  • Reds' Jeimer Candelario: Absent from Friday's lineup

Candelario is not in the lineup for Friday's game versus the White Sox.

Candelario is off to a dreadful 7-for-46 (.152) start at the plate this season, but this will be his first day off. The Reds will roll with Santiago Espinal at third base in Chicago.

  • Alec Bohm 3B | PHI

Phillies' Alec Bohm: Slugs long ball in victory

Bohm went 2-for-3 with a solo home run in a 5-1 win against the Pirates on Thursday.

Bohm got the Phillies on the board in the fourth inning with a 407-foot solo blast to center field. The homer was his first of the campaign after he went deep a career-high 20 times last season. Bohm is slashing .267/.365/.422 with eight RBI, four runs, a stolen base and a 7:12 BB:K through 52 plate appearances.

  • Max Muncy 3B | LAD

Dodgers' Max Muncy: Cranks second homer

Muncy went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Wednesday's 3-2 loss to the Twins.

Muncy led off the fourth inning with a 400-foot solo shot off Chris Paddack, tying the game 2-2. It's the second homer of the year for Muncy, who's now batting .250 with a .756 OPS and eight RBI through 14 games this season. The 33-year-old third baseman figures to see plenty of RBI chances while batting behind Freddie Freeman and Shohei Ohtani in the Dodgers' high-powered lineup.

  • Reds' Jeimer Candelario: Average plummets

Candelario went 0-for-3 and was hit by a pitch in Wednesday's 7-2 loss to the Brewers.

Candelario has one hit over the last 18 at-bats, dropping his average to .152 and OPS to .535 for the season. Those are unbecoming numbers for a cleanup hitter. He's part of a big hole in the middle of the Reds' order along with third place batter Christian Encarnacion-Strand (.154/.417). The slump is causing Candelario to chase more than normal; he's swinging at a career-high 36 percent of offerings outside the zone.

  • Jake Burger 3B | TEX

Marlins' Jake Burger: Clubs three-run home run

Burger went 1-for-4 with a three-run homer in Wednesday's 5-2 win over the Yankees.

Burger entered the game in a bit of a cold spell, having gone 1-for-15 since his two-homer performance on April 4. While his three-run home run off Marcus Stroman was Burger's only hit of the day, the round-tripper could be what the third baseman needed to break out of the slump. Through 13 games, Burger is slashing .260/.291/.480 and is tied for the league lead with 15 RBI.

  • Eugenio Suarez 3B | CIN

Diamondbacks' Eugenio Suarez: Game-deciding hit snaps slump

Suarez went 1-for-5 with a double and two RBI in Wednesday's 5-3 win over Colorado.

Suarez provided the game-deciding hit in the top of the ninth inning when he lofted a bloop double to left field that plated Arizona's final two runs. The hit snapped an 0-for-17 skid for the third baseman, who has a 1.136 OPS and eight RBI with runners in scoring position.

  • Tyler Wade SS | TEX

Padres' Tyler Wade: Gaining traction at hot corner

Wade will start at third base and bat ninth in Wednesday's game against the Cubs.

Wade had been part of a messy three-man timeshare at third base during the first full week of the regular season, but he seems to have moved into a larger side of the platoon with Eguy Rosario at the position after the Padres cleared up the logjam by optioning Graham Pauley to Triple-A El Paso on Tuesday. The 29-year-old Wade will garner his fifth straight start Wednesday after going 1-for-9 with a walk and a stolen base over the previous four contests. Both Wade and Rosario will lose out on opportunities at the hot corner once Manny Machado -- who has been limited to designated-hitter duties thus far -- completes his throwing program as he works his way back from October surgery to repair a tendon in his right elbow.

  • Nick Madrigal 3B | LAA

Cubs' Nick Madrigal: Sitting in fourth straight

Madrigal is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Padres.

Madrigal will take a seat for the fourth consecutive game, with each of those absences coming against right-handed pitchers. At least for the time being, Mike Tauchman appears to have edged ahead of Madrigal for the final spot in the Cubs' regular lineup versus righties.

  • Oliver Dunn 2B | CHW

Brewers' Oliver Dunn: Bows out of lineup

Dunn is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Reds.

Dunn will take a seat after he went 1-for-10 with four strikeouts through the first two games of the series in Cincinnati, halting some of the momentum he had built during his hot start to the season. Joey Ortiz will replace Dunn at third base Wednesday, but the latter still looks to have a grasp on a regular role at this point.

  • Cubs' Christopher Morel: Clobbers grand slam

Morel went 2-for-4 with a grand slam during Tuesday's 5-1 win over San Diego.

Morel launched his third homer of 2024 on Tuesday, tagging reliever Stephen Kolek for the grand slam on Kolek's first pitch out of the bullpen. The long ball was Morel's first grand slam of his career. He's now logged a hit in 10 of his 11 games this season and is slashing .326/.370/.605 with an excellent 10.9 percent strikeout rate across 46 plate appearances.
