Ryan Kreidler 3B | MIN
Tigers' Ryan Kreidler: Might be added to roster
Kreidler has joined the Tigers in Chicago for their series versus the Cubs and could be added to the roster if Javier Baez needs to go on the 10-day injured list, Chris McCosky of The Detroit News reports.
Baez is undergoing tests for an undisclosed injury and the club has summoned Kreidler as insurance. The 26-year-old could get some reps at shortstop versus lefties if Baez needs to miss time, but Trey Sweeney would be in line for the bulk of the starts at the position.

Javier Baez SS | DET
Tigers' Javier Baez: Could need stint on IL
Baez is undergoing tests for an undisclosed injury and could require a trip to the 10-day injured list, Chris McCosky of The Detroit News reports.
Baez dealt with a hip issue recently, although it's not clear whether that's what's bothering him now. Ryan Kreidler has joined the Tigers in Chicago for their series against the Cubs and will be added to the roster if Baez gets shut down. The veteran has been sharing the shortstop job with Trey Sweeney lately and hasn't made consecutive starts since Aug. 9-10.

Dansby Swanson SS | CHC
Cubs' Dansby Swanson: Runs wild in win
Swanson went 2-for-4 with an RBI and two runs scored in Thursday's 10-2 win over the Tigers. He also stole two bases.
Swanson was active in the easy win as he notched his first game this season with multiple stolen bases. The shortstop's overall production is down from last year, though he does have 12 steals, which is up from eight in 2023. Swanson's career high in the category is 18, set in 2022 when he played for Atlanta.

Kevin McGonigle SS | DET
Tigers' Kevin McGonigle: Gets surgery for broken hand
McGonigle underwent surgery Aug. 15 to repair a hamate bone fracture in his right hand, MLB.com reports.
The Tigers haven't provided a timeline for McGonigle's return, but with High-A West Michigan's season ending Sept. 8, the 20-year-old infielder is most likely done for 2024. The 37th overall pick in the 2023 First-Year Player Draft, McGonigle finished his first full professional season with a .309/.401/.452 slash line to go with five home runs and 22 stolen bases over 328 plate appearances between stops with West Michigan and Single-A Lakeland.

Nick Ahmed SS | TEX
Nick Ahmed: Headed to free agency
Ahmed elected free agency Thursday, Eric Stephen of SBNation.com reports.
Ahmed was designated for assignment Monday and outrighted off the Dodgers' roster Thursday. Rather than accepting his assignment to Triple-A Oklahoma City, he elected free agency in search of greener pastures.

Bo Bichette 3B | NYM
Blue Jays' Bo Bichette: Resumes running
Manager John Schneider said Thursday that Bichette (calf) has resumed running at the team's complex in Florida, Keegan Matheson of MLB.com reports.
Bichette had been limited to hitting and fielding drills over the past several days, but his return to running marks a significant checkpoint in his recovery from a right calf strain. He's slated to join the Blue Jays in Boston on Monday and travel with the team during their road trip, after which he could potentially head to the minor leagues on a rehab assignment.

Taylor Walls 3B | TB
Rays' Taylor Walls: Seeing steady starts at shortstop
Walls will start at shortstop and bat seventh in Thursday's game against the Athletics.
Though he appeared to be at risk of moving into more of a part-time role when the Rays recalled infielder Junior Caminero from Triple-A Durham on Aug. 13, Walls still looks to be the team's top option at shortstop. Walls will pick up his fifth start in six games Thursday, while Jose Caballero has instead taken the bigger hit from a playing-time perspective following the arrival of Caminero. Caballero boasts the better fantasy profile of the two players thanks to his willingness to run (35 steals in 48 attempts this season), but the Rays seem to place greater value on Walls' defense at shortstop.

Jacob Wilson SS | ATH
Athletics' Jacob Wilson: Plays in consecutive rehab games
Wilson (hamstring) played seven innings at shortstop and a full game at DH in Triple-A Las Vegas' games against Reno on Tuesday and Wednesday, respectively, going a combined 2-for-6 with an RBI, two walks and a run.
All of Wilson's offensive contributions in that span came in the latter contest, and he's now hitting .364 (4-for-11) over his four-game rehab stint. Wilson is slated to play again for the Aviators on Thursday and could potentially put in a full nine innings on defense for the first time during his time with Las Vegas.

Trey Sweeney SS | DET
Tigers' Trey Sweeney: Getting afternoon off
Sweeney is out of the lineup for Thursday's game against the Cubs.
With a lefty (Justin Steele) on the hill for the Cubs, the lefty-hitting Sweeney will hit the bench as Javier Baez picks up the start at shortstop. Sweeney should still receive the bulk of the opportunities at shortstop down the stretch as he looks to stake a claim to a full-time role with the big club heading into 2025. Since getting promoted from Triple-A Toledo last Friday, Sweeney has gone 2-for-11 with a home run and two RBI over his first three big-league games.
