  • Twins' Walker Jenkins: Records career firsts in loss

Jenkins went 1-for-3 with a double, an RBI and a stolen base in Saturday's 3-2 loss to the White Sox.

In his second big-league game, Jenkins picked up his first career steal, RBI and extra-base hit, after he'd gone 1-for-3 with a walk in his debut Friday. The 21-year-old is covering center field while Byron Buxton (hip) is on the mend, but Jenkins should slide over to an outfield corner once the veteran is cleared to return, with left field the likelier spot, as Trevor Larnach is batting .188 (12-for-64) in August.

  • Twins' Walker Jenkins: Officially called up, batting ninth

The Twins selected Jenkins' contract from Triple-A St. Paul on Friday.

News broke Thursday that Jenkins was on his way to the big leagues, and his promotion is now official. The top prospect missed time with a shoulder injury this season, but when healthy he slashed .308/.407/.532 with 12 home runs, 17 stolen bases and a 42:48 BB:K over 69 games with St. Paul. Jenkins has primarily been a center fielder in the minors, but he's capable of handling all three outfield positions. He's starting in center field and batting ninth Friday versus the White Sox in his major-league debut.

  • Twins' Walker Jenkins: Making MLB debut Friday

The Twins are expected to select Jenkins' contract from Triple-A St. Paul on Friday, Jonathan Mayo of MLB.com reports.

Widely viewed as the top prospect in the Twins' farm system, Jenkins will join the major-league roster after slashing .411/.488/.795 with eight homers, 13 RBI, 16 runs scored and seven steals across 84 plate appearances at St. Paul since the beginning of August. The 21-year-old is unlikely to supplant Byron Buxton as the Twins' primary center fielder, though Jenkins may take over for the veteran if Buxton's hip injury forces him to the injured list. Otherwise, Jenkins could see time in either outfield corner.

  • Twins' Walker Jenkins: Returns from 7-day IL

Triple-A St. Paul reinstated Jenkins (shoulder) from its 7-day injured list Monday.

Jenkins is expected to return to the St. Paul lineup for Tuesday's series opener with Louisville in what will mark his first appearance for the Triple-A club since May 3. The 21-year-old outfielder missed just over seven weeks due to a Grade 2 AC joint sprain in his left shoulder but was able to knock off some rust during a four-game rehab assignment at High-A Cedar Rapids last week. He was dialed in at the plate during his time with Cedar Rapids, going 9-for-16 with two home runs, one double and a 1:2 BB:K.

  • Twins' Walker Jenkins: Nearing rehab assignment

Jenkins (shoulder) could start a rehab assignment with Single-A Fort Myers as soon as Saturday, Aaron Gleeman of AaronGleeman.com reports.

Jenkins, one of the Twins' top prospects, has been on Triple-A St. Paul's 7-day injured list since early May due to a Grade 2 AC join sprain in his left shoulder. He's on the cusp of embarking on a rehab assignment, and if that goes well, he could be back in Triple-A by late June. Prior to his injury, Jenkins was slashing .256/.396/.389 with five steals, two homers and nine RBI over 111 plate appearances with St. Paul.
