  • Cardinals' Genesis Cabrera: Diagnosed with left finger injury

Cabrera was removed from Friday's game against the Cubs as a precautionary measure with left middle finger discomfort, Jeff Jones of the Belleville News-Democrat reports.

Cabrera has dealt with finger injuries in the past, but his current injury doesn't appear to be a significant concern. The southpaw should be considered day-to-day following Friday's early exit.

  • Cardinals' Genesis Cabrera: Leaves game with trainer

Cabrera exited Friday's game against the Cubs in the top of the sixth inning with an apparent injury, Zachary Silver of MLB.com reports.

Cabrera walked three of the four batters he faced after entering Friday's game in the top of the sixth, and he was visited by a trainer after throwing 17 pitches. The trainer appeared to be examining one of the 24-year-old's fingernails on his left hand, but the specifics of his injury aren't yet clear.

  • Jake Cousins RP | LAD

Brewers' Jake Cousins: Likely to return for NLDS

Cousins (biceps) is expected to return for the NLDS against Atlanta, which begins Oct. 8, Tom Haudricourt of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports.

Cousins has been sidelined with a strained right biceps since Saturday and will be out for the remainder of the regular season. However, Brewers president of baseball operations David Stearns said Friday that the right-hander should be back in action in time for the postseason. The 27-year-old made 30 appearances this year and recorded a 2.70 ERA and 1.17 WHIP in 30 innings.

  • Sam Long RP | KC

Giants' Sammy Long: Called up Friday

Long was recalled from Triple-A Sacramento on Friday.

Long has been utilized as a starter and a reliever across his 12 major-league appearances, but he should pitch out of the bullpen during the final series of the regular season. During his first major-league season, the southpaw has recorded a 5.53 ERA and 1.28 WHIP in 40.2 innings.

  • Cory Abbott RP | SEA

Cubs' Cory Abbott: Recalled, starting Friday

Abbott was recalled from Triple-A Iowa to start Friday's game against the Cardinals, Jordan Bastian of MLB.com reports.

Abbott had been in the minors since late July, and he posted a 4.56 ERA and 1.46 WHIP in 47.1 innings during that time. He'll make his first major-league start in Friday's series opener against St. Louis after he recorded an 8.03 ERA and 2.03 WHIP in 12.1 innings across his first six big-league appearances.

  • Dylan Lee RP | ATL

Braves' Dylan Lee: Returns to majors

Lee was recalled from Triple-A Gwinnett on Friday.

The 27-year-old was sent to Triple-A last weekend but will quickly rejoin the big-league club with Edgar Santana (ribs) heading to the injured list. Lee has a 1.54 EA, 0.76 WHIP and 54:6 K:BB over 46.2 innings for Gwinnett this season, and he's looking to make his MLB debut.

  • Marlins' Andrew Bellatti: Back in majors

Bellatti had his contract selected by the Marlins on Friday.

Bellatti had a two-game stint in the majors in July before being designated for assignment, and he'll rejoin the Marlins for the final three games of the season. The right-hander dominated at Triple-A Jacksonville out of the bullpen with a 1.52 ERA, 0.86 WHIP and 38:10 K:BB over 29.2 innings.

  • Mets' Robert Gsellman: Could return for final series

Gsellman (lat) joined the Mets' taxi squad ahead of the team's season-ending series in Atlanta and could be reinstated from the 60-day injured list this weekend, Anthony Rieber of Newsday reports.

After being shut down in late June with a torn right lat, Gsellman was cleared to begin a rehab assignment just over two months later. He's since made six rehab appearances between two affiliates, covering 6.1 innings in total while allowing seven earned runs on 10 hits and three walks. • Will Smith RP | KC

Braves' Will Smith: Fans two, earns save

Smith tossed a scoreless inning Thursday against Philadelphia to earn the save, fanning two.

Smith only needed eight pitches to get the job done en route to his 37th save of the season, and he's already surpassed his career-best mark in that category. In fact, he has nailed down each of his last five save chances while tossing a scoreless outing in each of those appearances as well. He ended September on a strong note and posted a 1.50 ERA through 12 innings on the month, as he ends the regular season on a blistering note.
