  • Vidal Brujan SS | NYM

Marlins' Vidal Brujan: Back in action

Brujan (undisclosed) is batting seventh and playing second base Tuesday against Boston.

Brujan was scratched from Saturday's game against Philadelphia for unspecified reasons and remained out of the lineup for Sunday's contest. However, he'll enter the starting nine at second base Tuesday while Xavier Edwards plays shortstop. With Tim Anderson booted from the 40-man roster, Brujan should see regular playing time in the infield moving forward.

  • Austin Wynns C | TEX

Reds' Austin Wynns: Cut from 40-man roster

The Reds designated Wynns for assignment Tuesday.

Wynns was up as protection at catcher for a few days while Tyler Stephenson was away but is no longer needed with the latter back in the fold. He cleared waivers and accepted an outright assignment to Triple-A Louisville last month, and he seems likely to do so again.

  • Reds' Tyler Stephenson: Rejoins roster

The Reds activated Stephenson (personal) from the family medical emergency list Tuesday.

Stephenson was away from the club for a few days following the birth of his child but is back for the start of its series in New York against the Yankees. Austin Wynns was designated for assignment in a corresponding move.

  • Nick Gordon CF | BAL

Marlins' Nick Gordon: Sitting against RHP

Gordon is out of the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Red Sox.

Gordon is riding a seven-game hit steak, but he'll be idle for a second consecutive contest despite righty Kutter Crawford being on the mound for Boston. Bryan De La Cruz will fill left field and bat second Tuesday.

  • Pirates' Edward Olivares: Taking seat Tuesday

Olivares is not in the lineup for Tuesday's game versus the Cardinals.

He's been the preferred option over Connor Joe in right field for the Pirates lately, but Joe is getting the call there for Tuesday's contest. Olivares had started seven of the previous eight contests.

  • Joe Kelly RP | LAD

Dodgers' Joe Kelly: Set for rehab assignment

Kelly (shoulder) will begin a rehab assignment with Single-A Rancho Cucamonga on Tuesday.

Dodgers manager Dave Roberts implied this past weekend that Kelly was unlikely to return before the All-Star break, but this would seem to indicate that he could be a little ahead of schedule. The right-handed reliever has missed nearly two months with a right shoulder strain, so he would figure to require a few rehab appearances before being activated.

  • Jose Butto SP | SF

Mets' Jose Butto: Summoned to help bullpen

The Mets recalled Butto from Triple-A Syracuse on Tuesday, Anthony DiComo of MLB.com reports.

All seven of Butto's 2024 appearances with the Mets to this point have come as a starting pitcher, but he will be used in relief this time around in order to provide some length for an overused bullpen. The right-hander has collected a 3.08 ERA and 38:21 K:BB over 38 innings in the majors this season.

  • Tyler Jay SP | MIL

Mets' Tyler Jay: Returns to Triple-A

The Mets optioned Jay to Triple-A Syracuse on Tuesday.

The 30-year-old had his contract selected by New York on Sunday and appeared in Monday's matchup with the Nationals, allowing four runs (three earned) in two-thirds of an inning. Jay will return to Syracuse, where he has a 2.00 ERA, 1.00 WHIP and 23:4 K:BB across 36 frames this year.

  • Xavier Edwards 2B | MIA

Marlins' Xavier Edwards: Recalled from Triple-A

The Marlins recalled Edwards from Triple-A Jacksonville on Tuesday, Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reports.

Edwards is taking the roster spot vacated by Tim Anderson, who has been designated for assignment. The switch-hitting Edwards could also get a shot at shortstop in Anderson's place, although he will have to contend with Vidal Brujan there for playing time. Edwards is a potential stolen-base contributor in fantasy should he receive regular reps, although it's a question as to whether he'll ultimately hit enough to be able to take advantage of that speed.

  • Hunter Harvey RP | CHC

Nationals' Hunter Harvey: Struggles continue Monday

Harvey (2-4) took the loss Monday against the Mets, surrendering five runs (four earned) on three hits over two-thirds of an inning as the Nationals fell 9-7 in 10 innings.

The final frame was a disaster for Harvey and the Nats -- after the right-hander hit Harrison Bader with a pitch, J.D. Martinez crushed a splitter over the heart of the plate for a three-run shot before extra-base hits by Tyrone Taylor and Francisco Alvarez chased Harvey from the game. The normally reliable set-up man has been tagged for eight earned runs in his last four appearances, and his ERA has more than doubled over the last month, going from 2.08 after an appearance June 2 to 4.24 following Monday's outing.
