The Brewers placed Gasser on the 15-day injured list Wednesday with a left flexor strain.

Initial testing on Gasser's left elbow provided encouraging results, but a second opinion evidently revealed the strain. It's not clear at this point how much time the rookie southpaw might miss, but he'll almost certainly miss more than the minimum 15 days. Gasser has been a bright spot for Milwaukee this season, posting a 2.57 ERA and 16:1 K:BB over 28 frames covering five starts.

Rea didn't factor into the decision Tuesday against the Phillies, allowing four hits and two walks over four scoreless innings. He struck out two.

Rea entered in the second inning after Jared Koenig opened the game with 1.1 scoreless frames. Rea would manage to hold the Phillies off the board for four innings, though he'd need 70 pitches to record 12 outs. It's the second time so far this year that Rea's worked behind an opener. Overall, he's 4-2 with a 3.53 ERA, 1.35 WHIP and 44:23 K:BB across 63.2 innings. Rea's currently in line for a road matchup with the Tigers on Sunday, though it's unclear if he'll work as a traditional starter or in a bulk role again.

Herz (0-1) took the loss Tuesday as the Nationals fell 6-3 to the Mets, giving up four runs on seven hits and two walks over four-plus innings. He struck out three.

Making his major-league debut, the 23-year-old southpaw looked good his first time through the order, but New York's hitters quickly figured him out. Herz could get a longer look in the Nats' rotation due to the team's lack of alternatives, but Josiah Gray (elbow) could be back by the middle of the month to bump the rookie back to Triple-A. Assuming he does stick around, Herz would face a tough test in his next outing, which lines up to come at home this weekend against Atlanta.

Peterson (1-0) picked up the win Tuesday, giving up two runs on five hits and two walks over 6.2 innings in a 6-3 victory over the Nationals. He struck out two.

The southpaw wasn't dominant, but he threw an efficient 81 pitches (52 strikes) as he recorded his first big-league win since July 27 of last year, which coincidentally was also against Washington. Peterson has made a good case so far for sticking in the Mets' rotation, allowing four earned runs in 11.2 innings over his first two starts. He'll look to keep rolling in his next outing, which lines up to come at home next week against the Marlins.

Mazur didn't factor into the decision in Tuesday's 4-2 loss to the Angels, allowing one run on two hits and four walks while striking out two over six innings.

Mazur didn't have his best command Tuesday but was able to limit the damage against him by inducing plenty of weak contact. He allowed four hard-hit balls on the night, and both hits against him went for singles, with one of those being an RBI knock by Luis Rengifo in the third. Aside from the walks, it was an impressive showing from the 23-year-old, who needed only 77 pitches to get through six frames. Mazur figures to get at least another turn through the rotation while the team deals with some injuries and lines up to take the mound over the weekend against the Diamondbacks.

Matz (back) will begin a rehab assignment with Triple-A Memphis on Thursday, Derrick Goold of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports.

Recovering from a protruding disc in his lower back, Matz was cleared for a rehab start after completing two high-intensity bullpen sessions. He is slated for 40-to-45 pitches Thursday, so he will need at least one additional rehab start before coming off the 15-day injured list rejoining the Cardinals rotation. A mid-June return is on the table if Matz doesn't have any hiccups during his rehab assignment.

Winn (forearm) allowed one run on two hits and two walks while striking out six over 3.2 innings in a rehab appearance in the rookie-level Arizona Complex League on Tuesday.

The Giants had mulled the possibility of having Winn skip a rehab start and instead returning from the 15-day injured list and slotting back into the rotation Tuesday. While that didn't happen, Winn could just require the one rehab outing before rejoining the big club Sunday against the Rangers or Monday versus the Astros. The right-hander has been out since mid-May with a strained right forearm.

Harrison dropped to 4-3 on the season in Tuesday's 8-5 loss to the Diamondbacks, allowing four runs (three earned) on eight hits and no walks while striking out five over six innings.

Harrison worked a pair of clean innings before the Diamondbacks opened up the third with four consecutive hits, leading to three runs, and then tacked on an unearned run in the fourth. Despite giving up some hard hits early, Harrison was able to buckle down and complete six innings for the first time since May 7. He also managed to not walk a batter for the first time since April 26. The 22-year-old has now given up 20 hits over his last 11 innings, though that also comes with a 10:1 K:BB. Harrison will carry a 4.18 ERA, 1.39 WHIP and 65:22 K:BB into his next start, which projects to fall against Houston early next week.

Ray (elbow) struck out three in a scoreless inning Tuesday with the Arizona Complex League Giants in his first rehab appearance.

Ray yielded a double to top Mariners prospect Felnin Celesten but pitched around it by inducing three swinging strikeouts. Coming back from last May's Tommy John surgery, the 32-year-old Ray will require multiple outings as he builds back up. With a 30-day rehab window, it looks like he should make it back before the All-Star break.

Freeland (elbow) threw 40 pitches across two innings in a simulated game Tuesday, MLB.com reports.

Freeland used all of his pitches and felt good afterward. He'll head to the team's facility in Arizona this weekend to face live hitters soon, though the exact timing for the next steps in his recovery aren't yet clear. Freeland remains on track for a return in late June.
