  • Dansby Swanson SS | CHC

Cubs' Dansby Swanson: Scores three times in critical win

Swanson went 2-for-4 with a walk, an RBI and three runs scored in Tuesday's 11-8 win over the Giants.

Swanson played a key role as the Cubs secured a big win over San Francisco, a team they're trying to hold off for a playoff spot. The shortstop is batting a disappointing .246 after hitting .277 for Atlanta last year, though he's still been fairly productive with 19 home runs, 67 runs scored and 70 RBI across 125 games. Swanson should remain an important cog for Chicago's offense down the stretch.

Phillies' Trea Turner: Goes on paternity leave

Turner was placed on the paternity list ahead of Tuesday's game against the Padres.

Turner will likely miss the final two games of the Phillies' three-game set in San Diego as he welcomes a new addition to his growing family. He went 2-for-6 with a homer and two RBI in Monday's series opener.

  • Oneil Cruz CF | PIT

Pirates' Oneil Cruz: Will resume running this week

Cruz (ankle) is expected to restart his running progression this week, Andrew Destin of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports.

Cruz was shut down Aug. 23 due to soreness in his surgically-repaired left ankle, but he's feeling better now and still has an outside shot of returning to the Pirates' active major-league roster before the conclusion of the 2023 season. The dynamic 24-year-old shortstop has been sidelined since April 9.

  • Diamondbacks' Geraldo Perdomo: Sitting versus lefty

Perdomo is not in the lineup Tuesday versus the Rockies.

Nick Ahmed will start at shortstop and bat eighth as the Diamondbacks go righty-heavy against left-hander Kyle Freeland. Perdomo has posted a solid .779 OPS versus righties this season, but he carries a .609 OPS versus lefties.

Marlins' Joey Wendle: Sitting against lefty

  • Orlando Arcia SS | MIN

Braves' Orlando Arcia: Takes seat Tuesday

Arcia is out of the lineup Tuesday against the Cardinals.

Arcia gets a breather after going 4-for-15 with a homer, a double and three RBI in Atlanta's four-game weekend set at Dodger Stadium. Nicky Lopez will cover shortstop and bat ninth in Tuesday's series opener versus the Cardinals and right-hander Miles Mikolas.

  • Braves' Andrew Velazquez: Claimed by Atlanta

Atlanta claimed Velazquez off waivers from the Angels on Tuesday and optioned him to Triple-A Gwinnett.

Velazquez has typically performed well in the upper minors and plays excellent defense at shortstop, but the 29-year-old owns a career .189/.244/.293 batting line in 275 games (624 plate appearances) at the big-league level. He'll function as organizational infield depth down the stretch for the NL East leaders.

  • Ehire Adrianza 3B | LAA

Braves' Ehire Adrianza: Starting rehab assignment

Adrianza (elbow/shoulder) will begin a rehab assignment with High-A Rome on Tuesday.

Adrianza has been sidelined since early May, initially going down with an elbow injury before later hurting his shoulder. He's finally game-ready now, and he'll look to rejoin Atlanta in a utility role later this month once he completes his rehab assignment.

  • Trea Turner SS | PHI

Phillies' Trea Turner: Extends hitting streak to 15 games

Turner went 2-for-6 with a two-run home run and an additional run in Monday's 9-7 victory versus the Padres.
