  • Cardinals' Matt Pushard: Decision looming

The Cardinals must decide soon whether to return Pushard (knee) to the active roster or expose the Rule 5 pick to waivers, Derrick Goold of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports. Pushard -- who is coming back from right knee tendinitis -- checked off what could be the final box on his rehab assignment checklist Sunday with the second of back-to-back appearances at Triple-A Memphis. He's pitched well over his last five rehab outings, yielding a total of one run with an 8:3 K:BB covering six innings. If the Rule 5 pick is added back to St. Louis' active roster, he'll be used in a low-leverage relief role.

  • Cardinals' Matt Pushard: Several more rehab appearances

Cardinals manager Oliver Marmol said Saturday that Pushard (knee) will need "several more" rehab appearances at Triple-A Memphis before being activated from the 10-day injured list, Daniel Guerrero of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports. Pushard, who was a Rule 5 pick, has made six rehab appearances so far, allowing six runs (four earned) with a 2:3 K:BB over 6.2 innings. Marmol said that Pushard's future outings will mimic how he's expected to be used in the majors, which will likely include some multi-inning appearances. Pushard's 30-day rehab window will run out in mid-May, so the team will have to make a decision at that point whether to activate him. The 28-year-old is working his way back from right knee tendinitis.

  • Cardinals' Matt Pushard: Cleared for rehab assignment

Pushard (knee) will head to Triple-A Memphis on Tuesday to begin a rehab assignment, Jeff Jones of the Belleville News-Democrat reports. Pushed tossed a 20-pitch bullpen session Sunday and came out of it with no issues, clearing the way for him to pitch in rehab games. The rookie reliever is working his way back from right knee patellar tendinitis.

  • Cardinals' Matt Pushard: Nearing rehab assignment

Pushard (knee) tossed a 20-pitch bullpen session at full intensity Sunday, Jeff Jones of the Belleville News-Democrat reports. Pushard threw at about 75 percent effort in his last side session Thursday, so he's taken another marginal step forward in his recovery from right knee patellar tendinitis. The rookie right-hander is expected to throw a live batting practice session in the coming days and could then head out on a minor-league rehab assignment later in the week.

  • Cardinals' Matt Pushard: Back on mound Thursday

Pushard (knee) will throw a 20-pitch bullpen session Thursday at moderate intensity, Derrick Goold of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports. Pushard threw lightly off the mound earlier this week and will up the intensity level Thursday. Working his way back from right knee patellar tendinitis, Pushard is likely to need some rehab appearances before rejoining the Cardinals' bullpen.

  • Cardinals' Matt Pushard: Goes on IL with knee tendinitis

The Cardinals placed Pushard on the 15-day injured list Tuesday with right knee patellar tendinitis. Pushard got knocked around in his major-league debut over the weekend, allowing three runs in an inning of work against the Rays, and now the reliever will miss at least the next two weeks of action. The Rule 5 pick was replaced on the roster and in the bullpen by Gordon Graceffo.

  • Cardinals' Matt Pushard: Makes Opening Day roster

The Cardinals have informed Pushard that he will be on the Opening Day roster, Derrick Goold of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports. A Rule 5 pick, Pushard was slowed by illness early on in camp, but he's since rebounded and holds a 3.12 ERA and 9:2 K:BB over 8.2 frames during Grapefruit League play. In order for the Cardinals to maintain his rights, Pushard must remain on the major-league roster or injured list the entire season, with at least 90 days spent on the active roster and not the IL. The 28-year-old is expected to fill a low-leverage role in the bullpen.
