty

Baty is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Padres. Though he'll take a seat against righty Walker Buehler in the series opener, Baty has maintained a strong-side platoon role for much of August. Baty doesn't have a home at any one position, but his ability to play multiple spots on the diamond and in the outfield had helped him pick up starts in each of the Mets' previous eight matchups with righties.

  • Mets' Brett Baty: Launches grand slam in win

Baty went 1-for-3 with a grand slam and a walk in Monday's 8-5 win over Atlanta. Baty broke things open in the first inning with his first career grand slam off Bryce Elder. The 26-year-old Baty has gone just 4-for-27 over his past 10 games, but two of those hits have left the yard. On the season, he's slashing .215/.286/.330 with eight homers, 38 RBI, 42 runs scored and five steals across 379 plate appearances.

  • Mets' Brett Baty: Goes deep Wednesday

Baty went 1-for-3 with a solo home run in Wednesday's 6-5 win over the Guardians. Baty, who was making his first start in four games, opened the scoring in the third inning with an opposite-field shot off Tanner Bibee, his seventh homer of the year. Baty had gone just 3-for-22 (.136) in eight games prior to Wednesday as he'd seen his playing time diminish with the returns of Luis Robert and Jorge Polanco. Overall, Baty's slashing .219/.290/.330 across 362 plate appearances this season with 41 runs scored, 32 RBI and five stolen bases.

  • Mets' Brett Baty: Heading to bench Sunday

Baty is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Marlins. Baty will hit the bench Sunday after he made starts at three different infield positions in the previous three games. The 26-year-old doesn't have a clear path to steady playing time at any one position, but his ability to play all over the infield as well as both corner outfield spots should allow him to continue seeing semi-regular at-bats versus right-handed pitching.

  • Mets' Brett Baty: Starts Wednesday, but could lose PT

Baty will start in right field and bat eighth in Wednesday's game against the Brewers. With Juan Soto and Luis Robert resting for the series finale in Milwaukee, Baty will pick up a start in the outfield alongside A.J. Ewing and Carson Benge. Robert's return from the IL earlier this week looks like it could result in Baty fading into more of a part-time role, as the Mets already sent the 26-year-old to the bench against right-hander Brandon Sproat during Tuesday's 4-0 win. Baty has produced a palatable .273/.293/.436 slash line thus far in July, but he's still holding down an underwhelming .614 OPS over 340 plate appearances on the season.

  • Mets' Brett Baty: On bench versus lefty

Baty is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Cubs. Baty will head to the bench along with fellow left-handed batters MJ Melendez and Jared Young while the Cubs send southpaw Shota Imanaga to the bump for the series opener. With Baty taking a seat, Bo Bichette will shift over to third base and Zack Short will enter the lineup at shortstop.

  • Mets' Brett Baty: Idle against southpaw

Baty is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Reds. The left-handed hitter will retreat to the bench in the series finale, ceding his spot to the newly acquired Zack Short, with Bo Bichette shifting back to third base from shortstop while the Reds send lefty Nick Lodolo to the bump. While starting each of the Mets' last three games, Baty was able to get on base seven times, but he's still slashing an underwhelming .226/.303/.318 on the season. He could fade into a part-time role once the Mets get Francisco Lindor (calf) back from the injured list.

  • Mets' Brett Baty: Mired in slump

Baty went 0-for-4 with three strikeouts in Monday's loss to the Reds. The 26-year-old continues to get regular starts at third base while the Mets cover for the absence of Francisco Lindor (calf) and other infielders, but Baty has done little with the opportunity. He hasn't homered in 24 straight games, slashing just .211/.277/.237 over that stretch with two doubles, five runs, six RBI and a 28.9 percent strikeout rate that would be a career-worst mark. Lindor is ramping up his activity level and is expected back before the end of the month, and his return should bump Bo Bichette back to third base and send Baty back to the bench, or potentially even Triple-A Syracuse.

  • Mets' Brett Baty: Extends hit streak with homer

Baty went 2-for-6 with a home run, two runs scored and three RBI in Monday's extra-innings win over the Nationals. The 26-year-old launched a solo shot off Jake Irvin in the fourth inning before getting in on the fun during the Mets' 10-run eruption in the top of the 12th with a two-run single. Baty's long ball was just his third of the season, but two of them have come during his current seven-game hitting streak, a stretch that has seen him hit .345 (10-for-29) with a double, four runs and seven RBI.

  • Mets' Brett Baty: Exiting lineup Wednesday

Baty is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Twins. Though he had been included in the lineup in each of the Mets' last six games while the team went up against right-handed starting pitchers, the left-handed-hitting Baty will take a seat while southpaw Connor Prielipp toes the rubber for Minnesota. With Juan Soto (calf) making his return from the injured list Wednesday, the Mets may only have one spot available in the lineup moving forward for either Baty and Carson Benge when the team faces right-handers. Both players have struggled to produce at the plate through the first four weeks of the season, with Baty owning a .498 OPS and Benge generating a .416 OPS.

