Gurriel began a rehab assignment with the Aces and played eight innings in the field. The outfielder is in the midst of his third IL stint this season. He missed the start of the year while rehabbing from a torn ACL and then suffered a left hamstring injury in May before the adductor hit him in July. The Diamondbacks have a crowded outfield, and there is a question of how exactly Gurriel will fit in once he's ready.

Despite getting in some live at-bats, Gurriel remains at a low-intensity stage of his rehab program as he works his way back from a right adductor strain. According to Alex Weiner of ArizonaSports.com, Gurriel still needs to ramp up his running progression, so he may not be ready for a formal rehab assignment until he's capable of playing the outfield and running the bases without restriction.

Gurriel landed on the 10-day injured list just after the All-Star break with a strained right adductor. With Jordan Lawlar (hamstring) likely to beat Gurriel back from the IL and Lars Nootbaar being acquired via trade, it's unclear that Gurriel's role will look like upon his return.
