  • Trevor Story SS | BOS

Rockies' Trevor Story: Four-hit day in loss

Story went 4-for-4 with a double, three RBI and a run scored in the Rockies' 8-7 loss to the Diamondbacks on Tuesday.

The shortstop had one hit in his last eight at-bats coming in, but he got back on track in short order, racking up four more hits and driving in three of Colorado's seven runs on the day. Story is having another fantastic campaign at the dish, as this effort brings his slash line up to .296/.362/.573 to go along with 28 homers, 17 stolen bases and 74 RBI across 510 plate appearances.

  • Giants' Brandon Crawford: Out of Tuesday's lineup

Crawford is not in Tuesday's lineup against the Cubs.

He was swinging a hot bat around the All-Star break, but has predictably cooled off, hitting .173 with zero home runs in 52 August at-bats. Abiatal Avelino will start at shortstop and hit eighth.

  • Dansby Swanson SS | CHC

Braves' Dansby Swanson: Rehab assignment begins this week

Swanson (foot) is hoping to begin a rehab assignment sometime this week, Mark Bowman of MLB.com reports.

Swanson's recovery has not gone as planned, but it sounds like he should at least make it back sometime in September. He had recently increased his on-field activities.

  • Paul DeJong SS | DET

Cardinals' Paul DeJong: Smacks solo shot

DeJong went 1-for-3 with a solo home run in a win over the Brewers on Monday.

DeJong closed out the scoring on the night with his sixth-inning solo blast, his third homer in the last six games. The shortstop's .246/.323/.457 line is a serviceable one, but for the second consecutive season, it appears DeJong will disappointingly fall way short of the promising .285 average and .532 slugging percentage he managed during his rookie 2017 campaign.

  • Oneil Cruz SS | PIT

Pirates' Oneil Cruz: Shows skills Monday

Cruz went 1-for-3 with a pair of stolen bases against Double-A Hartford on Monday.

The steals were his first since he was promoted from High-A Bradenton. Cruz is batting .333 in his last 10 games. He's already ripped off three triples in 21 Eastern League contests and continues to show why he ranks near the top of Pittsburgh's prospects list. The 6-foot-6 infielder has played shortstop exclusively in 2019 but it wouldn't be surprising to see him end up at another position in the majors. Cruz is slashing .307/.357/.493 with seven homers and 10 steals across three levels in 2019.

  • Nick Ahmed SS | TEX

Diamondbacks' Nick Ahmed: Earns weekly award

Ahmed was named the National League Player of the Week, Thomas Harrigan of MLB.com reports.

Ahmed slashed .423/.464/1.038 with four home runs, a triple, two doubles and 11 RBI in seven games last week. The 29-year-old shortstop is up to 16 homers in 123 games, tying the number of long balls he hit last year in 30 more games played.

  • Jeter Downs SS | NYY

Dodgers' Jeter Downs: Bumped up to Double-A

Downs was promoted to Double-A Tulsa on Monday, Future Dodgers reports.

He hit .269/.354/.507 (134 wRC+) with 19 home runs and 23 steals with High-A Rancho Cucamonga, and really turned it on over the past three-plus months. Downs is hitting .301 with a 160 wRC+ since May 10. He is a luxury for a team that already has Corey Seager and Gavin Lux in house, but Downs certainly looks like he has a chance to be an everyday player on a good team.

  • Orlando Arcia SS | MIN

Brewers' Orlando Arcia: Slugs second homer of weekend

Arcia went 3-for-5 with a two-run home run in Sunday's 16-8 loss to the Nationals.

Arcia connected on his 14th long ball of the season -- and second of the series -- in the ninth inning, making the final outcome more respectable in a game the Nationals controlled wire to wire. The 25-year-old may occasionally cede starts to Hernan Perez versus left-handed pitching, but he still looks like the Brewers' primary shortstop despite being in the midst of a second straight disappointing campaign.

  • Tommy Edman 2B | LAD

Cardinals' Tommy Edman: Launches fifth homer

Edman went 3-for-5 with a solo home run, a stolen base and two runs scored Sunday against the Reds.

Edman left the yard in the fifth inning, extending the Cardinals' lead to three on the way to a 5-4 victory. The 24-year-old is slashing .271/.303/.429 with five homers and 19 RBI over 54 games this season for St. Louis.

  • Trea Turner SS | PHI

Nationals' Trea Turner: Slugs home run in loss

Turner went 2-for-8 with a three-run home run in Saturday's 15-14 loss to the Brewers in 14 innings.

Turner's 12th home run of the season was one of 11 on the night between the two teams. Though the extra innings certainly helped him, Turner also supplied his third multi-hit performance in five games and extended his on-base streak to 24 contests.
