  • Mariners' J.P. Crawford: Gets aboard three times

Crawford went 1-for-2 with two walks in Tuesday's 3-1 win over the Orioles. Crawford missed the minimum time on the 10-day injured list due to a hand injury. Notably, he returned as the leadoff hitter and third baseman Tuesday, allowing Colt Emerson to stay at his natural shortstop position. That arrangement looks like it could stick, at least until Brendan Donovan (groin) returns, which isn't imminent. Crawford is batting .231 with a .773 OPS, 10 home runs, 23 RBI, 31 runs scored, five doubles and one stolen base over 56 contests. He hit .333 (14-for-42) over the 11 games immediately before his injury, so he'll be looking to sustain that momentum.

  • Mariners' J.P. Crawford: Reinstated from IL

The Mariners activated Crawford (hand) from the 10-day injured list Tuesday. The veteran shortstop will end up spending only the 10-day minimum on the shelf due to a bruised right hand, which he sustained on a hit-by-pitch. Crawford was carrying a hot bat prior to the injury with a .333/.408/.643 slash line and four homers in his last 11 games before landing on the IL.

  • Mariners' J.P. Crawford: Plans to return from IL on Tuesday

Crawford (hand) said he expects to be activated from the 10-day injured list Tuesday when first eligible, Daniel Kramer of MLB.com reports. Crawford landed on the IL on June 8 due to a right hand contusion and won't need to go on a rehab assignment prior to being activated. The long-time shortstop has taken grounders almost exclusively at third base in pregame workouts during the Mariners' current road trip, strongly suggesting rookie Colt Emerson will continue playing regularly at shortstop when Crawford returns. The veteran infielder could face more of a squeeze for playing time once Brendan Donovan (groin/adductor) also returns from the IL.

  • Mariners' J.P. Crawford: Undergoes CT scan

Crawford (hand) is still waiting for the results of a CT scan he underwent Tuesday, Daniel Kramer of MLB.com reports. Crawford was hit on the right hand by a pitch last Friday and placed on the 10-day injured list Monday. The injury designation provided Monday was a contusion, but that could change depending on the results of the CT scan. The swelling in Crawford's hand has subsided, but he is still unable to grip a bat. The Mariners could have an update on the shortstop's status later Tuesday.

  • Mariners' J.P. Crawford: Hits IL with hand contusion

The Mariners placed Crawford (hand) on the 10-day injured list Monday. Seattle is continuing to classify Crawford's injury as a right hand contusion rather than a sprain or fracture, but the bruise is evidently painful enough for the veteran infielder that the Mariners opted to shut him down through at least the rest of the week. While Crawford is on the shelf, Colt Emerson is slated to serve as Seattle's primary shortstop, which will open up third base for Patrick Wisdom.

  • Mariners' J.P. Crawford: Taking seat due to bruised hand

Crawford (hand) is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Orioles. The Mariners will keep Crawford on the bench for a third straight game while he's still tending to a bruised right hand, which stems from him being hit by a 95.6-mph fastball during Friday's 7-3 loss to the Tigers. With Crawford taking a seat, the Mariners will once again go with Colt Emerson at shortstop and Patrick Wisdom at third base.

  • Mariners' J.P. Crawford: Getting rest Saturday

Crawford (hand) isn't in the lineup for Saturday's game against Detroit. Crawford will receive a day off to recover after getting hit on the hand by a pitch during Friday's series opener. Colt Emerson will move over to shortstop to cover for Crawford, giving Patrick Wisdom a start at third base.

  • Mariners' J.P. Crawford: X-rays negative

X-rays on Crawford's hand came back negative following Friday's loss to Detroit, Tim Booth of The Seattle Times reports. Crawford was pulled from Friday's game after taking a pitch off his hand in the third inning, but he appears to have escaped the encounter with no more than a bruise. He could sit out a day or two to allow for any lingering soreness to subside, but an extended absence is unlikely.

  • Mariners' J.P. Crawford: Launches 10th homer

Crawford went 3-for-4 with a double and a solo home run in Wednesday's 7-1 loss to the Mets. Crawford was responsible for three of the Mariners' six hits Wednesday and their lone run -- the shortstop led off the home half of the first inning with a 409-foot blast off Freddy Peralta for his 10th homer of the year and fourth in the last nine games. Crawford's boosted his slash line to .224/.351/.406 across 231 plate appearances with 30 runs scored and 23 RBI this season.

  • Mariners' J.P. Crawford: Back in lineup Friday

Crawford (triceps) is hitting leadoff and playing shortstop Friday against the Royals. Crawford was scratched from the lineup Wednesday against the White Sox with a sore triceps, but he's back in there following Thursday's off day. With Crawford at shortstop, rookie Colt Emerson is playing third base and hitting ninth. Crawford is hitting just .210 this season but has a .358 on-base percentage.

  • Mariners' J.P. Crawford: Scratched with triceps injury

Crawford was scratched from the lineup for Wednesday's game against the White Sox due to a sore triceps, Ryan Divish of The Seattle Times reports. Crawford said that his triceps was bothering him while he attempted to play catch, and with a team off day on tap Thursday, the Mariners opted to hold him out of the lineup for the series finale to afford him some extra rest. According to Daniel Kramer of MLB.com, Crawford continued to take part in pregame defensive work after being scratched, so he could be available off the bench Wednesday, if needed. Crawford will likely return to the starting nine for Friday's series opener in Kansas City.

