  • Luis Garcia 1B | NYY

Nationals' Luis Garcia: Sitting versus lefty

Garcia is absent from the lineup for Friday's contest versus Atlanta.

With southpaw Chris Sale drawing the start for Atlanta, the left-handed hitting Garcia will begin Friday's festivities on the bench. Ildemaro Vargas will start at second base for the Nationals.

  • Jarred Kelenic LF | TEX

Braves' Jarred Kelenic: Still out Friday

Kelenic (wrist) is out of the lineup for Friday's game against the Nationals.

Kelenic will miss a second straight game after injuring his wrist on a diving catch Wednesday. The injury isn't thought to be serious, so he should be back in the lineup soon. In the meantime, Adam Duvall will play left field and J.P. Martinez will step into right.

  • Kevin Newman 3B | LAA

Diamondbacks' Kevin Newman: On bench Friday

Newman is out of the lineup for Friday's game against San Diego.

The 30-year-old will yield to Blaze Alexander on Friday despite Newman's current six-game hit streak. On the year, Newman is slashing .260/.294/.377 with a 14.8 percent strikeout rate in 155 plate appearances.

  • Diamondbacks' Lourdes Gurriel: Getting day off

Gurriel is out of the lineup for Friday's game against the Padres.

Gurriel will get a breather Friday after making five straight starts in left field. Jake McCarthy will slide to left while Randal Grichuk steps into right field.

  • James Meeker RP | MIL

    Brewers' James Meeker: Contract selected

The Brewers selected Meeker's contract from Triple-A Nashville on Friday.

Meeker is a former independent league player who will receive his first promotion to the big leagues at the age of 29. He's posted a 2.67 ERA and 30:12 K:BB over 27 innings this season between Nashville and Double-A Biloxi.

  • Aaron Ashby RP | MIL

Brewers' Aaron Ashby: Optioned to Triple-A

The Brewers optioned Ashby to Triple-A Nashville on Friday.

The Brewers are down multiple starters due to injury, so this move seems to reflect their lack of faith in Ashby. The left-hander made a start Wednesday against the Phillies, allowing just two runs but walking five over five innings. He will remain stretched out in the Nashville rotation.

  • Brewers' Freddy Peralta: Set to start Saturday

Peralta is scheduled to start Saturday against the Tigers, Sophia Minnaert of Bally Sports Wisconsin reports.

The right-hander initially lined up to start Friday's series opener, but Tobias Myers will instead take the ball in that contest. Peralta has given up at least one homer in each of his past four starts, though he's still been effective over the last three with a 2.55 ERA, 0.85 WHIP and 25:4 K:BB across 17.2 innings.

  • Jake Fraley RF | TB

Reds' Jake Fraley: On bench Friday

Fraley is out of the lineup for Friday's game against the Cubs.

Fraley will dodge a matchup with lefty Justin Steele on Friday. Jonathan India will DH and Santiago Espinal will play second base.

  • Liover Peguero SS | PIT

Pirates' Liover Peguero: Sent to Triple-A

Peguero was optioned to Triple-A Indianapolis on Friday.

The 23-year-old was called up by Pittsburgh on Tuesday and will return to Indianapolis without appearing in a big-league game. Peguero has a .272/.341/.378 slash line with two homers, 34 RBI, 32 runs and five steals in 51 games at Triple-A this year.

  • Jesus Sanchez DH | ARI

Marlins' Jesus Sanchez: Taking seat Friday

Sanchez is out of the lineup for Friday's game against Cleveland.

Sanchez will avoid a same-handed matchup with lefty Logan Allen on Friday. Instead, Dane Myers will play right field and bat sixth.
