Single-A Palm Beach placed Holiday on the injured list with an undisclosed injury, Sam Dykstra of MLB Pipeline reports.

Holiday, the Cardinals' third-round pick last year, has yet to make his pro debut. He logged a 2.95 ERA, 0.89 WHIP and 128 strikeouts in 113 innings in 2024 for Oklahoma State.

Strider (elbow) is making a rehab start Friday for Triple-A Gwinnett, Grant McAuley of 92.9 The Game Atlanta reports.

The right-hander threw 60 pitches over three innings during his first rehab start with Gwinnett last weekend, and he'll continue building up his workload Friday. Strider is almost exactly one year removed from undergoing internal brace surgery on his right elbow, and he'll likely require another rehab start or two after Friday before rejoining the Atlanta rotation.

Brujan's recovery from a right elbow strain has stalled, Maddie Lee of the Chicago Sun-Times reports.

Throwing in particular remains an issue for Brujan. It's not clear whether he will be shut down for a bit or just limited in his activities, but either way the utility player is not close to coming off the 10-day injured list.

Assad (oblique) will throw two innings in an extended spring training game Friday, Maddie Lee of the Chicago Sun-Times reports.

He's expected to make an additional appearance in extended spring training after that before heading out on a formal rehab assignment. That would seem to point to Assad being at least a couple weeks away from rejoining the Cubs. Ben Brown is currently holding down the No. 5 spot in Chicago's rotation.

Sheets is not in the lineup for Friday's game against the Cubs, Kevin Acee of The San Diego Union-Tribune reports.

Southpaw Shota Imanaga is taking the mound for Chicago, so it's not a surprise that Sheets finds himself on the bench. He has a 1.196 OPS through 19 plate appearances, all but one of which have come against right-handed pitching. Yuli Gurriel will bat sixth as the designated hitter, as the pair continue to platoon at the position.

Mets manager Carlos Mendoza said Friday that McNeil (oblique) has been hitting off a machine in the batting cage, SNY.tv reports.

McNeil is working his way back from a right oblique strain, which he suffered in mid-March. He is surely going to require a rehab assignment before returning and it's not clear when that might come, but he's progressing.

Alvarez is ramping up baseball activities as he works his way back from surgery on a fractured hamate bone in his left hand. There is no firm timeline yet for Alvarez's return, but he could still rejoin the Mets before the end of April.

Double-A Springfield placed Church on the injured list with an undisclosed injury, Sam Dykstra of MLB Pipeline reports.

Church, a 24-year-old outfielder, logged a .268/.331/.373 slash line with nine home runs and 24 steals in 127 games at Double-A last year.

The Nationals recalled Rutledge from Triple-A Rochester on Friday.

The right-hander missed out on the Opening Day roster but will join the Nationals as Michael Soroka (bicep) heads to the injured list. Rutledge has worked as a starter for most of his professional career, but he's unlikely to fill Soroka's spot in the rotation as anything other than an opener -- he shifted to a relief role in spring training and worked out of the bullpen in his first two appearances of the season for Rochester.

Diaz is absent from the lineup for Friday's game versus the Cubs, AJ Cassavell of MLB.com reports.

It's a routine day off for Diaz, who is 3-for-13 at the dish in the early going this season. Martin Maldonado will catch and bat ninth for the Padres in Friday's series opener.
