Manny Machado 3B | SD
Padres' Manny Machado: Still out of lineup
Machado (hip) is not in the starting lineup for Friday's game against the Diamondbacks, AJ Cassavell of MLB.com reports.
Machado sustained a mild right hip flexor strain Wednesday against the Angels, and the 31-year-old will sit again Friday. While he didn't start in the series opener against Arizona on Thursday, Machado did pinch hit for Kyle Higashioka in the eighth inning and grounded out to the pitcher. While Machado begins Friday's game in the dugout, Donovan Solano will start at third base and bat fifth against Diamonbacks right-hander Brandon Pfaadt.

Joe Jacques RP | NYM
Diamondbacks' Joe Jacques: Sent back to Reno
The Diamondbacks optioned Jacques to Triple-A Reno on Friday.
One day after coming up from the minors, Jacques will return to Triple-A following the arrival of Thyago Vieira, who was claimed off waivers from Baltimore on Thursday. Jacques has allowed seven earned runs in just 6.1 innings since joining the Diamondbacks organization in April, and a return to Arizona isn't likely, barring a significant turnaround.

DL Hall RP | MIL
Brewers' DL Hall: Bullpen on tap
Hall (knee) is scheduled to throw a bullpen session Saturday, Curt Hogg of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports.
The 25-year-old visited Dr. Neal ElAttrache in Los Angeles for a second opinion on his sprained left knee Friday and a platelet-rich plasm injection was recommended, but the left-hander will instead follow the initial medical opinion and get back to throwing. Hall made two one-inning rehab appearances in the minors in late May before he tweaked his knee, and he'll likely require at least a few bullpen sessions before being cleared for game action again.

Robert Gasser SP | MIL
Brewers' Robert Gasser: Receiving third opinion
The second opinion Gasser received on his left elbow Friday conflicted with the first evaluation, so he's scheduled to visit a third doctor, Curt Hogg of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports.
According to Hogg, Dr. Neal ElAttrache recommended surgery after examining Gasser's elbow Friday, which was in contrast to the initial evaluation from earlier this week. There's apparently no new structural damage with the flexor strain, but the differing treatment recommendations will result in the 25-year-old getting a third medical opinion. Gasser is without a timeline for his return, but he appears to be facing an extended absence regardless of whether he undergoes surgery.

Matt Carpenter DH | STL
Cardinals' Matt Carpenter: Getting breather versus LHP
Carpenter isn't in the Cardinals' lineup for Friday's game against the Rockies, Jeff Jones of the Belleville News-Democrat reports.
The left-handed bat of Carpenter will be forced out of the lineup Friday as southpaw Austin Gomber prepares to toe the slab for Colorado. Jose Fermin will instead serve as St. Louis' designated hitter while batting seventh.

Mike Siani CF | BAL
Cardinals' Mike Siani: Sitting against lefty
Siani isn't in the Cardinals' lineup for Friday's game against the Rockies, Jeff Jones of the Belleville News-Democrat reports.
With the Cardinals set to face left-hander Austin Gomber, the lefty-hitting Siani will step out of the lineup Friday. Dylan Carlson will get the nod in center field instead and bat ninth.

Jarred Kelenic LF | TEX
Braves' Jarred Kelenic: Likely back Saturday
Kelenic (wrist) is likely to return to Atlanta's lineup Saturday versus the Nationals, Justin Toscano of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports.
Kelenic is missing a second straight start Friday after tweaking his right wrist on a diving catch Wednesday. However, he hit in the cage Friday and will be available to pinch hit, putting him on track to return to the starting nine Saturday.

Brandon Williamson SP | CIN
Reds' Brandon Williamson: Shut down from throwing
Williamson (shoulder) will be shut down from throwing for at least seven days, Charlie Goldsmith of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports.
The left-hander was pulled off his rehab assignment due to persistent issues with his shoulder, and he'll stop throwing entirely for at least a brief period while he and the club consider different options for how to proceed with his recovery. Williamson has yet to pitch for the Reds this season due to the shoulder sprain, and it's now questionable whether he'll be able to return ahead of the All-Star break.

Keegan Thompson RP | COL
Cubs' Keegan Thompson: Activated, staying at Triple-A
Thompson (illness) was activated from the 15-day injured list Friday and was optioned to Triple-A Iowa, Andy Martinez of Marquee Sports Network reports.
Thompson has been recovering from a viral illness since mid-May and was rehabbing with Triple-A Iowa this week. While he's over the illness, he'll stick around in the minors, where he started this season. He's appeared in three games for Iowa during his rehab stint, yielding one run on three hits with six Ks over 4.2 innings.

Pete Crow-Armstrong CF | CHC
Cubs' Pete Crow-Armstrong: Hits bench Friday
Crow-Armstrong is not in the lineup for Friday's game in Cincinnati.
Tough southpaw Nick Lodolo is starting for the Reds, so the lefty-hitting Crow-Armstrong will begin the contest on the bench. The rookie outfielder has started just two of the last five games. Cody Bellinger will be in center field for the Cubs on Friday.
