  • Reds' Andrew Abbott: Solid in no-decision

Abbott did not factor into the decision Sunday against the Diamondbacks, allowing a run on four hits and three walks over five innings. He struck out five. Abbott was sharp Sunday, with the lone run he allowed coming on a Tommy Troy solo homer in the third inning. Abbott has held opponents to three runs or fewer while going at least five innings in each of his last nine starts, posting a 2.29 ERA in that span (51 innings). Overall, Abbott's ERA is down to 3.95 with a 1.41 WHIP and 58:36 K:BB across 15 starts (79.2 innings) this season. The southpaw is currently lined up to face the Yankees on the road in his next outing.

  • Reds' Andrew Abbott: Fades late in fourth loss

Abbott (4-4) took the loss Monday, allowing three runs on four hits and two walks over six-plus innings against San Diego. He struck out six. Abbott was sharp across the first six frames, with his lone blemish being a solo homer by Freddy Fermin in the third inning. Manager Terry Francona elected to send the southpaw back out for the seventh inning, but Abbott was unable to record an out in the frame, allowing doubles to Xander Bogaerts and Gavin Sheets before exiting with both runners coming around to score and give San Diego the lead. While the end result Monday was disappointing, Abbott has righted the ship after a miserable start to the season, posting a 2.48 ERA and 1.18 WHIP across 40 innings over his past seven starts. The 27-year-old is tentatively lined up to take the ball Sunday against Arizona.

  • Reds' Andrew Abbott: Quality start in no-decision

Abbott didn't factor into the decision Tuesday against the Royals, allowing three runs on five hits and four walks with five strikeouts across six innings. Abbott logged his second straight quality start and fourth in his last seven outings while also generating 12 swinging strikes, his second most in a start this season. However, the left-hander did walk a season-high four batters and dealt with some traffic on the bases. All three runs allowed came in the top of the fourth inning via four singles and a pair of bases on balls. After a rough month of April, Abbott has steadied of late, yielding just 10 runs over his last 40 innings (2.25 ERA) with a 28:18 K:BB in that span. His ERA for the season is now 4.06 with a 47:31 K:BB across 68.2 innings. Abbott's strikeout rate (15.8 percent) has dipped a full six percentage points from last season.

  • Reds' Andrew Abbott: Collects fourth win

Abbott (4-2) picked up the win Wednesday, allowing two runs (one earned) on three hits and three walks over 5.1 innings during a 9-4 victory over the Phillies. He struck out three. The southpaw dealt with traffic on the bases in every inning before finally being lifted after 96 pitches (64 strikes) following a solo shot by Alec Bohm, but the Reds gave Abbott more than enough run support to record his third straight win and fourth consecutive winning decision. He's given up two earned runs or fewer in all five of his outings during that latter stretch, posting a 1.29 ERA, 1.14 WHIP and 19:13 K:BB over his last 28 innings. Abbott will look to keep rolling in his next start, which lines up to come on the road early next week against the Mets.

  • Reds' Andrew Abbott: Collects third win of 2026

Abbott (3-2) earned the win against the Guardians on Friday, allowing one run on four hits and three walks while striking out two across five innings. Abbott limited the Guardians to just one run through five frames, and his Reds teammates scored enough runs for him to come away with the win, even with the team's bullpen yielding five runs across the eighth and ninth innings. Abbott had an 0-2 record with a 6.59 ERA and 1.78 WHIP across 28.2 innings through his first six starts of the season. In his four starts since, he has a 3-0 record with a 1.19 ERA and 1.15 WHIP over 22.2 innings. He'll look to keep the good times going in his next start, which is slated for next week against the Phillies in Philadelphia.

  • Reds' Andrew Abbott: Struggles with command Tuesday

Abbott didn't factor into the decision Tuesday against the Cubs, allowing four hits and four walks with four strikeouts across 5.2 shutout innings. Abbott set the Cubs down in order the first three innings, allowing just one single that was erased when Matt Shaw tried stretching it into two bases. Abbott battled his control over his final 2.2 frames, issuing a season-high four walks. He still managed to escape with no damage, throwing his first scoreless outing since Opening Day against Boston. Following a career year in 2025, Abbott owns a 5.13 ERA, 1.64 WHIP and underwhelming 28:19 K:BB over 40.1 innings this season. He's gone six innings just twice in eight starts and is lined up to next face the Astros at home Sunday.