  • Mets' Brett Baty: Doubles, plates run

Baty went 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI in Wednesday's loss to the Diamondbacks. Baty opened the season with a four-game hitting streak, and now he's hit safely in four of his last five as well. He's seeing the ball well of late, but that hasn't translated to a lot of production from a fantasy perspective. Despite hitting .275 through his first 40 plate appearances, he sports a .668 OPS with no homers, three doubles, a triple, six RBI, six runs scored and a 11:0 K:BB.

  • Mets' Brett Baty: Good to go Tuesday

Baty (thumb) is starting in right field and batting fifth Tuesday against the Diamondbacks. Baty sat out Sunday's matchup with the Giants due to a jammed thumb, which he sustained on a slide during Saturday's contest. The 26-year-old, who has a .242/.242/.364 slash line with no homers and one steal through 33 plate appearances this year, is ready for action after taking Monday's team off day to recover from the injury.

  • Mets' Brett Baty: Absent from starting nine

Baty is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Cardinals. After taking a seat against Cardinals righty Andre Pallante in Tuesday's 3-0 loss, the left-handed-hitting Baty will remain on the bench as St. Louis sends southpaw Matthew Liberatore to the bump for the series finale. Mark Vientos will stick in the starting nine in Baty's place, manning first base and batting sixth.

  • Mets' Brett Baty: Draws Opening Day start at DH

Baty will start at designated hitter and bat sixth in Thursday's opener against the Pirates. With righty Paul Skenes on the bump, the left-handed-hitting Baty gets the call over righty-swinging Mark Vientos. Baty is also likely to see starts at first base against right-handed pitching, but Jorge Polanco is getting his first career start there Thursday.

  • Mets' Brett Baty: In Saturday's lineup

Baty (hamstring) will start at first base and bat fourth in Saturday's Grapefruit League game against the Nationals. Baty tweaked his hamstring during an offseason workout shortly before the start of spring training, but he's now been cleared to begin playing in exhibition games. Now that he's healthy, the 26-year-old is expected to compete with top prospect Carson Benge for the starting job in right field this spring. If Baty loses the battle, he will likely still make the Opening Day roster as a utility man.

  • Mets' Brett Baty: Placed on IL

The Mets placed Baty on the 10-day injured list Saturday due to a right oblique strain. Baty departed Friday's game with pain in his side, and further testing revealed he's dealing with a strained right oblique. The Mets are still in the mix for the NL's final Wild Card spot, but they'll have to chase a postseason berth without Baty. The third baseman will be eligible for reinstatement Oct. 7, though it's unclear if he'll require more than the minimum stay. Jared Young was recalled from Triple-A Syracuse in a corresponding move.

  • Mets' Brett Baty: Goes yard Thursday

Baty went 2-for-4 with a three-run home run and a second run scored in Thursday's 8-5 win over the Cubs. Baty's fourth-inning blast was ultimately the difference, as it gave the Mets a 6-0 lead before the Cubs attempted to push back. The third baseman has had an inconsistent September, collecting multiple hits in just three of his 19 games this month. He's batting a decent .276 (16-for-58) in that span, and he's now at a .255/.314/.436 slash line with 18 homers, 50 RBI, 53 runs scored and eight stolen bases across 129 contests this season.

  • Mets' Brett Baty: Sitting again versus lefty

Baty is not in the lineup for Wednesday's contest in Philadelphia. The left-handed-hitting Baty has now been out of the lineup each of the last five times the Mets have faced a southpaw. He hadn't previously been in a strict platoon, but the Mets are changing things up as they hope to awaken a dormant offense. Mark Vientos will play third base Wednesday while Starling Marte occupies the designated hitter slot.

  • Mets' Brett Baty: Power surge continues

Baty went 1-for-3 with a walk and a solo home run in Wednesday's 5-4 loss to the Nationals. Starting at third base and batting seventh, Baty took Brad Lord deep in the fifth inning to get the Mets on the board as they attempted to rally from an early 4-0 deficit. Baty has homered four times in his last eight games, hitting .370 (10-for-27) over that stretch with a steal, six runs and six RBI while seizing an everyday role in the lineup between the hot corner and the keystone.

  • Mets' Brett Baty: Swipes bag in win

Baty went 2-for-3 with two runs scored and a stolen base in Saturday's 3-1 win over the Mariners. Baty singled twice and came around to score the Mets' first two runs, adding a stolen base in the seventh inning. The 25-year-old is 9-for-25 through nine August contests with three multi-hit efforts, two home runs, four RBI and seven runs scored in that span. For the season, he's slashing .239/.297/.421 with 13 homers, 38 RBI, 36 runs scored and six steals across 314 plate appearances.
