The Marlins acquired Long and right-hander Jace Beck from the Cubs on Monday in exchange for left-hander Braxton Garrett, Meghan Montemurro of the Chicago Tribune reports.

Long had been blocked off at the Triple-A level while in the Cubs organization for the past couple seasons, but he's also seen a decline in his performance (108 wRC+) in 2026 compared to 2025 (131 wRC+). A righty-hitting first baseman and left fielder, Long is slashing .283/.364/.455 with 12 home runs and a 21.2 percent strikeout rate in 99 games as a 24-year-old.

The Angels acquired Alvarez from Atlanta on Monday in exchange for left-hander Brent Suter, Jeff Passan of ESPN.com reports.

Alvarez produced a .626 OPS over 208 plate appearances and made 63 starts for Atlanta in 2025, but he has yet to see big-league action in 2026 while second baseman Ozzie Albies and third baseman Austin Riley have both remained healthy throughout the campaign. The 23-year-old Alvarez had been playing exclusively at the hot corner at Triple-A Gwinnett this season, slashing .236/.337/.326 with two home runs and four stolen bases in 37 games before landing on the injured list in late May due to an undisclosed issue. The severity of Alvarez's injury remains unclear, but assuming he's not dealing with a season-ending issue, he could be cleared to make his organizational debut at Triple-A Salt Lake within the next few weeks.

Hayes went 1-for-3 with a solo home run in Sunday's 10-2 win over the Pirates. He was also hit by a pitch.

Hayes homered for the second time in five games, giving him four over 58 contests. This was his first start in four games, as he's been sharing the hot corner with Eugenio Suarez. The Reds are likely to be sellers heading into Monday's trade deadline and have seven players on expiring contracts, including Suarez. Hayes could get more consistent at-bats if Cincinnati trades Suarez, but the former's unattractive .145 average makes him a difficult play in fantasy leagues.

Vargas went 1-for-5 with a two-run home run Sunday against the Rays.

Vargas popped his home run in the ninth inning to give the White Sox some additional insurance. It was his second long ball of the weekend series against Tampa Bay and brings his total to 24 on the season. Vargas has continued to flash power, but he's otherwise struggled out of the All-Star break, hitting only .197 with seven RBI across 16 games.

The Giants claimed Kennedy off waivers Sunday.

The 27-year-old was designated for assignment by the Mariners on Tuesday and will now rejoin the Giants, with whom he played in seven games earlier this season. Kennedy isn't likely to see much playing time in San Francisco, though his outlook would improve if Luis Arraez is dealt before Monday's trade deadline.

Chapman will undergo another MRI on Monday since his abdominal strain remains bothersome when running, Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.

The 33-year-old isn't believed to have suffered a setback, but he can't quite get over the hump in his recovery. Though manager Tony Vitello said Wednesday that Chapman was expected to come off the injured list during this weekend's series in San Diego, the veteran third baseman will instead be out a bit longer. Christian Koss and Oslevis Basabe have been sharing time at third base lately, and waiver pickup Buddy Kennedy could also factor into the mix for reps at the position while Chapman remains shelved.

Gelof (knee) will report to Triple-A Las Vegas on Tuesday to begin a rehab assignment, Martin Gallegos of MLB.com reports.

Gelof has been on the shelf nearly a month due to a knee laceration but has now been cleared for game action. The 26-year-old is expected to require about 20 at-bats in the minors before being cleared to come off the injured list, so he'll likely need about a week with Las Vegas before rejoining the big-league roster.

Wilson is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Twins.

Leo Rivas will cover third base Sunday, but Wilson appears to have tentatively settled in as the Mariners' top option at the position. Wilson manned the hot corner in each of the previous five games, going 2-for-17 with a double, two walks, and a run scored during that stretch. His run as a regular in the Seattle lineup could be over as soon as Tuesday, when Brendan Donovan (groin) is projected to return from the injured list.

Keith is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Athletics.

The left-handed-hitting Keith will hit the bench for the second time in the series while the Athletics send another southpaw (Gage Jump) to the bump. With Keith on the bench, Hao-Yu Lee will draw the start at third base while Dillon Dingler serves as the Tigers' designated hitter.

Karros is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Royals.

After recently missing time due to a left biceps injury, Karros returned to the lineup for the first two games of the series with the Royals, going 4-for-8 with a double, three runs and two RBI across those contests. Karros appears to have avoided any setbacks with his biceps coming out of those games, but he'll get a breather for the series finale.
