Paul Sewald RP | ARI
Tigers' Paul Sewald: Returns from 60-day IL
The Tigers activated Sewald (shoulder) from the 60-day injured list Thursday.
Sewald was recovering from a right shoulder strain when the Tigers acquired him from the Guardians at the trade deadline, but he's made his way onto the active roster following five rehab appearances. The veteran reliever will likely be used in low-leverage spots initially but could find himself working in key situations if he looks sharp.

The left-hander has a 3.07 ERA and 10.7 K/9 across 58.2 innings of relief in the minors this season. Abner was a sixth-round pick in the 2023 First-Year Player Draft.

Angels' Sam Aldegheri: Joining big-league club
The Angels will recall Aldegheri from Triple-A Salt Lake, Ari Alexander of KPRC 2 Houston reports.
The Angels have not announced any probable pitchers for their weekend series in Colorado, and Aldegheri could slot into the rotation one of those days. Aldegheri boasts a 2.52 ERA and 50:20 K:BB over 60.2 innings covering his last 10 starts between Double-A Rocket City and Salt Lake. The lefty has made two relief appearances for the Angels this season, yielding seven runs (five earned) across 4.1 frames.

Luinder Avila SP | KC
Royals' Luinder Avila: Rejoins big-league bullpen
The Royals recalled Avila from Triple-A Omaha on Thursday.
Avila was just sent down Wednesday but eligible to be recalled because he's replacing an injured player in Kyle Isbel (hamstring) on the roster. The rookie right-hander has allowed just one run with an 11:4 K:BB over 9.1 innings this season at the big-league level.

Steven Cruz RP | KC
Royals' Steven Cruz: Pitching well in rehab assignment
Cruz (shoulder) struck out two and gave up a hit and no walks over 1.1 innings in a rehab appearance for Triple-A Omaha on Wednesday.
Cruz has yet to allow a run in four rehab outings with Triple-A Omaha as he works back from right shoulder tendinitis. Before the injury, he posted a 3.61 ERA and 1.18 WHIP across 42.1 innings in 43 appearances out of Kansas City's bullpen. A return to the majors should come soon, giving the club a fresh relief option after a taxing series against Seattle.

Reed Garrett RP | NYM
Mets' Reed Garrett: To IL with sprained elbow
Garrett was placed on the 15-day injured list Thursday with a right elbow sprain.
The move is retroactive to Sept. 15, but it nonetheless means the end of Garrett's regular season. He has logged an 8.25 ERA, 1.58 WHIP and 14 strikeouts in 12 innings since the beginning of August.

Aaron Civale SP | ATH
Cubs' Aaron Civale: Earns first Chicago win
Civale (4-9) tossed three scoreless innings of relief to earn the win in Wednesday's 8-4 victory over the Pirates. He allowed one hit and struck out three.
With starter Matthew Boyd scuffling through three innings, Chicago turned to Civale in long relief, and the veteran earned his first win with his new team since getting claimed off waivers at the end of August. Civale has looked sharp with the Cubs, as he's allowed just one run across eight innings in three appearances, and he's struck out eight batters as well. The righty's fantasy value is capped in his current role, though it looks like he could be a positive addition to Chicago's bullpen down the stretch.
