  • Diamondbacks' Lourdes Gurriel: Hoping to return when eligible

Gurriel's hamstring injury is believed to be fairly minor, Nick Piecoro of The Arizona Republic reports. Manager Torey Lovullo said Saturday the hope is Gurriel will be able to return from the injured list when first eligible.

Gurriel injured his hamstring while sliding to make a catch in the outfield Friday, leading to his placement on the 10-day IL. It sounds like both the player and team expect him back when he's first eligible to return on June 2, but in the meantime Tommy Troy will get a look in left field for the Diamondbacks.

  • Diamondbacks' Lourdes Gurriel: Lands on injured list

The Diamondbacks placed Gurriel on the 10-day injured list Saturday with a left hamstring strain.

Gurriel was pulled from Friday's contest with hamstring tightness after making a sliding catch in the outfield. Further evaluation confirmed that he suffered a strain, so he'll move to the injured list and remain sidelined until at least June 2. In the meantime, Jorge Barrosa and Tim Tawa are candidates for extra reps in the outfield, though Tommy Troy looks like the main beneficiary in terms of playing time.

  • Diamondbacks' Lourdes Gurriel: Exits with trainer

Gurriel was removed from Friday's game against the Rockies with left hamstring tightness.

Gurriel was taken out of the game after making a sliding catch in left field. It's not immediately clear how serious his injury is, but the Diamondbacks may provide more details in the near future. Jorge Barrosa entered the game as Gurriel's replacement and would be the favorite to work as Arizona's left fielder in any future games the latter has to miss.

  • Diamondbacks' Lourdes Gurriel: Clouts first homer in win

Gurriel went 2-for-5 with a home run and two RBI in Sunday's 8-6 win over Colorado.

Gurriel had a run-producing single in the third inning and then belted a solo home run in the fifth. It was the first homer of the season for Gurriel, who's had a slow start since being activated off the 60-day injured list in April; however, the bat has showed recent life. He's knocked in at least one run in four of his last five games and is 6-for-20 with three extra-base hits and five RBI during that span.

  • Diamondbacks' Lourdes Gurriel: Hitless in return to lineup

Gurriel started in left field and went 0-for-4 in Saturday's 6-4 loss to San Diego.

Gurriel returned to the lineup after getting a two-day breather (including an off-day for Arizona), but his bat remained cold. The outfielder, who was 1-for-16 before the break, extended a hitless run to 13 consecutive at-bats. He's yet to barrel up a pitch and owns a 13.3 hard-hit percentage, suggesting he doesn't have his swing timing down.

  • Diamondbacks' Lourdes Gurriel: Absent from Arizona lineup

  • Diamondbacks' Jorge Barrosa: Homers off bench

Barrosa went 1-for-2 with a two-run home run in Sunday's 10-4 loss to the Blue Jays.

Barrosa entered the game as a defensive replacement for Corbin Carroll (back), but Carroll is expected to be fine for Tuesday versus the White Sox, per Alex D'Agostino of SI.com. As long as the Diamondbacks have their preferred outfield of Lourdes Gurriel, Alek Thomas and Carroll (from left to right) available, Barrosa is likely to be limited to a part-time role at best, though he could carve out some at-bats as a switch hitter. Barrosa's homer was his first of the season to go with five RBI, seven runs scored, seven doubles, one triple and a .243/.283/.480 slash line over 55 plate appearances.

  • Diamondbacks' Lourdes Gurriel: Debuts in left field

Gurriel started in left field and went 0-for-4 in Saturday's 6-2 win over Toronto.

Gurriel made his season debut and return from ACL surgery. It was also significant that he played left field, as manager Torey Lovullo earlier suggested that Gurriel would be given a slow buildup as the designated hitter. With Jordan Lawlar (wrist) out until at least early June, however, Arizona's roster needs have changed since then.