  • Reds' Andrew Abbott: Rebounds with quality start

Abbott (1-2) earned the win Thursday against the Rockies, allowing two runs on five hits and two walks in six innings. He struck out five. Abbott turned in one of his best performances of the year so far, matching a season high in innings and punchouts. Thursday was only his second quality start and his first since his season debut, and it was also just the third time that the 26-year-old left-hander gave up fewer than three runs. Abbott still has work to do in order to improve upon his 5.97 ERA, 1.67 WHIP and 24:15 K:BB (34.2 innings), and he could have his work cut out against the Cubs in his next scheduled outing at Wrigley Field.

  • Reds' Andrew Abbott: Mauled by Tigers in no-decision

Abbott came away with a no-decision in Friday's 9-8 win over Detroit, coughing up five runs on six hits and two walks over four innings. He struck out four. Four of the six hits off the southpaw went for extra bases, including solo shots by Riley Greene in the second inning and Javier Baez in the third. It's the first time this season Abbott has served up multiple homers in the same game, but he's failed to complete five innings in three straight trips to the mound while surrendering a ghastly 16 runs (15 earned) in 11.2 frames over that stretch, He'll carry a 6.59 ERA, 1.78 WHIP and 19:13 K:BB through 28.2 innings into his next outing, which lines up to come at home next week against the Rockies.

  • Twins' Matt Wallner: On bench for series finale

Wallner is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Reds. Wallner will take a seat for the second straight day, this time against a right-handed starter (Brady Singer) after he had been out of the lineup for Saturday's 5-4 loss while southpaw Andrew Abbott opened the game for the Reds. James Outman will fill in as the Twins' starting right fielder in place of Wallner, who still appears to be locked into a full-time role despite slashing a meager .181/.272/.333 with three home runs and six RBI over 81 plate appearances to begin the season.

  • Reds' Andrew Abbott: Roughed up again

Abbott allowed eight runs on eight hits and three walks while striking out three over two innings in Monday's spring start against the Diamondbacks. Abbott was roughed up again in his fifth Cactus League start and needed 76 pitches to get those six outs. He was pulled with none out in the third inning to ensure a fourth up-and-down, and then he was chased early in the fourth after giving up two hits and a walk. The left-hander is having a difficult spring with a 13.85 ERA and has allowed multiple runs in all five spring outings. Abbott will get one more start and hopes to figure out his mechanics before taking the ball Opening Day next week against the Red Sox.

  • Reds' Andrew Abbott: Deals with traffic Wednesday

Abbott allowed two runs on six hits and two walks while striking out five over 3.2 innings in Wednesday's spring start against Milwaukee. Abbott labored early and required 69 pitches to get those 11 outs in his fourth Cactus League start and first since being tabbed to start Opening Day, March 26, against the Red Sox. After allowing a walk and three hits (including a two-run home run) in a 25-pitch first inning, he got into immediate trouble in the second when the first two batters singled. The lefty squelched the threat with a pick-off and double-play grounder. Abbott then had less eventful third and four innings.

  • Reds' Andrew Abbott: Lining up for Game 3

Abbott will start Game 3 of the National League Wild Card Series against the Dodgers, if necessary, Bob Nightengale of USA Today reports. Cincinnati is set to deploy Hunter Greene in Game 1 and Zack Littell in Game 2, setting up Abbott to pitch in Game 3 if the series goes beyond two matchups. The 26-year-old southpaw put together a solid finish to the 2025 regular season, turning in a 2.78 ERA and 1.15 WHIP with 19 strikeouts over 22.2 frames during his final four starts.

  • Reds' Andrew Abbott: Tosses 4.2 scoreless frames

Abbott did not factor into the decision in Sunday's game against the Cubs, allowing five hits and one walk while striking out two across 4.2 innings. Abbott and the Reds' bullpen kept the Cubs off the board in Sunday's series finale, and the 26-year-old southpaw would have been in line for the win had he recorded one more out in the fifth inning. Abbott has failed to complete five innings in four of his last six starts, and over that span he has posted a 4.94 ERA, 1.48 WHIP and 33:8 K:BB across 31 innings. He's slated to make his final start of the regular season next weekend on the road against the Brewers.

