Burnes (elbow) will begin a rehab assignment at Triple-A Reno on Saturday, Alex Weiner of Arizona Sports reports.
Burnes is expected to throw two innings and 35 pitches for the Aces. If all goes well, manager Torey Lovullo will make a decision as to whether the right-hander should rejoin the Diamondbacks for his season debut. Given where his workload is at, Burnes would only be able to give Arizona three innings (45 pitches), but with an extra roster spot in September, the team would have bullpen coverage.

Burnes had been working his way back from Tommy John surgery during April and May but was forced to shut down in early June. Burnes has been on the injured list since June 2025 while recovering from Tommy John surgery, though his time on the shelf was extended when he suffered a teres major strain while throwing to live hitters last month. Now that he's made encouraging progress in his recovery from both injuries, he's been given the green light to restart a throwing progam. It will take him a while to ramp up after missing more than a full season, though the team hasn't yet shut the door on Burnes returning before the end of the year.

Diamondbacks' Corbin Burnes: Set for evaluation in early July
Arizona manager Torey Lovullo said Monday that Burnes is expected to receive follow-up imaging on his elbow in the first or second week of July, Alex Weiner of ArizonaSports.com reports.
After facing hitters May 29 for the first time since undergoing Tommy John surgery June 11, 2025, Burnes reported discomfort following the workout and was diagnosed with a teres major strain. He'll remain shut down from activity for at least another week or two, but he could be cleared to resume a throwing progression if his imaging shows improvement. Burnes will presumably need a lengthy ramp-up period once getting the green light to throw, so he would appear unlikely to make it back from the 60-day injured list until the second half of August or possibly September.

Manager Torey Lovullo said Wednesday that Burnes (elbow) has been shut down from throwing after suffering a teres major strain, Bob Nightengale of USA Today reports.
Burnes has been throwing to live hitters over the past couple of weeks while working his way back from a Tommy John procedure he underwent last June, and he reportedly felt something in his side/shoulder during his last session. The team is hopeful that the 31-year-old righty will still be able to return sometime in September, though a more precise timeline will likely take shape once he's cleared to restart his throwing program.
