Velazquez was recalled from Triple-A Durham, Neil Solondz of the Rays Radio Network reports.

Austin Meadows (thumb sprain) landed on the injured list, so Velazquez was summoned to provide some depth and versatility. He is capable of playing shortstop, but he really shines in the outfield, thanks to his plus speed. Velazquez could be of use in AL-only leagues for those looking for speed in the short term.

Wendle (hamstring) was activated from the 10-day IL and is starting at second base and hitting fifth Sunday against the Red Sox.

Ji-Man Choi (calf) is banged up so Yandy Diaz slides to first base, and Daniel Robertson starts at the hot corner, opening up a spot for Wendle at second base, even with lefty (David Price) on the bump for Boston. The Rays have a handful of infielders who will compete with Wendle for playing time this season, but it's an encouraging sign that they found room for him against a same-handed pitcher.

Wendle has recovered from his hamstring strain but has not yet been activated from the injured list, Steve Carney of Sports Radio 620 WDAE reports.

Wendle is ready to play, but the Rays needed another pitcher on the roster Saturday, so the team called up Jake Faria rather than activating Wendle. The infielder may have to wait yet another day, as the Rays may choose not to activate him Sunday only to have him sit on the bench against lefty David Price.

Adames is not starting Saturday against the Red Sox, Steve Carney of Sports Radio 620 WDAE reports.

After a slow start to the season, Adames is hitting .375 over his last 12 games. Daniel Robertson will slide over to shortstop in his absence.

Lindor is not starting the first half of Saturday's doubleheader against the Braves but will be in the lineup for the nightcap at shortstop, Tom Withers of the Associated Press reports.

The Indians won't make Lindor play two games immediately after returning from the injured list, though it's possible he could make an appearance off the bench in the first game. Max Moroff gets the start in the afternoon contest.

Owings is out of the lineup for Saturday's game against the Yankees.

With Whit Merrifield shifting to second base for the matinee game while Jorge Soler plays in right field, Owings will retreat to the bench. The 27-year-old has enjoyed a full-time role this season but has yet to do much with the steady at-bats, as he's slashing a miserable .182/.250/.303 through the club's first 20 contests.

The Indians reinstated Lindor (ankle/calf) from the 10-day injured list Saturday.

Lindor will presumably make his season debut at either shortstop or designated hitter in one (or both) of the Tribe's doubleheader games Saturday against the Braves. The April 20 return is about a week earlier than what was initially projected after Lindor sprained his left ankle in late March while rehabbing an existing right calf strain, so those that drafted the 25-year-old have to be fairly satisfied with this outcome. The Tribe cleared a spot on the active roster for Lindor by designating Hanley Ramirez for assignment.

Anderson and the White Sox won't play Saturday against the Tigers after the game was postponed due to inclement weather in Detroit, Chris McCosky of The Detroit News reports.

The two teams will make up the game as part of a doubleheader Aug. 6. Anderson was reinstated from his one-game suspension prior to the postponement and will be eligible to rejoin the lineup for Sunday's series finale.

Rather than appealing, Anderson chose to immediately serve the suspension he was handed for the language he directed at Royals pitcher Brad Keller when the right-hander intentionally threw at him in Wednesday's game against Kansas City. With the brief ban behind him, Anderson will settle back into a full-time role in the middle infield and will look to continue his hot start to the season. The 25-year-old is slashing .422/.439/.656 with four home runs and a 7-for-7 success rate on stolen-base attempts through 16 games.

Wendle reported feeling ready for activation after his hamstring tolerated back-to-back extended spring games well this week, Juan Toribio of MLB.com reports. "I feel good. I feel healthy," Wendle said. "I was able to make some plays and some instinctual things without even thinking about my hamstring, so I think that's the goal."

The versatile infielder is apparently champing at the bit for a return to action after being sidelined since April 1, but manager Kevin Cash remarked Friday he'd talk to Wendle by early Saturday before arriving on a final decision. Wendle has been able to progress through a gradual increase in his activity level without setbacks throughout the recovery process, so a return before the weekend series against the Red Sox concludes appears likely.
