Brazoban will serve as the Mets' opening pitcher in Wednesday's game versus the Diamondbacks, Anthony DiComo of MLB.com reports.

Brazoban will be making his second appearance of the season as an opener after tossing a scoreless inning earlier this month against the Twins. He'll be followed Wednesday by Brandon Waddell, who is expected to serve as the Mets' bulk reliever.

The Cubs plan to select Flexen's contract from Triple-A Iowa, Jesse Rogers of ESPN.com reports.

Flexen could have opted out of his minor-league contract May 1 if not added to the big-league roster by then, and the Cubs have decided to keep him around. The righty changed his arm slot at Iowa and has posted a 1.16 ERA and 21:8 K:BB over 23.1 frames covering five starts. He's expected to serve in a long-relief role for now and will be officially added to the roster Wednesday or Thursday.

The Reds recalled Callihan from Triple-A Louisville on Wednesday. He'll start in left field and bat ninth in the first game of Wednesday's doubleheader versus the Cardinals.

He'll join the 26-man active roster as a replacement for corner infielder Jeimer Candelario (spine), who was placed on the 10-day injured list. The 24-year-old had gotten off to a nice start to the season at Louisville, slashing .303/.410/.528 with four home runs and six stolen bases over 106 plate appearances. Callihan is capable of playing three infield spots as well as left field, but his left-handedness could work against him in earning meaningful playing time, as he won't represent a viable platoon mate for fellow lefty hitters Jake Fraley and Gavin Lux.

Peralta (3-2) got the win over the White Sox on Tuesday, allowing two runs on three hits and three walks while striking out five over six innings.

The White Sox quickly jumped on Peralta with two solo home runs in the opening frame, but he was able to settle in with five hitless and scoreless innings the rest of the way. Tuesday marked the first time in four starts that Peralta allowed a home run and also the second time this year he's reached six innings. He's allowed three runs or fewer in every start thus far, leading to a 2.52 ERA and 1.07 WHIP. Peralta lines up for a home start against the Cubs this weekend to wrap up a two-start week.

The Reds placed Candelario on the 10-day injured list Wednesday due to a lumbar spine strain.

Candelario informed the Reds earlier this week that he was dealing with a lower-back issue, and the 31-year-old corner infielder was diagnosed with a strain after being sent in for further evaluation. Even before the injury surfaced, Candelario had played himself out of an everyday role, slashing just .113/.198/.213 over 91 plate appearances. Cincinnati recalled infielder Tyler Callihan to replace Candelario on the 26-man active roster.

The Reds added Petty to their taxi squad ahead of Wednesday's doubleheader with the Cardinals in Cincinnati. Petty is slated to start the second game of the twin bill.

With a rainout Tuesday creating a stretch of six games in five days for the Reds, Petty will step in to serve as a temporary sixth starter. The 22-year-old righty is expected to be sent back to Louisville after the start, but a strong showing versus the Cardinals could solidify his case for joining the Reds on a longer-term basis later on in the season if a more permanent opening in the rotation should emerge. Through his five outings with Louisville this season, Petty owns a 3.52 ERA, 1.30 WHIP and 27:9 K:BB across 23 innings.

Hernandez went 4-for-5 with two doubles, two runs scored and four RBI in Tuesday's 15-2 win over the Marlins.

Hernandez has hit safely in eight straight games and banged out at least one extra-base hit in seven of them, batting .400 (14-for-35) over that stretch with five doubles, four homers, nine runs and 14 RBI. The hot streak has boosted his OPS on the season to .926, which would be a career-best mark.

Pages went 3-for-5 with a home run, two runs scored, two RBI and a stolen base in Tuesday's 15-2 rout of the Marlins.

The 24-year-old capped his big night by clubbing a 60-mph eephus pitch from position player Javier Sanoja over the left-field fence for a solo shot in the eighth inning. Pages is as hot as any hitter in the majors right now, racking up five multi-hit performance in the last seven games -- a stretch in which he's batting .586 (17-for-29) with four homers, three steals, eight RBI and nine runs.

Contreras went 1-for-3 with two walks, a steal, an RBI and a run scored in Tuesday's win over the White Sox.

Contreras had an RBI single in the sixth to knot the game at two apiece and extend his hit streak to eight games. He's had at least one hit in all but one game in which he's appeared since April 5. His early power numbers are down from previous seasons, but he's posted a career-high walk rate and career-low strikeout rate over the first month and he's well on pace to reach double-digit steals for the first time after swiping his fourth bag Tuesday.

Ohtani went 1-for-4 with a walk, a solo home run, a second run scored and a stolen base in Tuesday's 15-2 win over the Marlins.

The 30-year-old superstar set the tone for the night when he ripped the first pitch he saw from Sandy Alcantara down the right-field line for a leadoff homer. It was Ohtani's first homer since becoming a new father earlier this month, but it hasn't been a distraction for him -- over his last 11 games, he's slashing .311/.415/.622 with three long balls, four steals, five RBI and 14 runs.
