  • Diamondbacks' Zac Gallen: Takes fourth straight defeat

Gallen (3-9) took the loss against San Diego on Tuesday, allowing four runs on six hits and three walks while striking out five batters over six innings. Gallen was knocked around in the first, with Jake Cronenworth's three-run homer capping a four-run Padres outburst. The veteran hurler settled down from there and was even able to give Arizona six frames, but the early damage was enough to send him to a fourth consecutive loss. Gallen has given up a total of 24 earned runs across 22.1 innings during the losing streak, pushing his season ERA up to an ugly 6.34 -- dead last among qualified starters in MLB. Gallen's 1.56 WHIP is also worst in the league, and things don't figure to get easier for him his next time out, as he's lined up for a tough road matchup against the Dodgers.

  • Diamondbacks' Zac Gallen: Knocked around by Giants

Gallen (3-8) allowed six runs on seven hits and a walk while striking out four over 5.2 innings to take the loss Wednesday versus the Giants. Gallen had a decent start going until he allowed a solo home run to Heliot Ramos and a two-run blast to Victor Bericoto in the fifth inning. The Giants went small ball to scrape together three more runs, all charged to Gallen, in the sixth. While the veteran right-hander has struggled for most of the season, he's been particularly bad lately, allowing 20 runs over his last 16.1 innings with a 6:5 K:BB in that span. Overall, he's at a 6.36 ERA, 1.57 WHIP and 56:28 K:BB with 17 homers surrendered through 92 innings over 18 starts. His next start is projected to be in San Diego, but Gallen has gotten to the point where it's virtually impossible for fantasy manager's to trust him in any park or matchup.

  • Diamondbacks' Zac Gallen: Allows two homers in loss

Gallen (3-7) took the loss against the Rays on Friday, allowing five runs on four hits and two walks over 6.2 innings. He did not record a strikeout. Four of the five runs Gallen allowed came via the long ball, including a three-run homer off the bat of Junior Caminero in the first inning. While Gallen was able to work deep into the game, the 30-year-old generated just one swinging strike on 86 pitches and has now registered four or fewer strikeouts in six straight outings. He'll take a 6.15 ERA, 1.58 WHIP and 52:27 K:BB across 86.1 innings this season into a home matchup with the Giants next week.

  • Diamondbacks' Zac Gallen: Yields four runs in no-decision

Gallen did not factor into the decision Tuesday against Miami. He allowed four runs on nine hits and one walk while striking out three across 5.1 innings. It was the second straight start in which Gallen gave up nine hits. He's also given up at least four earned runs in three consecutive outings and in six of his last eight starts. Over 69.2 innings, the veteran right-hander has a 5.43 ERA and 1.55 WHIP, both of which are worst in the National League among qualified starters in 2026. Gallen's next start is slated for this weekend on the road against the Reds.

  • Diamondbacks' Zac Gallen: Gets no help in loss

Gallen (3-5) allowed five runs (four earned) on nine hits and two walks while striking out one over five innings to take the loss versus the Dodgers on Wednesday. Kyle Tucker's two-run home run in the second inning was the difference. Gallen didn't get much help -- the Diamondbacks managed just two hits and two walks in the whole game. Gallen has allowed at least four runs in five of his last seven outings, which makes him a risky option for most fantasy managers. On the year, he has a 5.32 ERA, 1.52 WHIP and 43:20 K:BB through 64.1 innings over 13 starts. The veteran right-hander's next start is projected to be on the road versus Miami.

  • Diamondbacks' Zac Gallen: Surrenders seven runs in loss

Gallen (1-4) took the loss against Texas on Tuesday, allowing seven runs on seven hits and two walks while striking out four batters over 4.2 innings. Gallen struggled from the outset, serving up a solo homer to Joc Pederson in the first inning. He trailed 3-0 entering the fifth, and then got just two outs in that frame while being charged with four more runs. Gallen managed just six whiffs among his 95 pitches and has now given up a combined 17 runs over his past three starts spanning 14.1 innings. That has pushed his season ERA up to an ugly 5.65.

