  • Jon Gray SP | TEX

Rockies' Jon Gray: Earns first win

Gray (1-2) allowed three earned runs on three hits and two walks while striking out seven across seven innings to earn the win Sunday against the Rangers.

Gray looked like he was in for a tough outing as he surrendered two home runs and three earned runs through four innings. However, he retired nine of the last 10 batters he faced to salvage a strong outing, particularly given that it was at Coors Field. It was a bounceback effort for Gray, as he was hit around for eight earned runs in his previous outing. He'll look to turn in another strong effort in his next start, currently projected to come Friday at the Dodgers.

  • Zack Wheeler SP | PHI

Phillies' Zack Wheeler: Picks up third win

Wheeler (3-0) allowed two runs on six hits and one walk while striking out four over seven innings as he earned the win Sunday against the Mets.

Wheeler was forced to settle for a no-decision in his last turn through the rotation. However, he was sharp against the Mets as he held them scoreless outside of two runs in the fourth inning. The right-hander's strikeout rate has been down to begin the season, but he's been able to mostly limit run production with a 2.81 ERA over 25.2 innings across four starts this season. He'll attempt to remain effective on the road Saturday against Atlanta.

  • Dustin May SP | MIL

Dodgers' Dustin May: Decent in short outing

May allowed two runs on seven hits and struck out two over 4.1 innings in a no-decision versus the Angels on Sunday.

May wasn't efficient in the start, throwing 88 pitches (62 strikes) over 4.1 frames. The 22-year-old has a 3.00 ERA, 1.25 WHIP and 19:5 K:BB across 24 innings this season. He's yet to allow more than two runs in an appearance, but he's also only made it to the sixth inning twice. May's next start is scheduled for Saturday at home versus the Rockies.

  • Pirates' JT Brubaker: Draws another start

Brubaker is slated to start Tuesday's home game against the Indians, Jason Mackey of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports.

Brubaker wasn't impressive in his first MLB start back on Aug. 6 against the Twins (three runs allowed on four hits and two walks over three innings), but Joe Musgrove's (triceps) recent move to the injured list along with the Pirates' lack of appealing alternatives will be enough for the right-hander to earn another turn through the rotation. He'll tentatively line up for a two-start week, with his second start set to come Aug. 23 against the Brewers in Pittsburgh.

  • Mets' Michael Wacha: Simulated game scheduled

Wacha (shoulder) threw a bullpen session Sunday and will take part in a simulated game within the next week, Justin Toscano of The Bergen Record reports.

Wacha struggled to a 6.43 ERA in three starts this season before landing on the injured list with shoulder inflammation. He was never shut down from throwing for more than a couple days, so his absence doesn't appear set to be a particularly long one, though his exact return date remains unclear.

  • Jacob deGrom SP | TEX

Mets' Jacob deGrom: Plays catch again

DeGrom (neck) played catch again Sunday and felt better, Justin Toscano of The Bergen Record reports.

DeGrom was scratched from his scheduled start Friday against the Phillies due to neck stiffness. Whether or not he's able to make his next turn in the rotation Wednesday against the Marlins remains up in the air, but he's at least making progress in that direction.

  • Jack Flaherty SP | DET

Cardinals' Jack Flaherty: Staying loose with bullpens

Flaherty, who's slated to start the first game of Wednesday's doubleheader against the Cubs, threw a bullpen session Friday and will throw another early in the week, Anne Rogers of MLB.com reports.

The right-hander's most recent and only game action came Opening Day, July 24 against the Pirates, so Flaherty has undoubtedly been challenged to keep his arm calibrated correctly. The bullpen sessions are naturally one of the most important vehicles to accomplish that, and manager Mike Shildt acknowledged Saturday it's a challenge to walk the fine line between injury risk to top players, dealing with ongoing absences, and fielding the best team possible. "Clearly, there's games to be won and competitions to be had, but it won't come at an expense to someone's health," Shildt said. "But someone has to pitch the innings. We do have the extra pitcher for the doubleheader. And we'll just continue to communicate. We've talked extensively with our group about just that."

  • Kwang Hyun Kim SP | STL

Cardinals' Kwang-Hyun Kim: Date of first start set

Kim is slated to make his delayed first start with the Cardinals in the first game of Monday's doubleheader against the Cubs, Anne Rogers of MLB.com reports.

The left-hander's turn in the rotation will come a full week later than originally planned due to the slew of suspended games for the Cardinals as a result of the team's COVID-19 outbreak. Kim opened the season as a reliever, but he has plenty of experience as a starter after serving in that capacity for 76 of his 83 career games in the KBO over the last three campaigns.

  • Dodgers' Tony Gonsolin: Listed as Tuesday's starter

Gonsolin is listed as the starter for Tuesday's game against the Mariners, Ken Gurnick of MLB.com reports.

The Dodgers don't need to go with a six-man rotation, but that seems to be the plan for now. This report comes from Gurnick, as MLB.com still lists the Dodgers' Monday and Tuesday starters as TBD. Gonsolin doesn't have the same type of ceiling that Julio Urias and Dustin May have put on display this season, but he has not allowed a run while striking out nine and walking two in 8.2 innings across two appearances this season. If he can go five-plus innings for the first time this year, he would have a decent chance of getting the win against Seattle.

  • Austin Gomber SP | TEX

Cardinals' Austin Gomber: Could start Monday

Gomber (illness) could start the second game of Monday's doubleheader against the Cubs, Jeff Jones of the Belleville News-Democrat reports.

If he does not start Monday, he would likely start the second game of Wednesday's doubleheader. Gomber did not register a positive COVID-19 test but was at risk after having contacted someone else with the virus, so he was placed on the injured list earlier in the week. However, he is now apparently in the clear and figures to make a spot start next week against the Cubs. With a slew of doubleheaders on tap for the Cardinals this season, Gomber could make several more spot starts if he can keep his head above water.
