  • Mets' Mark Vientos: Losing out on playing time

Vientos is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Cardinals. Vientos will head to the bench for the fifth time in six games and appears to have lost his grip on a regular role while he's mustered a .128/.146/.213 slash line over his last 15 games. Jared Young has displaced Vientos as the Mets' preferred option at first base.

  • Mets' Mark Vientos: Not in Sunday's lineup

Vientos is not in the Mets' starting lineup against the Padres on Sunday. Vientos will be on the bench for the start of Sunday's game after going 0-for-4 with three strikeouts in Saturday's 3-2 loss to San Diego. Jared Young will start at first base while Juan Soto serves as the designated hitter.

  • Mets' Mark Vientos: Competing for playing time

Vientos will have to continue competing for at-bats with Jared Young and MJ Melendez, Laura Albanese of Newsday reports. The recent emergence of Young in particular has already started to cost Vientos playing time in the first few days of June. Vientos also hasn't helped his cause by mustering just a .125 average (4-for-32) over his last 10 games dating back to May 24. Manager Carlos Mendoza labels the situation a "healthy competition," and he did afford Vientos a start at designated hitter Saturday.

  • Mets' Mark Vientos: Out of Friday's lineup

Vientos isn't in the lineup for Friday's game against the Padres. Vientos will retreat to the bench for the third time in New York's last four games after posting just a .494 OPS across his last 10 contests. Jared Young will make another start at first base in Vientos' stead.

  • Mets' Mark Vientos: Sitting again Wednesday

Vientos is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Mariners. Vientos will head to the bench for the second time in the three-game series with Seattle while he's mired in extended slump at the dish. Over his last 12 games, Vientos has slashed .146/.167/.244 while drawing no walks and striking out at a 26.2 percent clip. The Mets will go with Jared Young at first base in place of Vientos on Wednesday.

  • Mets' Mark Vientos: Goes deep against Miami

Vientos went 1-for-4 with a solo home run during the Mets' 9-7 extra-inning win over the Marlins on Friday. Vientos extended the Mets' lead to 5-1 in the third inning after taking Max Meyer deep to left-center field for a solo home run. It was the seventh long ball of the year for Vientos, five of which have come over his last 24 games since May 3. He is slashing .224/.261/.391 with 24 RBI and 15 extra-base hits over 184 plate appearances this season.

  • Mets' Mark Vientos: Swats fifth homer in Friday's win

Vientos went 2-for-4 with a double, a solo home run, two RBI and one run scored in Friday's 3-1 win over the Diamondbacks. Vientos led off the top of the second inning with a solo shot, his fifth of the season, taking Ryne Nelson deep on a slider. He then led off the top of the 10th inning with what proved to be a game-winning RBI double. Vientos has three long balls and eight RBI in six games this month and is slashing .240/.287/.440 with five homers, 16 RBI, 11 runs scored and a 7:24 BB:K across 108 plate appearances this season.

  • Mets' Mark Vientos: Two more RBI in Monday's win

Vientos went 1-for-4 with two RBI in Monday's win over the Rockies. While he didn't have much to show for it, Vientos was scorching the ball all afternoon, and two of his outs left his bat with exit velocities over 100 mph. The 26-year-old is slashing .273/.333/.523 over his last 13 games with two doubles, three homers, five runs and nine RBI as he turns things around after a slow start to the campaign.

  • Mets' Mark Vientos: Goes deep twice Sunday

Vientos went 2-for-4 with a pair of two-run homers in Sunday's win over the Angels. Vientos powered the Mets' offense, getting the club on the board with a two-run blast in the fourth inning before extending the lead in the ninth frame with another two-run shot. It marked the 26-year-old's first multi-homer game of the season and his first long ball since April 18. After a brutal cold spell in the middle of April, Vientos may be starting to heat up, with his OPS up to .737 across 26 contests after entering Sunday's game at .650.

  • Mets' Mark Vientos: Playing regularly at first base

Vientos will start at first base and bat cleanup in Thursday's game against the Nationals. Vientos appeared to fade into a part-time role a couple of weeks ago, but he's re-emerged as a more stable member of the lineup since Jorge Polanco (wrist) was placed on the injured list April 18. Vientos will claim his ninth start in 11 games Thursday, despite producing a lackluster .231/.333/.346 slash line to go with one home run and two RBI over the prior 10 contests.

  • Cubs' Jameson Taillon: Sharp in first win of year

Taillon (1-1) picked up the win Saturday, allowing one run on five hits and three walks over six innings in a 4-2 victory over the Mets. He struck out four. The veteran right-hander delivered his second quality start of the season on 100 pitches (61 strikes), and the only blemish on his line was a Mark Vientos solo shot in the second inning. Taillon has given the Cubs six innings in three straight trips to the mound, and he'll take a 3.97 ERA, 1.28 WHIP and 21:9 K:BB through 22.2 innings into his next outing, which is set to come on the road next weekend against the Dodgers.

