  • Yankees' Ryan McMahon: Idle against southpaw

McMahon is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Tigers.

The left-handed-hitting McMahon will head to the bench for the second time in three games while the Yankees face off against another lefty (Framber Valdez) in the series opener. Platoon mate Amed Rosario will replace McMahon at third base and will bat leadoff.

  • Yankees' Ryan McMahon: Swats eighth homer Thursday

McMahon went 1-for-3 with a solo home run against the White Sox in a loss Thursday.

McMahon produced New York's only run of the game with a 430-foot blast in the third inning. It was the veteran third baseman's first extra-base hit since June 8, a span of eight games. Extending further, McMahon has batted just .233 with two homers and four RBI through 13 games in June. His .639 OPS over 67 contests is on pace for his career-worst mark over a full MLB season.

  • Yankees' Ryan McMahon: Out against lefty

McMahon is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the White Sox.

The Yankees will go with a right-handed-heavy lineup to counter White Sox southpaw Anthony Kay, so McMahon will retreat to the bench along with fellow left-handed hitters Spencer Jones and J.C. Escarra. Amed Rosario will step in for McMahon at third base and will bat third.

  • Yankees' Ryan McMahon: Taking seat against southpaw

McMahon is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Guardians.

After going 3-for-5 with a solo home run and a walk while starting at third base in the first two games of the series, the left-handed-hitting McMahon will be held out of the lineup for the finale while southpaw Parker Messick toes the rubber for Cleveland. Amed Rosario will replace McMahon at third base and will bat cleanup.

  • Yankees' Ryan McMahon: Swats seventh homer

McMahon went 1-for-2 with a solo home run in Monday's 7-5, extra-inning win over Cleveland.

McMahon's homer was a big one, as it broke a 3-3 tie in the fifth inning. After going deep just three times over his first 45 games, the veteran third baseman has been flashing more power of late, hitting four long balls across his past past 14 contests. McMahon is batting a solid .293 over that span, though that comes with a 0:14 BB:K. In fact, McMahon hasn't drawn a walk since May 7, a span of 23 games.

  • Yankees' Ryan McMahon: Idle against southpaw

McMahon is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Athletics.

McMahon is in the midst of one of his best stretches of the season, having gone 9-for-29 (.310 average) with three home runs, one stolen base, six RBI and five runs over his last eight games. The Yankees will hold him out of the starting nine Sunday with southpaw Jacob Lopez on the hill, but the left-handed-hitting McMahon should continue to receive regular at-bats against right-handed pitching while he's swinging a hot bat.

  • Yankees' Ryan McMahon: Homers again Friday

McMahon went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Friday's 8-2 win over the Athletics.

McMahon continues to heat up -- he's gone 7-for-25 (.280) with three homers and six RBI over his last seven games. The third baseman is now hitting .200 with a .613 OPS, 19 RBI, 15 runs scored, four doubles and three stolen bases over 158 plate appearances this season. As long as he's hitting well, he should maintain a strong-side platoon role at the hot corner.

  • Yankees' Ryan McMahon: Launches homer Wednesday

McMahon went 2-for-4 with a two-run home run and an additional run scored in Wednesday's 7-0 win over the Royals.

McMahon had been on the bench for the previous two games, presumably for matchup-related reasons. He's not struggling right now -- the third baseman has gone 6-for-21 (.286) with two homers, five RBI and a stolen base over his last six contests. On the season, he's hitting just .199 with a .594 OPS, five homers, 18 RBI, 14 runs scored, three steals and four doubles across 51 contests. McMahon has primarily worked as a strong-side platoon option this season. If his overall numbers don't improve, he could cede some time to Amed Rosario, who has an .835 OPS over 45 plate appearances versus right-handed pitchers despite being McMahon's main platoon partner at the hot corner.

  • Yankees' Ryan McMahon: Opening Tuesday's game on bench

McMahon is out of the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Royals.

