Brewers' JoJo Romero: Ready for rehab assignment
Romero (appendectomy) will begin a rehab assignment Tuesday at High-A Wisconsin.
The 29-year-old southpaw will be making his organizational debut, after the Cardinals placed him on the injured list coming out of the All-Star break following his emergency appendectomy before trading him to the Brewers on Aug. 3. Because he's been out for more than a month, the Brewers will likely want Romero to make multiple appearances in the minors before clearing him to join the big-league bullpen. He could be a candidate for activation when the roster expands to 28 men Sept. 1.

Brewers' JoJo Romero: Facing hitters Friday
Romero (abdomen) will throw a live batting practice session Friday, Adam McCalvy of MLB.com reports.
Romero is slated for a multi-inning bullpen session Tuesday before facing hitters Friday. If things go well during his live BP, Romero will be cleared to begin a rehab assignment. Coming back from an appendectomy, Romero should join the Brewers' bullpen later this month.

Brewers' JoJo Romero: Targeting late-August return
Romero (abdomen) is expected to be activated from the 15-day injured list before the end of August, Adam McCalvy of MLB.com reports.
Romero was dealt from the Cardinals to the Brewers at the deadline, but he's been on the shelf since July 14 due to appendicitis. While initial injury updates while he was with the Cardinals pointed to a mid-August return, McCalvy notes that Romero still needs to successfully make it through several side sessions and a rehab assignment, which should set him up for his Milwaukee debut before the end of the month.

The Cardinals placed Romero on the 15-day injured list Friday, retroactive to Tuesday, due to appendicitis.
Romero has been one of the most reliable members of St. Louis' bullpen as of late, allowing just two runs (one earned) while striking out nine batters and walking four across his last 10 innings, but he'll now have to wait until at least July 29 to make his first appearance of the second half. Romero leads all of baseball with 20 holds this season.
While the left-handed reliever has been valuable for leagues that have holds as a category, he's trended in the wrong direction since the beginning of June in yielding eight runs over 10.1 innings. Romero is the only trusted lefty reliever the Cardinals have, so he should continue to stay busy, though the impending free agent will be a trade candidate this month.

Cardinals' JoJo Romero: Blows second save
Romero was charged with a blown save after allowing a hit and striking out one over one inning during a 2-1 loss to Milwaukee on Wednesday. He allowed two inherited runners to score.
Starter Dustin May fired seven no-hit frames before giving up two hits to open the eighth, and Romero was called upon to escape the jam. The left-hander nearly did so unscathed, inducing a fielder's choice grounder and recording strikeout before a single and an error brought home two runs for Milwaukee. Despite the blown save, Romero has been cruising through his last 10 appearances, tallying six holds and allowing just one earned run while striking out 12 through 10.2 innings.

Cardinals' JoJo Romero: Hits rough patch
Romero took the loss in Sunday's game against the Mariners, serving up tiebreaking solo home run in the top of the ninth inning.
Romero initially had Rob Refsnyder struck out on a called strike three, but Refsnyder successfully had the call overturned and then proceeded to club his second home run of the season. After being unscored upon in his first 10 appearances of the season, Romero has yielded a total of six runs over 2.1 frames covering his last three outings. The left-hander has notched seven holds this season and will remain the Cardinals' primary left-handed setup man, despite the recent rough stretch.
