The Tigers optioned Hanifee to Triple-A Toledo on Friday.

The move corresponds with the Tigers recalling southpaw Enmanuel De Jesus from Toledo. Hanifee appeared in seven games out of the Tigers' bullpen after being recalled by the team following the All-Star break. In that seven-game span, he allowed four runs on six hits and two walks while striking out two batters across 6.2 innings.

The Tigers recalled De Jesus from Triple-A Toledo on Friday.

De Jesus has spent the last month in Triple-A, but he'll return to the majors in a move that corresponds with Brenan Hanifee being optioned to Toledo. De Jesus has appeared in 22 major-league games this season and has a 3.98 ERA and 1.26 WHIP over 31.2 innings.

The Tigers placed Vierling on the 10-day injured list Friday, retroactive to Thursday, due to a left adductor strain.

Vierling tweaked his adductor during Wednesday's game against the Orioles. The injury is severe enough for him to go on the IL, and the Tigers will have a better sense of Vierling's return timeline once he's cleared to resume baseball activities. Max Clark's contract was selected from Triple-A Toledo in a corresponding move, and the 21-year-old outfielder will make his major-league debut against the Athletics on Friday.

Snell (elbow) said Friday that he'll make one more rehab start at Triple-A Oklahoma City before returning from the injured list, Jack Harris of the California Post reports.

Snell was brilliant during his last minor-league start, striking out nine batters while pitching four scoreless innings at Single-A Ontario. He built up to 60 pitches during his appearance, and it seems like the Dodgers want to increase his workload a bit more before having him rejoin the active roster.

The Tigers selected Clark's contract from Triple-A Toledo on Friday.

Clark, the No. 3 overall pick of the 2023 First-Year Player Draft, will make his major-league debut Friday, starting in center field and batting seventh against southpaw Jeffrey Springs and the Athletics. Clark earned his big-league promotion by slashing .276/.368/.434 with 21 steals, 11 home runs and 42 RBI across 418 plate appearances in Triple-A.

Edman isn't in the lineup for Friday's game against Boston.

Edman will get a chance to rest Friday after starting each of the Dodgers' last nine games and posting a .658 OPS while doing so. Miguel Rojas will pick up a start at second base and bat third while Edman sits.

Ohtani (knee) will serve as the designated hitter and bat leadoff Friday against the Red Sox.

Ohtani sat out Thursday's contest to give his inflamed left knee a chance to heal, but he now seems to be feeling well enough to play in Friday's series opener. The two-way star hasn't appeared on the mound since July 3 because of his knee but hasn't been impacted much as a hitter, slashing .265/.326/.518 with five homers, 15 RBI and eight runs scored across 92 plate appearances in July.

Martinez (elbow) is expected to begin a rehab assignment at Single-A Visalia next week, Steve Gilbert of MLB.com reports.

Martinez has been on the injured list all season while working his way back from Tommy John surgery. He's been cleared to face hitters for the past two weeks, and he's scheduled to pitch in a simulated game at the team's spring training complex this weekend before joining one of Arizona's minor-league affiliates. The 25-year-old righty will likely require an extended rehab assignment after spending more than a year on the shelf, but he could still make it back to the D-backs' bullpen before the end of August.

Thorpe (elbow) will make his next rehab start with Triple-A Charlotte on Tuesday, Scott Merkin of MLB.com reports.

Thorpe was cleared for a rehab assignment shortly after the All-Star break, and his last outing took place Thursday, when he allowed one hit while striking out five batters across four scoreless innings with Double-A Birmingham. He's in the final stages of his recovery from April 2025 Tommy John surgery, and barring any setbacks, Thorpe is on track to rejoin the White Sox in mid-August.

Cano agreed to a two-year, $7.5 milion contract extension with the Orioles on Friday.

The extension covers Cano's final two arbitration years for the 2027 and 2028 seasons, with the Orioles having a $10 million club option for 2029, per Jacob Calvin Meyer of The Baltimore Sun. Cano has been a key piece to the Orioles' bullpen and is in the midst of a career year. He has a 2.21 ERA, 0.95 WHIP, eight holds and a 31:8 K:BB across 36.2 innings this season.
