  • Reds' Tyler Stephenson: July power surge continues

Stephenson went 1-for-2 with two walks and a solo home run in Saturday's 5-4 loss to the Nationals.

Stephenson's third-inning homer was his 11th of the season and fifth in the last eight games. The catcher is batting .308 with a 1.152 OPS over the last 10 contests.

  • Phillies' Cristopher Sanchez: Gets little help in loss

Sanchez (7-5) took the loss Saturday as the Phillies were downed 4-1 by the Pirates, giving up two runs on eight hits over 5.2 innings. He struck out two without walking a batter.

The southpaw didn't pitch poorly, tossing 56 of 90 pitches for strikes as he fell just short of his 11th quality start of the season, but the Phillies' offense couldn't solve Luis Ortiz. Sanchez has allowed two runs or less in five of his last six starts, posting a 2.79 ERA, 0.96 WHIP and 28:5 K:BB in 38.2 innings over that stretch. He'll look for a better result in his next outing, which lines up to come at home next weekend against the Guardians.

  • Spencer Steer 1B | CIN

Reds' Spencer Steer: Delivers run, steals bag

Steer went 1-for-5 with an RBI and a stolen base in Saturday's 5-4 loss to Washington.

Steer delivered a runner in scoring position with a first-inning single to give the Reds an early 1-0 lead. The team's primary cleanup hitter, Steer has a .337/.405/.673 line with RISP and leads the Reds with 61 RBI. After reaching base, he put himself in scoring position with the steal, his 15th in 97 games. That's the same number of steals he had over 156 games in 2023.

  • Roddery Munoz RP | HOU

Marlins' Roddery Munoz: Stuck with tough loss

Munoz (1-5) took the loss Saturday as the Marlins fell 1-0 to the Mets, allowing one run on three hits and three walks over five innings. He struck out five.

The rookie right-hander tossed 44 of 74 pitches for strikes in one of his best big-league outings to date, but the Miami offense gave him no support at all. Munoz's control remains an issue -- he's issued multiple walks in six straight outings, stumbling to a 5.64 ERA, 1.58 WHIP and 20:17 K:BB through 30.1 innings over that stretch. The Marlins have little choice but to leave him in their injury-ravaged rotation however, and Munoz is scheduled to make his next start at home next week against the Orioles.

  • Edwin Diaz RP | LAD

Mets' Edwin Diaz: Nails down 11th save

Diaz struck out one in a perfect ninth inning Saturday to record his 11th save of the season in a 1-0 win over the Marlins.

He closed out the combined shutout on 12 pitches (nine strikes), with his fastball topping out at 98.5 mph. Diaz appears to be back in nearly peak form -- he hasn't given up a run in eight appearances since coming off the IL in mid-June, piling up six saves and two wins with a 0.78 WHIP and 8:3 K:BB over 7.2 innings during that stretch.

  • Luis Severino SP | ATH

Mets' Luis Severino: Blanks Fish for seventh win

Severino (7-3) picked up the win Saturday, allowing two hits and three walks over six scoreless innings in a 1-0 victory over the Marlins. He struck out seven.

The right-hander tossed 53 of 91 pitches for strikes to kick off the combined shutout, giving Severino his ninth quality start of the season. The 30-year-old has been the Mets' most reliable starter this season, lasting at least six innings in eight straight trips to the mound since the beginning of June while posting a 3.66 ERA, 1.18 WHIP and 34:13 K:BB in 51.2 innings over that stretch. Severino's next outing lines up to come at home next week against Atlanta.

  • Marcell Ozuna DH | PIT

Braves' Marcell Ozuna: Big power display against Cards

Ozuna went 2-for-4 with two solo home runs in the second game of Saturday's doubleheader split against the Cardinals.

After going 1-for-4 in the matinee, Ozuna piled up 855 feet worth of long balls off Sonny Gray in the nightcap, accounting for half of the four homers Atlanta slugged off the right-hander in a losing effort. Ozuna has hit safely in eight straight games, and through 62 plate appearances in July he's slashing .328/.355/.724 with seven home runs and 12 RBI. The 33-year-old needs to go yard twice more in 2024 to record the third 30-homer campaign of his career, and he's on pace to top the career-high 40 he launched just last season.

  • Kevin Ginkel RP | ARI

Diamondbacks' Kevin Ginkel: Earns hold in win

Ginkel did not allow a hit or walk over a scoreless inning to earn a hold in Saturday's 3-0 win over the Cubs.

Ginkel hurled a 1-2-3 sixth inning to claim his eighth hold. He entered earlier than normal and was the first of four relievers to throw a scoreless frame after starter Zac Gallen grinded through five scoreless innings on102 pitches. Following a rough stretch in May, Ginkel has been an effective arm; the right-hander has a 0.78 ERA and has allowed just two walks over his last 23 innings (22 appearances).

  • Eddie Rosario RF | MIL

Braves' Eddie Rosario: Goes yard in both ends of twin bill

Rosario went 3-for-7 with a walk, two home runs and three RBI across both ends of Saturday's doubleheader split with the Cardinals.

After taking Ryan Fernandez deep in the seventh inning of the matinee for a game-tying two-run blast, Rosario clubbed a solo shot off Sonny Gray in the sixth inning of the nightcap. It was the veteran outfielder's first homers and first RBI in nine games for Atlanta this season, and he's batting just .219 (7-for-32) since returning to the club. With Atlanta's front office rumored to be looking for outfield help at the trade deadline, Rosario may need to heat up quickly if he wants to hang onto a significant role with the team down the stretch.

  • Bryce Elder SP | ATL

Braves' Bryce Elder: Hit hard in spot start

Elder (1-4) took the loss in the second game of Saturday's doubleheader against the Cardinals, coughing up six runs on eight hits and a walk over five innings. He struck out nine.

The nine strikeouts were a season high for Elder, and his highest total since he fanned nine Pirates on Sept. 8 of last season, but Elder also served up homers to Nolan Gorman and Brendan Donovan in a 9-5 victory for the Cardinals. Elder is saddled with a 6.35 ERA, 1.64 WHIP and 33:14 K:BB through 39.2 innings over his eight big-league starts in 2024, and he's likely headed back to Triple-A Gwinnett following this outing.