  • Mets' Mark Vientos: Settling into full-time role

Vientos will start at first base and bat sixth in Wednesday's game against the Diamondbacks. Vientos will remain in the starting nine for an eighth straight contest after going 9-for-23 with a home run, two doubles, five runs and two RBI over the previous seven games. Though he had been limited to a short-side platoon role to begin the season, Vientos should be in line for a regular spot in the lineup versus both left- and right-handed pitching while Juan Soto (calf) is on the injured list.

  • Mets' Mark Vientos: Absent from Opening Day lineup

Vientos is not in the lineup for Thursday's opener versus the Pirates. With right-hander Paul Skenes on the bump for the Pirates, the Mets will go with Jorge Polanco at first base and the left-handed-hitting Brett Baty at designated hitter. The right-handed-hitting Vientos is unlikely to be a strict short-side platoon bat, but he could sit regularly against tougher righties.

  • Mets' Mark Vientos: Connects for first spring homer

Vientos went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Saturday's split-squad game against the Nationals. Getting the start at first base and batting second, Vientos took Gus Varland deep in the eighth inning for his first long ball of the spring, but he also struck out against PJ Poulin in the sixth. Vientos appears to have a spot on the Opening Day bench locked up, but with only two hits in 35 at-bats during Grapefruit League action (.057 batting average) and a 1:7 BB:K, the 26-year-old appears to be a long way from regular playing time.

  • Mets' Mark Vientos: Receiving Sunday off

Vientos is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Reds. With Brett Baty occupying third base and Juan Soto filling the designated-hitter spot, Vientos will exit the lineup for the first time since Aug. 16. While starting the previous 19 games, Vientos slashed .310/.390/.761 with nine home runs, 24 RBI and 16 runs.

  • Mets' Mark Vientos: Extends hitting streak to 10 games

Vientos went 2-for-4 with a home run and three RBI in Wednesday's 6-0 win over the Phillies. It was Vientos' seventh game of the year with at least three RBI, and he also swatted his 13th homer of the season. The 25-year-old slugger's .723 OPS in 2025 is disappointing after he posted an .838 OPS in the 2024 regular season, though he's now riding a 10-game hitting streak. During that span, Vientos is batting .395 with six big flies, four doubles and 17 RBI over his last 38 at-bats.

  • Mets' Mark Vientos: Remains on bench Tuesday

Vientos remains out of the lineup for Tuesday's game against Atlanta. Vientos hasn't started three of the Mets' past four contests and appears to be falling into a reserve role, as Brett Baty is starting at third and batting ninth Tuesday while Starling Marte handles DH duties in the sixth spot in the order. Vientos has a .191/.269/.191 slash line across 11 at-bats over the last seven days.

  • Mets' Mark Vientos: Heading to bench amid poor stretch

Vientos is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Brewers. Vientos will head to the bench for the second time in the series while the Mets go with Jeff McNeil at designated hitter, Brett Baty at second base and Ronny Mauricio at third base. Since swatting a grand slam July 28, Vientos has fallen into a skid at the plate, posting a .526 OPS over his last eight contests.

  • Mets' Mark Vientos: Slugs grand slam in loss

Vientos went 2-for-4 with a grand slam in a loss to the Padres on Monday. It could have actually been a bigger game for Vientos -- he was robbed of a homer by Fernando Tatis in the fourth inning. When Vientos next came to the plate with the bases loaded in the fifth, he ensured Tatis couldn't rob him again, smashing a 385-foot shot to clear the bases. The long ball ended a lengthy power drought for Vientos, whose previous home run had come May 28, a span of 23 games. Vientos now has seven homers over 74 contests this year, well off the pace of the 27 home runs he belted across 111 regular-season games in 2024.

  • Mets' Mark Vientos: Key double in win

Vientos went 1-for-3 with a two-RBI double in Saturday's 2-1 win over the Giants. Vientos made his lone hit count Saturday, delivering a two-run double in the sixth inning that provided all the offense the Mets needed in their 2-1 win. It's been a rocky follow-up to his breakout 2024 campaign, but the third baseman is currently riding a six-game hitting streak and has doubled in back-to-back games. This season, he's slashing .226/.280/.358 with 20 extra-base hits and 27 RBI over 74 games. By comparison, through his first 74 regular-season games last year, Vientos had a .275/.333/.557 line with 36 extra-base hits (17 doubles, 19 homers) and 48 RBI.
