Top Cameron Cauley News

  • Rangers' Cameron Cauley: Scores twice in debut

Cauley went 1-for-3 with a triple, two runs scored and a walk in Monday's 6-3 win over the Guardians.

Cauley slotted in at second base and hit seventh in his major-league debut. The 23-year-old showcased his speed with a triple in the seventh inning for his first big-league hit, eventually coming around to score before crossing the plate again in the ninth frame after reaching on a walk. Cauley could see extended opportunities at the keystone ahead of Nicky Lopez, allowing Ezequiel Duran to continue operating in a super-utility role.

  • Rangers' Cameron Cauley: Added to big-league roster

The Rangers selected Cauley's contract from Triple-A Round Rock on Monday.

Cauley receives his first big-league promotion after slashing .262/.363/.407 with eight home runs, 29 stolen bases and a 45:73 BB:K over 74 games with Round Rock. The 23-year-old will start at second base and batting seventh Monday in Cleveland in his major-league debut. Texas has struggled for production at the keystone this season, so Cauley could get a chance to settle in there if the club prefers to keep Ezequiel Duran in a super-utility role.

  • Rangers' Cameron Cauley: Poised for promotion

The Rangers are expected to promote Cauley from Triple-A Round Rock on Monday, Robert Murray of FanSided.com reports.

Cauley has put together a nice season with Round Rock, slashing .262/.363/.407 with eight home runs, 29 stolen bases and a 45:73 BB:K over 74 games. The 23-year-old has started games at shortstop, second base, third base and center field this season and will be making his major-league debut when/if he gets into a game. It's unclear what corresponding 40-man roster move the Rangers will make in order to free up a spot for Cauley.

  • Rangers' Cameron Cauley: Finishes season in style

Cauley slashed .276/.333/.530 with nine home runs, seven steals and a 23.9 percent strikeout rate in his final 44 games for Double-A Frisco.

Cauley finished the season in style, going 4-for-4 with a walk-off home run in the final game of the season Sept. 14 against Northwest Arkansas. Long known as a fantastic athlete and versatile up-the-middle defender, Cauley's strikeout issues have held him back in prior years. He struck out 29.2 percent of the time as a 21-year-old at High-A last year and 31.6 percent of the time in the lower levels in 2023, so the fact he logged his best strikeout rate as a pro (24.7 percent) in his first season at Double-A is an encouraging sign. Cauley split time between shortstop (45 starts), center field (42 starts) and second base (25 starts) this season and should get added to the 40-man roster this winter to protect him from the Rule 5 draft.

  • Rangers' Cameron Cauley: Two XBHs in Spring Breakout

Cauley started at second base and went 2-for-2 with a double, triple and an RBI in Thursday's Spring Breakout game against Cincinnati.

Cauley smoked a double the opposite way off the base of the right-field wall, then benefited from a routine flyball that was misplayed into a triple. The 2021 third-round draft pick, who entered professional baseball as a shortstop, has appeared in 50 games at second base since joining the Rangers' organization. Sebastian Walcott, ranked third among Texas' prospects, got the start at shortstop, which suggests Cauley may need to get comfortable at another position or two.

  • Rangers' Cameron Cauley: To play in AFL

Cauley will play for the Surprise Saguaros this year in the Arizona Fall League.

Cauley, a 20-year-old shortstop known for his defense and athleticism, stole 36 bases while hitting 12 home runs in 100 games across Single-A and High-A this season. With two potential 70- or 80-grade tools in his glove and his speed, Cauley figures to turn heads at times during AFL play. The further development of his hit tool (31.9 percent strikeout rate in 2023) will be critical in order for him to avoid being either a bench infielder or a bottom-of-the-order hitter on a second-division team.