Left-hander Bailey Falter is opening the game on the mound for the Royals, so the left-handed-hitting McMahon will begin the contest on the bench. He could end up subbing in for Amed Rosario -- who will start at third base -- at some point during Tuesday's game once Falter exits.

  • Yankees' Ryan McMahon: Absent from lineup versus righty

McMahon is not in the lineup for Monday's tilt in Kansas City.

It's a rare instance of the left-handed-hitting McMahon not starting against a right-hander, but it makes sense because righty Michael Wacha has reverse splits. Jose Caballero will slide over to third base and Anthony Volpe will start at second base for the Yankees.

  • Yankees' Ryan McMahon: Breaks out of drought Tuesday

McMahon went 2-for-4 with a three-run home run and a steal during the Yankees' 5-4 win over the Blue Jays on Tuesday.

Dylan Cease dominated the Yankees' bats through the first three innings of Tuesday's game, but McMahon came up big for his team with a three-run homer to left field that tied things up at 3-3. It was a much-needed performance out of the veteran third baseman, who entered the game with a .541 OPS (in 133 plate appearances) and having gone 0-for-23 across his seven prior outings.

  • Yankees' Ryan McMahon: Hitting bench against southpaw

McMahon is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Blue Jays.

Lefty Patrick Corbin is starting the game for Toronto, so the left-handed-hitting McMahon will bow out of the lineup as Amed Rosario receives the nod at third base. McMahon has gone 0-for-23 over his last six starts, bringing his batting average down to .183 on the season.

  • Yankees' Ryan McMahon: Getting rest Saturday

McMahon isn't in the starting lineup Saturday versus the Mets.

McMahon has gone 0-for-19 with no walks and eight strikeouts over his past five games to bring his season OPS down to a paltry .559. The Yankees are giving him a day off Saturday in hopes that will spark a reset. Amed Rosario is getting a start at the hot corner in McMahon's stead.

  • Yankees' Ryan McMahon: Sitting in series finale

McMahon is out of the lineup for Thursday's game against the Rangers.

With left-hander MacKenzie Gore on the hill for Texas in a day game after a night game, the left-handed-hitting McMahon will receive a breather. Amed Rosario will cover third base and bat cleanup while McMahon sits.

  • Yankees' Ryan McMahon: Blasts third homer Tuesday

McMahon went 2-for-4 with a two-run home run and an additional run scored in Tuesday's 7-4 win over the Rangers.

McMahon provided an early spark, launching a two-run homer off Jacob deGrom in the second inning -- his third of the year. The veteran infielder has quietly started to turn things around at the plate after a slow start to the season, entering Tuesday batting .286 with a 120 wRC+ over his previous 16 games. McMahon is now slashing .216/.296/.341 with two doubles, 11 RBI and 10 runs scored across 98 plate appearances.

  • Yankees' Ryan McMahon: Out against lefty again

McMahon is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Red Sox.

McMahon is on the bench for the fifth time in six games while the Yankees navigate a stretch that's been heavy on matchups with left-handed starting pitchers. Amed Rosario will get the nod at third base in McMahon's stead Wednesday while southpaw Ranger Suarez takes the hill for Boston.

  • Yankees' Ryan McMahon: Sitting against righty

McMahon is not in the starting lineup for Friday's game against the Royals.

Even with right-hander Michael Wacha on the mound for the Royals, McMahon will sit in favor of Amed Rosario at third base. McMahon is batting .111 with a sky-high 32.6 percent strikeout rate in 43 trips to the plate against right-handed pitching this season. McMahon is also hitting 59.1 percent of his batted balls on the ground versus righties.

  • Yankees' Ryan McMahon: Taking seat against southpaw

McMahon is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Angels.

He'll head to the bench along with fellow left-handed hitters Ben Rice and Trent Grisham while the Yankees stock up some extra right-handed bats to counter Angels southpaw Yusei Kikuchi. Amed Rosario will step in at third base in place of McMahon, who owns a .376 OPS over 42 plate appearances on the season.