  • Mariners' J.P. Crawford: Taking seat against lefty

Crawford is not in the lineup Tuesday versus the White Sox. The White Sox are starting southpaw Anthony Kay, so the left-handed bat of Crawford will take a seat. Colt Emerson has the start at short and is batting ninth.

  • Mariners' J.P. Crawford: In Seattle lineup

Crawford (triceps) will start at shortstop and bat leadoff in Monday's game versus the White Sox. Crawford had to depart Sunday's game against the Padres after being struck in the right triceps by a pitch. However, he managed to escape with merely a contusion and will not have to miss a start.

  • Mariners' J.P. Crawford: Exits early Sunday

Crawford exited Sunday night's game versus the Padres in the fifth inning after being hit by a pitch on his right arm earlier in the contest, Daniel Kramer of MLB.com reports. Crawford took a 91.6 mph fastball from Lucas Giolito off his right triceps in the bottom of the third inning, and he ultimately exited the contest before the top of the fifth frame. The fact that he was able to remain in the game for an additional inning after being hit is a positive sign, but more information on his status will likely come in the near future. Leo Rivas replaced Crawford at shortstop.

  • Mariners' J.P. Crawford: Hits leadoff homer

Crawford went 2-for-5 with a solo home run in Wednesday's 4-3 extra-inning loss to the Astros. Crawford was back atop the lineup since Brendan Donovan received a day off. The homer was Crawford's fifth of the season, four of which have come over his last 14 games, a stretch in which he's hitting .250 (13-for-52). That's an improvement on his .208 average for the season, which comes with a .713 OPS, 14 RBI, 21 runs scored, one stolen base and three doubles over 36 contests. Crawford isn't a huge threat with power or speed, but his patience at the plate is enough to keep him in a starting role for a team that has struggled to hit this season.

  • Mariners' J.P. Crawford: Drills another homer

Crawford went 1-for-4 with a two-run home run in Tuesday's 3-2 loss to Atlanta. Crawford opened the scoring Tuesday with his third-inning homer, but that was all the run production Seattle would muster. The shortstop is heating up at the plate -- he's hit safely in his last seven games, going 8-for-27 (.296) with three homers and five RBI in that span. That's a stretch that has started to lift him out of his slow start, though he's still hitting .210 with a .723 OPS, four long balls, 11 RBI, 17 runs scored and a stolen base over 29 contests this season.

  • Rangers' MacKenzie Gore: Yields three homers in loss

Gore (2-2) allowed five runs on seven hits and a walk while striking out five over five innings to take the loss Sunday versus the Mariners. Gore's control issues from his previous outing didn't return in this one, as he threw 61 of 90 pitches for strikes. However, the Mariners were able to tee off against him, beginning with Rob Refsnyder's solo shot to open the bottom of the first. J.P. Crawford and Randy Arozarena also had two-run blasts in the game, making it Gore's worst outing of the season in terms of runs allowed. The southpaw has been passable to open his Rangers tenure, posting a 4.15 ERA, 1.19 WHIP and 35:12 K:BB over 26 innings across his first five starts with his new team. The strikeout upside is there, but Gore's also carried a high walk rate often in his career, and this season's 4.2 BB/9 is an extension of that trend. His next start is projected to be at home versus the Athletics.

  • Mariners' J.P. Crawford: Activated from IL

The Mariners reinstated Crawford (shoulder) from the 10-day injured list Thursday. Crawford dealt with shoulder problems throughout spring training, and he landed on the injured list at the start of the regular season after receiving a cortisone shot to treat the injury. After playing a full rehab game at Triple-A Tacoma on Tuesday without any issues, he'll now rejoin the active roster and slot in as Seattle's primary shortstop -- at least until the club is ready to promote top prospect Colt Emerson. Ryan Bliss was optioned to Tacoma in a corresponding move.

  • Mariners' J.P. Crawford: Goes on IL with shoulder injury

The Mariners placed Crawford (shoulder) on the 10-day injured list Wednesday. Crawford has battled nagging right shoulder inflammation since the start of spring training and was given a cortisone injection last week. He is eligible for activation April 1 and has expressed optimism that he could return within the next couple weeks, per Adam Jude of the Seattle Times. Leo Rivas will fill in at shortstop for the Mariners while Crawford is shelved.

  • Mariners' J.P. Crawford: Uncertain for Opening Day

Crawford received a cortisone injection in his injured shoulder Wednesday, and manager Dan Wilson said it's unclear if the shortstop will be ready to play in the March 26 season opener versus the Guardians, Ryan Divish of The Seattle Times reports. Following the injection, Crawford will be shut down for a few days, according to Divish. The veteran shortstop has been dealing with the shoulder issue for most of spring training and has appeared in just seven Cactus League contests. He has two hits across 18 trips to the plate and now may be in danger of missing Opening Day. If Crawford is shelved to begin the season, Leo Rivas and top prospect Colt Emerson would be the top candidates to fill in at shortstop.
