  • Guardians' Patrick Bailey: On bench again Sunday

Bailey is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Red Sox. After making consecutive starts behind the plate to begin the week, Bailey will now hit the bench for the third time in four contests. Austin Hedges will get the nod at catcher over Bailey once again Sunday. Since he was acquired from the Giants on May 9, Bailey has slashed .148/.200/.333 with a home run and four RBI in 10 games.

  • Guardians' Patrick Bailey: Taking seat for series finale

Bailey is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Nationals. Austin Hedges will handle the catching duties for the matinee Wednesday while Bailey rests up after he was behind the plate for six innings of the Guardians' 6-3 loss Tuesday night. Since being acquired from the Giants earlier this month, Bailey has gone 3-for-25 (.120 average) with one home run, one double, two walks and three RBI through his first nine games with Cleveland.

  • Guardians' Patrick Bailey: Out of lineup again Tuesday

Bailey is not in the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Tigers. It's the second straight day on the bench for Bailey, who has yet to start consecutive games since arriving in Cleveland via trade. Austin Hedges is behind the dish for the Guardians again Tuesday, and the two backstops figure to continue sharing the job pretty evenly.

  • Guardians' Patrick Bailey: Left out of lineup Monday

Bailey is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Tigers. Austin Hedges will handle catching duties in the series opener while Bailey retreats to the bench. Since being acquired from the Giants earlier this month, Bailey has yet to make starts on consecutive days and looks like he'll be part of a timeshare at catcher with his new club.

  • Guardians' Patrick Bailey: Taking seat Saturday

Bailey isn't in the lineup for Saturday's game against the Reds. Since Bailey made his team debut Sunday, he has alternated starts with Austin Hedges behind the plate. Saturday will mark the latter's turn to handle catching duties.

  • Guardians' Patrick Bailey: Left out of lineup

Bailey is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Angels. In four games with his new team, the switch-hitting Bailey has been in the lineup both times against righties and out of the lineup on both occasions versus lefties. While Bailey could continue to sit against southpaws, it's also possible his absence from Wednesday's lineup is simply due to it being an afternoon game after he started Tuesday night. Another factor into the decision to sit Bailey is that Parker Messick is Wednesday's starter, and Austin Hedges has been his personal catcher.

  • Guardians' Patrick Bailey: Taking seat Monday

Bailey is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Angels. David Fry will get the nod at catcher over Bailey, who went 0-for-3 at the dish in Sunday's 5-4 loss to the Twins in his Guardians debut. Bailey is expected to see the lion's share of the playing time behind the dish with his new club, but the 26-year-old backstop likely won't carry much fantasy appeal outside of two-catcher mixed leagues or AL-only leagues. He's batting just .141/.207/.176 on the season, with his .383 OPS placing him last among all catchers who have logged at least 70 plate appearances.

  • Guardians' Patrick Bailey: Dealt to Cleveland

The Guardians acquired Bailey from the Giants on Saturday in exchange for left-hander Matt Wilkinson and the 29th pick in the 2026 First-Year Player Draft, Jeff Passan of ESPN.com reports. Bailey was starting to see his playing time with the Giants trend down after beginning the season with just a .396 OPS through 89 plate appearances. The Guardians have also been fighting to get consistent production out of the catcher spot, as Bo Naylor has struggled to the tune of a .438 OPS over his first 28 games and will now head down to Triple-A following Cleveland's acquisition of Bailey. Although he hasn't produced much at the plate, Bailey's elite defense should allow him to at least work in a timeshare behind the dish with Austin Hedges.

  • Giants' Patrick Bailey: Sitting Monday

Bailey is not in the Giants' starting lineup against the Padres on Monday. Bailey will ride the pine for a second consecutive game, only this time it'll be Jesus Rodriguez who will serve behind home plate and bat eighth in his major-league debut. Bailey has slashed .159/.221/.206 with two steals, one home run, four RBI and a 5:16 BB:K across 68 plate appearances since April 1.

Bailey is not in the Giants' starting lineup against the Marlins on Friday, Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports. Bailey is not in the lineup for Friday's game versus the Nationals. Giants manager Tony Vitello hinted Thursday that he might start deploying a timeshare at catcher. • Giants' Patrick Bailey: Idle Wednesday

Bailey is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Reds, Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports. After starting behind the dish in 13 of the Giants' first 15 games, Bailey will now take a seat for the second time in three contests. Rookie Daniel Susac will draw the start at catcher Wednesday, but Bailey will presumably check back into the lineup for Thursday's series finale.

  • Giants' Patrick Bailey: Homers again Tuesday

Bailey went 1-for-2 with a solo home run and a walk in Tuesday's 5-3 win over the Diamondbacks. Bailey's September surge continues -- he's hit three of his five homers on the year over the course of his last eight games. In that span, he's batting .346 (9-for-26). Bailey has added 32 points to his slugging percentage since closing at a low mark of .286 on Sept. 1, though he still has just a .594 OPS with 46 RBI, 40 runs scored and a stolen base across 119 contests in 2025.

Bailey is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Cardinals, Justice delos Santos of The San Jose Mercury News reports.
