Brewers' Joey Ortiz: Dealing with hamstring injury

Ortiz has been diagnosed with a left hamstring injury after exiting Thursday's win over the Cubs in the fifth inning, Todd Rosiak of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports.

The severity of the injury isn't yet known, but Ortiz will presumably undergo further testing. His status for Friday's series opener against the Giants is uncertain. Andruw Monasterio filled in at shortstop in place of Ortiz on Thursday and would be the logical candidate to step in at the position if Ortiz needs to miss time.

  • Luke Williams 2B | ATL

Braves' Luke Williams: Placed on 10-day IL

Atlanta placed Williams on the 10-day injured list with a strained left oblique Thursday.

Williams hasn't appeared at the plate since Aug. 9 versus Miami. He's slashing .103/.156/.172 with two extra-base hits, five RBI, five runs scored, four stolen bases and a 1:9 BB:K across 32 plate appearances this season.

  • Joseph Ortiz SS | MIL

Brewers' Joey Ortiz: Departs with apparent injury

Ortiz exited Thursday's game against the Cubs in the bottom of the fifth inning with an apparent left leg injury, Sophia Minnaert of FanDuel Sports Network Wisconsin reports.

Ortiz grounded out to third in the top of the fifth and was grabbing at his left leg. He fouled a pitch off his left knee Tuesday, but it's unclear if the two issues are related. Andruw Monasterio has replaced Ortiz at shortstop for Milwaukee.

  • Ha-seong Kim SS | ATL

Rays' Ha-Seong Kim: Heading back to injured list

The Rays will place Kim (back) on the 10-day injured list Thursday, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.

Kim was scratched from Wednesday's lineup with back tightness and evidently the injury is bad enough to require another trip to the IL for the veteran infielder. The 29-year-old Kim has been limited to only 29 games this season due to myriad injuries, and he's slashed just .214/.290/.321 in those contests. It's not clear how long Kim will be sidelined this time around. Top prospect Carson Williams will take Kim's spot on the active roster.

  • Rays' Carson Williams: Receiving promotion to big leagues

The Rays will call up Williams from Triple-A Durham on Thursday, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.

Ha-Seong Kim (back) is headed to the 10-day injured list, and Williams should man shortstop for the Rays regularly while Kim is out. Williams has not had a great 2025 season with Durham, slashing just .213/.318/.447 with a 34.1 percent strikeout rate. He has, however, socked 23 home runs and stolen 22 bases, so there is a tempting combination of power and speed if Williams is able to make enough contact.

  • Emil Morales SS | LAD

Dodgers' Emil Morales: Mashing for Quakes

Morales is slashing .338/.417/.622 with five home runs, four steals and a 23.8 percent strikeout rate in 18 games since getting promoted to Single-A Rancho Cucamonga on July 25.

Morales has gotten better as his age-18 season has gone on, as he had a 28.3 percent strikeout rate and 127 wRC+ in 59 Arizona Complex League games and has cut his strikeout rate while upping his production (177 wRC+) in his first tour of the Cal League. Morales has played the majority of his games at shortstop this season, but as he continues filling out his large 6-foot-3 frame, he will likely slide down the defensive spectrum. Still, he's shown enough offensive upside at Single-A to potentially profile at any position.

  • Marek Houston SS | MIN

Twins' Marek Houston: Promoted to High-A

Houston was recently promoted to High-A Cedar Rapids. He's 1-for-10 with a stolen base in his first two games. He was promoted after hitting .370 with a .868 OPS for Single-A Fort Myers in 12 games.

Houston, the 16th overall pick in the 2025 First-Year Player Draft, was a bit old for Single-A at age 21 out of Wake Forest, so this isn't too surprising. Still, it shows the Twins are optimistic about his progress after an initial look at Fort Myers.

  • Zachary Neto SS | LAA

    Angels' Zach Neto: X-rays negative

Angels interim manager Ray Montgomery said following Wednesday's win over the Reds that Neto is "fine" after X-rays came back negative on his left wrist, Erica Weston of Bally Sports West reports.

Neto was hit by a pitch on his left wrist in the bottom of the third inning and was later removed from the game in the top of the sixth after he didn't look comfortable in his subsequent plate appearance. Oswald Peraza replaced Neto at shortstop, but it sounds like Neto is day-to-day with the Angels headed into an off day Thursday ahead of weekend set with the Cubs.

  • Maximo Acosta SS | MIA

Marlins' Maximo Acosta: Records first MLB hit with homer

Acosta went 1-for-3 with a solo home run and a walk in Wednesday's 6-2 win over the Cardinals.

The 22-year-old infielder collected his first career MLB hit and home run, launching a 418-foot shot off Andre Pallante in the sixth inning that chased the right-hander from the contest. The milestone blast came in Acosta's third major-league game. He showed flashes of his upside in the minors this season, tallying 13 homers and 28 steals over 106 games in Jacksonville. While his role with Miami remains limited for now, his power-speed profile could offer intriguing fantasy value if he earns consistent playing time.

  • Zachary Neto SS | LAA

Angels' Zach Neto: Removed after HBP on hand

Neto was removed from Wednesday's game against the Reds in the top of the sixth inning after he was hit by a pitch on the left hand earlier in the contest, Andres Soto of MLB.com reports.

The Angels announced Neto is dealing with left wrist soreness. Neto was hit by a pitch in the third inning and didn't look comfortable in his following plate appearance in the bottom of the fifth. Oswald Peraza took over at shortstop in place of Neto in the top of the sixth. Prior to leaving, Neto went 0-for-2 at the dish. Consider him day-to-day for now, but Neto will presumably undergo further testing on his hand and wrist. The Angels have a day off Thursday ahead of a home weekend series against the Cubs.
