McLain went 3-for-5 with a walk and a run scored in Friday's 9-0 victory over the Cubs.

All three knocks were singles in the first three-hit game of the rookie's career. The shortstop has been a consistent offensive threat since being called up in mid-May, hitting safely in eight of his first 10 big-league games. Over his last five appearances, McLain has totaled nine hits (four for extra bases), five RBI, three walks and six runs scored across 24 at-bats. For the moment, he appears to be the Reds' everyday shortstop, as Jose Barrero has started playing more outfield with Wil Myers (illness) on the injured list.

Correa (foot/heel) is in the Twins' lineup Friday versus the Blue Jays, Do-Hyoung Park of MLB.com reports.

Correa has been sidelined for much of this week due to foot and heel discomfort, but after a pregame workout he felt good enough to give it a go in the series opener against Toronto. Given the diagnosis -- plantar fasciitis along with a muscle strain in the arch of his left foot -- more days off for rest and treatment should be expected even as Correa manages to avoid the injured list.

Crawford isn't starting Friday against the Brewers, Maria I. Guardado of MLB.com reports.

Crawford's .575 OPS on the season has now caused him to miss three of the Giants' last four games. In his place, the team will opt to start the much hotter bat of Casey Schmitt, who will hit seventh.

Twins manager Rocco Baldelli said Friday that he's optimistic Correa (foot) will be able to avoid the injured list, Aaron Gleeman of The Athletic reports.

Correa hasn't played since Monday due to plantar fasciitis in his left heel and a muscle strain in the arch of the same foot, but Baldelli's comments suggest that the star shortstop could be back in action sometime during Minnesota's three-game weekend series against the Blue Jays. The issue is something Correa might have to manage for the rest of the season.

Wendle isn't starting Friday against the Angels, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports.

Wendle holds a .598 OPS against southpaws over the last three seasons, so he will retreat to the bench Friday against Reid Detmers and the Angels. Jon Berti will fill in as the Marlins' shortstop and bat leadoff.

Duran (rib) remains out of the lineup for Friday's game in Baltimore.

Duran will miss a second straight contest as he battles rib cage soreness. He is considered day-to-day. Robbie Grossman will be the Rangers' designated hitter Friday and Josh Smith will cover left field.

Chang (wrist) began a rehab assignment with Double-A Portland on Friday, Pete Abraham of The Boston Globe reports.

Chang's rehab assignment was delayed due to soreness in his surgically repaired left wrist, but he's now ready to test things out in game action. He's been sidelined for the last month but could be ready to return by next week.

Brito was promoted from High-A Lake County to Double-A Akron on Friday.

Brito had a solid 35-game stint at High-A, slashing .265/.379/.424 with four home runs, three stolen bases, 14 RBI and 29 runs scored over 161 plate appearances. The Guardians decided it was time for him to take the next step, and it's likely he'll spend much of the rest of 2023 with Akron.

Bogaerts went 1-for-5 with an RBI, a run scored and a steal in Thursday's 8-6 win over the Nationals.

Boegarts is now 5-for-5 on stolen base attempts this season, putting him three shy of his total from last year. The Padres' shortstop has struggled in May after getting off to a red-hot start with San Diego. He's now slashing .179/.273/.256 with one home run in 20 games this month. Through 213 plate appearances this season, Boegarts is batting .254 with a .752 OPS, seven home runs and 19 RBI.

Mauricio might get called up to take over the starting job at second base with the Mets, Will Sammon of The Athletic reports.

The 22-year-old's .348/.384/.586 slash line at Triple-A this season makes a good case for promotion all on its own, but the Mets are also getting little production out of the left field duo of Mark Canha and Tommy Pham. Moving Jeff McNeil out to left on a full-time basis would then open up the keystone for Mauricio, adding another top prospect to a Mets youth movement that already features Francisco Alvarez at catcher, Brett Baty at third base and Mark Vientos in a utility/DH role.