  • Diamondbacks' Zac Gallen: Falls to 1-3

Gallen (1-3) took the loss against Pittsburgh on Thursday, pitching six innings during which he gave up four runs on six hits and two walks while striking out five batters. Gallen served up a solo homer to the second batter he faced but was able to make it through four frames with just that one run on his ledger. However, the veteran struggled late in this outing, allowing four straight batters to reach with two outs in the fifth frame to yield two runs before giving up another run on a solo homer in the sixth. Gallen was at least better than in his previous start, when he gave up six runs over 3.2 innings against the Cubs, but he's now at a mediocre 4.70 ERA with just one victory through eight starts on the season.

  • Diamondbacks' Zac Gallen: Mauled by Cubs

Gallen (1-2) took the loss Friday, coughing up six runs on seven hits and three walks over 3.2 innings as the Diamondbacks were downed 6-5 by the Cubs. He struck out three. Chicago ambushed the right-hander for three runs in the first inning, and another three-spot in the fourth chased Gallen from the game after 95 pitches (57 strikes). The performance ended a stretch of five straight starts in which he'd given up three runs or fewer, and Gallen will take a 4.45 ERA, 1.52 WHIP and 20:10 K:BB through 32.1 innings into his next outing, which lines up to come at home next week against the Pirates.

  • Diamondbacks' Zac Gallen: Cleared to start Friday

The Diamondbacks list Gallen (shoulder) as their starting pitcher for Friday's game against the Cubs, Jack Sommers of SI.com reports. Gallen had to be removed from his last outing after he was struck in the right shoulder by a comebacker, but he threw a bullpen session Wednesday without issue and will not have to miss a turn in the rotation. The veteran right-hander should be ready for a normal workload at Wrigley Field.

  • Diamondbacks' Zac Gallen: Cleared for mound work

Gallen (shoulder) is expected to throw a bullpen session Wednesday, Steve Gilbert of MLB.com reports. Gallen showed up at the ballpark Monday and played catch two days after being removed from his start in Saturday's 6-4 loss to the Padres. The right-hander expects to make his next start, which will likely come Friday against the Cubs at Wrigley Field.

  • Diamondbacks' Zac Gallen: Exits game with shoulder injury

Gallen was removed from Saturday's start against the Padres due to a right shoulder contusion, Jody Jackson of Bally Sports Arizona reports. Gallen was hit by a comebacker in the shoulder early in Saturday's contest, and while he initially stayed in the game, he was ultimately pulled at the end of the third inning. The 30-year-old finished his outing having allowed one hit and no walks while striking out three across three scoreless frames. The Diamondbacks should have an update on Gallen's injury once he undergoes more tests, but for now his next turn through the rotation is up in the air.

  • Diamondbacks' Zac Gallen: Works around traffic in no-decision

Gallen took a no-decision Saturday against the Blue Jays, allowing two runs on nine hits and no walks in 5.2 innings. He struck out three. Gallen was aggressive in attacking the zone Saturday, perhaps to a fault, considering he gave up a season-high nine hits while pouring in 63 of his 88 pitches for strikes. Although the veteran right-hander has managed to limit the damage while posting a 3.51 ERA on the year, he hasn't been particularly effective at preventing traffic while logging a 1.48 WHIP over his first 25.2 innings. Gallen has also fanned fewer than five in four of his first five starts, so he'll be looking for more punchouts his next time out versus San Diego.

  • Diamondbacks' Zac Gallen: Falters late in no-decision

Gallen did not factor into the decision in Sunday's 4-3 win over the Phillies, allowing three runs on eight hits and one walk with two strikeouts over five innings. Gallen opened with five scoreless frames before allowing five straight hits and three runs without recording an out in the sixth. It was a tough finish to an otherwise solid outing, though he generated just four swinging strikes on 84 pitches and yielded 15 hard-hit balls. The 30-year-old owns a 3.60 ERA, 1.45 WHIP and 11:7 K:BB across 20 innings in the early going and lines up for a home matchup against the Blue Jays next weekend.

