  • Reds' Elly De La Cruz: Begins rehab assignment

De La Cruz (hamstring) went 2-for-2 with a walk and a home run for Triple-A Louisville on Friday. De La Cruz kicked off a rehab assignment Friday, and as planned, played five innings at shortstop. The next step, according to Brent Maguire of MLB.com, is a full game Saturday as the designated hitter followed by nine innings at shortstop Sunday. De La Cruz could rejoin the Reds at some point next week.

  • Reds' Elly De La Cruz: Ramping up recovery work

De La Cruz (hamstring) is scheduled to begin running Tuesday and Wednesday, and he will begin a rehab assignment Friday with Triple-A Gwinnett, C. Trent Rosecrans of The Athletic reports. After landing on the injured list June 1, De La Cruz is slated to begin physical activities Tuesday. The 24-year-old is expected to begin his rehab assignment with five innings of action Friday, a start at DH on Saturday and taking the field at shortstop Sunday for the Triple-A team. With De La Cruz's hamstring nearly 90 percent healed, the shortstop is much closer to joining the big-league club.

  • Reds' Elly De La Cruz: Hamstring 90 percent healed

Reds manager Terry Francona said Friday that an MRI showed De La Cruz's right hamstring strain to be 90 percent healed, Charlie Clifford of NBC 5 Cincinnati reports. The Reds will make a decision Sunday on the next steps for De La Cruz, who could need a brief rehab assignment before returning to the active roster. De La Cruz has been sidelined for all of June with his hamstring injury, but fantasy managers could get him back at some point next week.

  • Reds' Elly De La Cruz: Set for infield work, MRI on tap

Reds manager Terry Francona said Wednesday that De La Cruz (hamstring) is scheduled to take part in infield drills for the second day in a row and will undergo a follow-up MRI on Friday, C. Trent Rosecrans of The Athletic reports. If the MRI reveals that De La Cruz has healed from his right hamstring strain as anticipated, he could increase the intensity of his workouts beginning next week. When De La Cruz was first placed on the shelf June 1, Francona indicated that the star shortstop would likely miss around 2-to-4 weeks, and there's little to suggest that his timeline has changed. Matt McLain has taken over as the Reds' primary shortstop since De La Cruz landed on the shelf, which has opened up more work for Edwin Arroyo and Spencer Steer at the keystone.

  • Reds' Elly De La Cruz: Next MRI scheduled for Friday

De La Cruz (hamstring) had his scheduled MRI moved up three days to this coming Friday, June 12, Gordon Wittenmyer of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports. De La Cruz is expected to miss 2-to-4 weeks due to a right hamstring strain that he sustained this past Sunday against Atlanta. The good news for the superstar shortstop is that he appears to be progressing ahead of his recovery schedule, so Friday's MRI should give the Reds a better sense of the next steps for De La Cruz's rehab program. In his absence, Matt McLain is expected to see more starts at shortstop, and Edwin Arroyo and Noelvi Marte are also slated to see more playing time.

  • Reds' Elly De La Cruz: Likely to miss 2-to-4 weeks

Reds manager Terry Francona said Monday that an MRI on De La Cruz's right hamstring showed between a Grade 1 and Grade 2 strain, Charlie Goldsmith of Fox 19 Now Cincinnati reports. De La Cruz was placed on the 10-day injured list earlier Monday for the first time in his major-league career. He could get another MRI in a couple weeks to check the status of his progress, but early indications are that De La Cruz will likely be sidelined for 2-to-4 weeks. Matt McLain is drawing the start at shortstop for Cincinnati in Monday's game versus the Royals, and Edwin Arroyo is making his major-league debut at second base.

  • Reds' Elly De La Cruz: Lands on IL with strained hamstring

The Reds placed De La Cruz on the 10-day injured list Monday with a right hamstring strain. De La Cruz sustained the injury during Sunday's win over Atlanta, and a subsequent MRI revealed a strain. While it's unclear what the grade of the strain is, even a mild hamstring strain can result in a longer than minimum absence. It's the first time in his major-league career that De La Cruz has landed on the IL. The Reds are calling up Edwin Arroyo to take De La Cruz's spot on the roster.

  • Reds' Elly De La Cruz: Optimistic following injury

De La Cruz (hamstring) is optimistic he won't miss much time after leaving Sunday's game, C. Trent Rosecrans of The Athletic reports. De La Cruz pulled up on his way to first base on a hit that might normally be a double. He believes he caught himself before doing anything worse to the hamstring. "When I was starting running and then when I was making the turn to get to first, I felt tightness on my hamstring and I immediately decided to stop because I felt like if I kept going, this could get worse," De La Cruz said, via an interpreter. He had gone 2-for-2 with a walk, a stolen base and scored twice Sunday before being removed in the fifth inning. The Reds begin a three-game series with the Royals on Monday.

  • Reds' Elly De La Cruz: Set to undergo MRI

De La Cruz (hamstring) will undergo an MRI on Monday, Pat Brennan of the Cincinnati Enquirer reports. De La Cruz exited Sunday's 6-4 win over Atlanta in the fifth inning after pulling up lame on a single that should have been a double. The 24-year-old will now undergo additional imaging, placing some doubt on his status ahead of the team's three-game series at home against the Royals beginning Monday.

  • Reds' Elly De La Cruz: Dealing with hamstring issue

De La Cruz was removed from Sunday's game against Atlanta due to right hamstring tightness. He went 2-for-2 with two runs and his 10th stolen base of the season prior to his departure. The 24-year-old shortstop sustained the injury Sunday during the fifth inning, when he led off the frame with a likely double but was unable to make it past first base. He's scheduled for medical imaging Monday, per Pat Brennan of The Cincinnati Enquirer, and De La Cruz should continue to be considered day-to-day in the meantime.

  • Reds' Elly De La Cruz: Not playing in WBC

The Reds did not give De La Cruz permission to play in the World Baseball Classic, C. Trent Rosecrans of The Athletic reports. De La Cruz wanted to represent the Dominican Republic, but Cincy has lingering concerns about a quad injury that appeared to limit him over the second half of the 2025 season. The shortstop, who still played all 162 regular-season games, experienced a second-half dip last year after a strong first half. Reds manager Terry Francona acknowledged the need to find ways to keep De La Cruz fresh in 2026, and the trade of Gavin Lux will allow starters to rotate through DH and get breaks from playing the field, per Rosencrans.
