The Guardians designated McKenzie for assignment Monday.

McKenzie has struggled in a mop-up role this season, allowing seven runs with a 4:7 K:BB over 5.2 innings. The 27-year-old holds just a 5.46 ERA, 21.2 percent strikeout rate and 15.6 percent walk rate since the start of the 2023 campaign and has dealt with arm issues during that stretch. McKenzie comes with team control through 2027, but his lack of minor-league options is likely to hurt his appeal on waivers.

Rogers (oblique) played catch at Comerica Park on Monday, Chris McCosky of The Detroit News reports.

Rogers tossed the ball around with fellow rehabber Austin Meadows (shoulder), who just recently began a throwing program. The catcher is expected to be out until early May as he recovers from a left oblique strain.

Jung joined the Tigers at Comerica Park prior to Monday's game against the Padres, Chris McCosky of The Detroit News reports.

There's no word yet on if Jung will be recalled to the active roster or is just in Detroit as a precaution, but Kerry Carpenter (hamstring) did exit Sunday's game with a hamstring issue. Jung failed to make the Opening Day roster but has slashed .239/.409/.463 with three homers over his first 19 games at Triple-A Toledo.

Carpenter tested out his right hamstring with some running in the outfield pregame Monday, Chris McCosky of The Detroit News reports.

Carpenter was forced to depart Sunday's extra-inning loss to the Rays due to hamstring soreness. It's a good sign that he was able to test out the leg injury with some pregame work, but there's still no word yet on how much time he might miss.

Schultz gave up two hits and struck out eight over 4.1 scoreless innings of relief in Sunday's loss to the Mariners.

Per Keegan Matheson of MLB.com, the eight Ks tied a major-league record for a pitcher making his MLB debut in a relief role, a mark most recently matched by Hayden Wesneski in 2022 with the Cubs. Schultz began a conversion to the bullpen at Triple-A Buffalo last season and was having a good start to the season at that level, posting a 2.08 ERA, 1.04 WHIP and 9:2 K:BB in 8.2 innings over four appearances. With the Blue Jays struggling to fill their fifth starter spot -- Easton Lucas, who took the loss Sunday, has been tagged for five homers and 14 runs in 7.2 innings over his last two starts -- Schultz made a strong case in his debut to stick around as a long reliever, and potentially even get a look as a primary pitcher working behind an opener.

Beeter (shoulder) struck out all four batters he faced in his first rehab appearance with Single-A Tampa on Sunday.

It was a good start for Beeter, who should move up to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre eventually before being activated from the 15-day injured list. Beeter did not make any spring training appearances, so it could be a relatively lengthy rehab assignment.

The Yankees recalled Vivas from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre on Monday.

He's taking the roster spot vacated by Trent Grisham, who was placed on the paternity leave list. Vivas will likely stick around only until Grisham returns later this week.

Grisham will miss at least one game and, in all likelihood, all three contests of his team's series versus the Guardians before rejoining the club for the start of a homestand Friday. Jorbit Vivas is grabbing Grisham's spot on the active roster.

Giolito (hamstring) struck out four and allowed three earned runs on six hits and no walks over five innings in his rehab start Sunday with Double-A Portland.

Giolito has made four rehab starts between stops with Portland and Triple-A Worcester, logging a collective 4.97 ERA, 1.74 WHIP and 13:7 K:BB in 12.2 innings. Though his results on the farm have been unremarkable, Giolito has been able to steadily increase his workload, with his five innings and 65 pitches Sunday both representing new highs. Giolito is expected to require one more tune-up outing in the minors before returning from the 15-day injured list and potentially slotting into the Red Sox rotation as soon as April 30. Since signing with the Red Sox in December 2023, Giolito has yet to make his team debut after missing the entire 2024 season while recovering from an internal brace surgery on his right elbow and then tweaking his left hamstring during spring training.

Montero will start Monday's game against the Padres in Detroit, Jared Ramsey of the Detroit Free Press reports.

Though he was tagged for five earned runs over five innings while taking a loss in his 2025 MLB debut last Wednesday in Milwaukee, Montero will stick around for at least one more start while Detroit temporarily expands its rotation to six men during a stretch of 23 games in 24 days. Montero likely won't be in line for a long-term stay with Detroit, though a stronger showing against the Padres and in any future outings that follow could compel the coaching staff to find a more permanent spot for the right-hander.