  • Diamondbacks' Zac Gallen: Limits Mets in no-decision

Gallen did not factor into the decision Tuesday against the Mets, allowing two runs (one earned) on five hits and four walks while striking out five over five innings. Gallen ran into quick trouble, allowing three consecutive singles to open the game, but he managed to limit the damage to just one run on a sacrifice fly. The right-hander settled in nicely after the rocky start, allowing only two hits over his final four innings while pitching effectively through traffic. Though he wasn't especially efficient, issuing four walks and needing 95 pitches (54 strikes) to get through five innings, he kept Arizona in position to win before the bullpen let the lead slip away. Gallen now holds a 3.00 ERA, 1.33 WHIP and 9:6 K:BB through his first three outings of the season.

  • Diamondbacks' Zac Gallen: Makes penultimate spring start

Gallen allowed three runs on seven hits while striking out one over 2.2 innings in Saturday's spring start against the Giants. He also hit a batter. Gallen made his third Cactus League start and has one more to go before taking the ball Opening Day. He was pulled with two outs in the third inning and re-entered to begin the fourth but was gone for good after Daniel Susac jumped on a changeup left up in the zone for a home run. The right-hander told Jack Sommers of SI.com that he was working on his sinker and trying to improve the consistency of his changeup. Instead of tinkering with his arsenal in his final spring start, Gallen plans to approach it as he would a regular-season game, per Jose M. Romero of the Arizona Republic.

  • Diamondbacks' Zac Gallen: Set for Opening Day assignment

The Diamondbacks named Gallen as their starter for Opening Day against the Dodgers on March 26. Merrill Kelly had previously been tapped to start Opening Day for Arizona, but he will not be ready at that point as he recovers from a back injury. As a result, Gallen -- who re-signed with the Diamondbacks at the start of spring training -- will be making his fourth consecutive Opening Day start. Gallen had a disappointing 2025 campaign, finishing with a 4.83 ERA and 175:66 K:BB over 192 innings.

  • Zac Gallen: Receives qualifying offer

The Diamondbacks extended a one-year, $22.05 million qualifying offer to Gallen on Thursday, Jeff Passan of ESPN.com reports. Gallen is coming off the worst season of his MLB career, with his 4.83 ERA, 15 losses, 8.2 K/9 and 1.5 HR/9 all being career worsts. Though it's unclear just how large the market will be for Gallen after a down year, he could decline the qualifying offer in hopes of securing a long-term deal ahead of his age-30 campaign. If he does so and then signs elsewhere, Arizona would receive draft compensation.

  • Diamondbacks' Zac Gallen: Poor end to rough season

Gallen (13-15) allowed six runs (five earned) on seven hits and three walks while striking out three over 4.1 innings to take the loss versus the Padres on Friday. A Fernando Tatis grand slam in the fourth inning flipped this game in the Padres' favor. Gallen was pushed back a day after dealing with fatigue stemming from an illness in recent weeks, but his final start of 2025 was reflective of his year as a whole. The right-hander finishes the season at a career-worst 4.83 ERA while adding a 1.26 WHIP and 175:66 K:BB over 192 innings through 33 starts. He also gave up a career-high 31 homers, an area in which the 30-year-old will need to improve if he is to get back on track in 2026.

  • Diamondbacks' Zac Gallen: Pushed to Friday due to fatigue

Gallen's next start was pushed back a day to Friday in San Diego due to fatigue/illness, Jody Jackson of Bally Sports Arizona reports. It was Gallen's turn Thursday versus the Dodgers, but he's dealt with an illness during his last two starts that's sapped his strength. His performance in those outings appeared unaffected, as the righty yielded four runs with a 15:3 K:BB over 13 innings, but the Diamondbacks nonetheless made the decision to give Gallen an extra day of rest. Jalen Beeks is opening and Nabil Crismatt is slated for bulk relief Thursday.

  • Diamondbacks' Zac Gallen: Sharp in Monday's win

Gallen (12-14) allowed one run on two hits and a walk while striking out six over six innings to earn the win over the Giants on Monday. Gallen was stingy despite throwing just 57 of 96 pitches for strikes, with the lone run on his line being the result of a Casey Schmitt solo home run in the third inning. This was Gallen's fifth quality start in his last six outings, the lone exception being his five-run appearance in San Francisco last week. Gallen is now at a 4.73 ERA, 1.25 WHIP and 163:61 K:BB across 180.2 innings over 31 starts this season, though he has a 2.68 ERA in 53.2 innings through his last nine outings. He's projected for a tough home start versus the Phillies this weekend.
