Ketel Marte 2B | ARI
Diamondbacks' Ketel Marte: Remaining on bench Sunday
Marte (back) is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Padres.
Marte was removed from Friday's contest due to lower-back tightness and will sit Sunday for the second consecutive game. The 30-year-old was reportedly available off the bench Saturday but didn't see the field, so he'll presumably be available again Sunday. Kevin Newman is manning the keystone in place of Marte.

Brendan Rodgers 2B | BOS
Rockies' Brendan Rodgers: Out of Sunday's lineup
Rodgers is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Royals, Luke Zahlmann of The Denver Gazette reports.
Rodgers is hitting .348 in July but will sit Sunday after starting the previous six games. Aaron Schunk will start at the keystone and bat ninth in the series finale versus Kansas City while Rodgers receives a routine day of rest.

Nolan Gorman 3B | STL
Cardinals' Nolan Gorman: Strong showing in loss
Gorman went 3-for-5 with two doubles and a run scored in Saturday's 14-6 loss to the Nationals.
The second baseman banged out the Cardinals' only extra-base hits on the afternoon. Gorman has produced multiple hits in three of five games to begin the month of July, and he appears to be shaking off a brutal slump that saw him slash .083/.151/.155 over the prior 24 games with a bloated 39.8 percent strikeout rate.

Ozzie Albies 2B | ATL
Braves' Ozzie Albies: Homers in back-to-back games
Albies went 2-for-4 with a two-run home run, three total RBI and two total runs scored in Saturday's 5-1 win over the Phillies.
Albies opened the scoring with an RBI single in the first inning and added his homer in the fifth. The second baseman is on a nine-game hitting streak, going 14-for-36 (.389) in that span. He's taken it up another notch recently with three straight multi-hit contests. Overall, Albies has a .266/.320/.423 slash line with eight homers, 43 RBI, 45 runs scored and six stolen bases over 79 games this season.

Ketel Marte 2B | ARI
Diamondbacks' Ketel Marte: Held out of starting nine
Marte (back) is out of the lineup for Saturday's game against the Padres, Nick Piecoro of The Arizona Republic reports.
Marte was removed from Friday's 10-8 loss with lower-back tightness, so his absence from the lineup Saturday isn't overly surprising. However, manager Torey Lovullo said that Marte could be available off the bench if needed. Marte should be considered day-to-day.

Xander Bogaerts SS | SD
Padres' Xander Bogaerts: Plays field in rehab game
Bogaerts (shoulder) went 0-for-3 while playing second base in a rehab game with Triple-A El Paso on Friday.
After serving as the designated hitter in his first rehab contest Thursday, Bogaerts transitioned to second base in his second game Friday. He's gone 1-for-6 with a walk and two strikeouts over the pair of appearances. While there seems to be ample time for Bogaerts to ramp up and return to the Padres before the All-Star break, MLB.com reports that manager Mike Shildt wouldn't commit to that Friday, saying "I wouldn't rule it out, but I wouldn't say, 'Yes.'"

Jeff McNeil 2B | ATH
Mets' Jeff McNeil: Idle vs. lefty Saturday
McNeil is not in the starting lineup for Saturday's game against the Pirates.
The lefty-hitting McNeil will begin Saturday's contest in the dugout with the Pirates sending southpaw Bailey Falter to the mound. Jose Iglesias will start at second base and bat eighth.

Jeff McNeil 2B | ATH
Mets' Jeff McNeil: Pops fifth homer
McNeil went 1-for-3 with a solo home run in Friday's loss to the Pirates.
His third-inning shot off Paul Skenes opened the scoring on the night, but it proved to be a drop in the bucket as the Mets got routed 14-2. McNeil is quietly showing flickers of life at the plate -- two of his five homers on the season have come in the last eight games, and he's batting .250 (8-for-32) over that stretch. Even with that modest uptick in production, McNeil's .216 batting average and .585 OPS on the year are by far career worsts.

Ketel Marte 2B | ARI
Diamondbacks' Ketel Marte: Nursing tight back
Marte exited Friday's game against the Padres due to lower-back tightness, Jesse Friedman of GoPHNX.com reports.
Marte had gone 0-for-4 during Friday's loss before Randal Grichuk pinch hit for him in the ninth inning, and manager Torey Lovullo confirmed after the game that Marte's removal was due to a lingering back issue that has been bothering him for a while. He won't require any imaging, however, and the team is viewing him as day-to-day.

Luis Garcia 1B | WAS
Nationals' Luis Garcia: Fills stat sheet in loss
Garcia went 4-for-5 with a home run, two RBI and a stolen base in a 7-6 extra-innings loss to the Cardinals on Friday.
Garcia hit an RBI single in the first inning, a solo home run in the third and another single in the eighth. He later added another base hit and stole second in the 10th frame. The 24-year-old followed up a two-homer game July 3 with his second four-hit effort of the season. While he continues to sit against left-handed pitching, Garcia is hitting .271 with 10 homers, 42 RBI, 29 runs scored and 12 steals in a quietly productive 2024.
