  • Cardinals' Brendan Donovan: Not in Tuesday's lineup

Donovan (groin) isn't in the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Giants, John Denton of MLB.com reports.

The Cardinals expected Donovan to return to the starting nine Tuesday after he was scratched Monday with a groin injury, but he'll instead take another day to recover while Jose Fermin starts at the keystone. With just five games left on the regular-season schedule and St. Louis flirting with elimination from postseason contention, the Cardinals may opt to shut Donovan down for the rest of the year if his condition doesn't improve soon.

  • Cubs' Daniel Palencia: Activation imminent

Palencia (shoulder) will be activated Tuesday or Wednesday, Mike McGraw of the Chicago Daily Herald reports.

The Cubs want to get their closer on the mound as the regular season winds down to see if he is ready for the postseason. The 25-year-old has made one appearance during his rehab assignment, which commenced Sept. 20 in a game where he allowed one run in 0.2 innings.

  • Giants' Casey Schmitt: Resting Tuesday

Schmitt isn't in the lineup for Tuesday's game versus St. Louis, Shayna Rubin of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.

Schmitt will receive a day to rest after going 1-for-4 with a run scored during a loss in Monday's series opener. Christian Koss will replace him at second base Tuesday and bat eighth.

  • Tylor Megill SP | NYM

Mets' Tylor Megill: Will miss 2026 season

Megill (elbow) had Tommy John surgery Monday, Anthony DiComo of MLB.com reports.

Megill was looking at alternatives, but undergoing Tommy John surgery on his right elbow was deemed the best path forward for him. Unfortunately for the right-hander, this effectively sidelines him for the entire 2026 season at minimum.

  • Matt Shaw RF | CHC

Cubs' Matt Shaw: Returns to lineup Tuesday

Shaw (personal) will start at third base and bat eighth in Tuesday's game against the Mets.

Shaw was away from the club Sunday in order to attend a funeral, but he's back in action Tuesday following the Cubs' team off day Monday. The rookie infielder is slashing just .200/.297/.309 in September.

  • Joey Bart C | PIT

Pirates' Joey Bart: Scratched with wrist injury

Bart was scratched from Tuesday's lineup in Cincinnati due to left wrist discomfort, Colin Beazley of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports.

Bart had been slated to serve as the Pirates' designated hitter, but he'll need at least a day to rest a wrist issue. Bryan Reynolds will move from right field into the DH slot, while Alexander Canario has entered the lineup in right field.

  • Nasim Nunez 2B | WAS

Nationals' Nasim Nunez: Fourth straight start Tuesday

Nunez will start at second base and bat leadoff in Tuesday's contest versus Atlanta.

It's the fourth straight start for Nunez and the second straight day he's been in the leadoff spot. He enters play Tuesday having homered in back-to-back games and is 9-for-30 with four home runs and a stolen base in September. Nunez could continue to push Luis Garcia -- who is making his first-ever start at first base Tuesday -- for playing time at second base down the stretch.

  • Luis Garcia 1B | WAS

Nationals' Luis Garcia: First-ever start at first base

Garcia will start at first base and bat fifth in Tuesday's game against Atlanta.

It marks the first time in pro ball that Garcia has ever played first base. It's also Garcia's first start since Friday, as he was out of the lineup for each of the last three games. Nasim Nunez is handling second base for the Nationals on Tuesday and could be threatening to overtake Garcia at the keystone.

  • Josh Bell DH | MIN

Nationals' Josh Bell: Out of lineup again Tuesday

Bell is not in the lineup for Tuesday's game in Atlanta.

Bell isn't dealing with any known injury, but this will be his second straight day out of the lineup. Luis Garcia is making his first-ever start at first base for the Nationals.

  • Daylen Lile LF | WAS

Nationals' Daylen Lile: Back in action Tuesday

Lile (knee) will start at designated hitter and bat cleanup in Tuesday's game versus Atlanta.

Lile missed the first game of the series Monday with a knee issue, but he's feeling well enough to give it a go Tuesday. The rookie has been one of the best hitters in baseball in September, slashing .378/.432/.757 with four home runs.