  • Reds' Andrew Abbott: Fans seven during loss

Abbott (9-7) took the loss against the Cardinals on Tuesday, allowing three runs on eight hits over 4.2 innings. He struck out seven. The left-hander gave up an early sacrifice fly before surrendering a two-run homer to Thomas Saggese in the third inning, and he received no run support from the Reds' offense. Abbott needed 96 pitches to get through 4.2 frames, marking the third time in his last five outings he's failed to complete five innings -- a stretch marked by inconsistency despite flashes of dominance. The 26-year-old will take a 2.88 ERA, 1.15 WHIP and 143:42 K:BB across 156.1 innings into his next scheduled start against the Cubs.

  • Reds' Andrew Abbott: Shelled in short outing

Abbott (8-4) took the loss against the Diamondbacks on Saturday, giving up seven runs (six earned) on eight hits while striking out six over four innings. The left-hander was hit hard from the jump, surrendering four consecutive hits and three runs in the first inning. The outing didn't get better from there as Abbott served up a two-run homer to Lourdes Gurriel in the third and another two-run shot to Geraldo Perdomo an inning later. The rough outing came just six days after Abbott delivered one of his best starts of the season, when he tossed seven scoreless innings against Milwaukee. The 26-year-old still carries an impressive 2.62 ERA, 1.10 WHIP and 118:35 K:BB in 134 innings and will look to get back on track in his next scheduled start against St. Louis.

  • Reds' Andrew Abbott: Tosses seven scoreless innings

Abbott did not factor into Sunday's decision against the Brewers, allowing four hits while striking out seven across seven scoreless frames. He did not issue a walk. Abbott faced the minimum number of batters in five of seven frames, generating 12 whiffs and eight groundouts while tossing 92 pitches (61 strikes). It was the southpaw's fourth scoreless outing this season and lined him up for the win before William Contreras smacked a two-run homer in the ninth. Across 130 innings this season, Abbott has a 2.28 ERA and 1.08 WHIP, which ranks second and 14th best, respectively, among qualified starters in the majors. His next start is slated for next weekend on the road against the Diamondbacks, when he'll aim to collect his first win since July 9 against the Marlins.

Abbott (8-2) took the loss Wednesday as the Reds fell 6-1 to the Cubs, giving up four runs on seven hits and two walks over 6.2 innings. He struck out three. The lefty kept things close through six innings, but he was left in for the seventh and got tagged for a couple additional runs to miss out on his ninth quality start of the season. It was Abbott's first loss since June 4, and over his last 10 outings he's produced a 3-1 record with a 2.48 ERA, 1.18 WHIP and 40:16 K:BB across 61.2 innings. He'll look to bounce back in his next start, which lines up to come at home early next week against the Phillies.

  • Reds' Andrew Abbott: Stingy in no-decision

Abbott didn't factor into the decision in Saturday's 6-2 win over the Rays, allowing one run on two hits and three walks over six innings. He struck out seven. The southpaw left the mound in line for his ninth win of the season, but Graham Ashcraft coughed up a 2-1 lead in the top of the seventh inning. Abbott instead came away with his third straight quality start and his eighth of the year, continuing a dominant stretch that has seen him give up two earned runs or fewer in seven of his last eight outings while posting a 1.99 ERA, 1.09 WHIP and 36:9 K:BB over 49.2 innings. Abbott will look to stay locked in for his next start, which is scheduled to come at home next week against Atlanta.

  • Reds' Andrew Abbott: Delivers quality start

Abbott did not factor in the decision during Sunday's loss to the Mets. He allowed two runs on six hits and a walk over six innings while striking out five. Abbott coughed up a run in each of the third and fifth innings during his quality start Sunday. He threw 66 of 95 pitches for strikes and forced 11 whiffs, including five with his fastball. Abbott has given up three runs over 13.2 innings in his last two appearances after being tagged with four runs in his shortest outing of the year against the Phillies on July 4. Despite that hiccup, he's allowed two or fewer earned runs in six of his last seven outings, resulting in a 2.06 ERA during that span. Abbott owns an impressive 2.13 ERA with an 88:25 K:BB across 97.1 frames. He's lined up to face the Rays at home next weekend.
